*Choose one as your individual choice, and know that when the “package” video is completed, you will be filming video clips with others in your same package area. Although more options may be listed, only 4-5 locations can be chosen for each area…depending on class size.

Thank you for your application for employment. We would like to hire you to promote our new vacation series called “Symbols of America” vacation packages! As you probably know, each state has places of historic importance, whether a famous person lived there, an important event happened there, or it’s just a natural wonder. There are so many beautiful sights to see in the old USA. Your job is to “Sell” a historical site vacation in one of our 50 states. You will need to research, and become an EXPERT about your vacation destination. Then, you will do an individual informational/persuasive video segment, and finally, if we like your work, you will get with others in your same “Full Package” to advertise your vacation destination in a final commercial.

Here are the Full Package options:*Choose one location from the table to make your individual info-mercial. Later, Full Package Groups will be determined by which location you chose. To get started, you receive additional direction pages.

Step 2 Internet Search Review & Researching Background information.

Do the Internet Search Review paper. (separate sheet). Make sure you answer the questions below, so that you have enough information. Put them in a Google apps presentation/ storyboard/outline. Don’t just list the information. USE IT to be persuasive. Discribe the great pictures you use. Remember, your main goal is to sell your destination as a great historic place to visit. (We will share this later to create your Vacation Package commercial.

*Remember that you also need the URL of every site you get information and pictures from!

Later, share your GoogleApps with your whole group to decide whose individual clip will go first, second, and so on. They are basically your “inside paragraphs”, and you will be adding the video intro and ending. Also, letting your group know what YOU are going to talk about may influence how they write up their individual clip…

Individual Work

Your individual travel destination videoEach person in the group will do a video “clip”, advertising their vacation destination (within the longer infomerical) with pictures and “information”. Items to include would be:

Map and location explained (maybe how to get there) Where is this place? The Who, What, Where, When, and Why of the “historic” place in pictures and

information about the area: Why should you go? What important event is related to it? What famous people are associated with it? When did important related events happen?

Cool feature that’s shouldn’t be missed while you are in the areaA slide that is a Paint picture you made of you on vacation

Make your information with a “travel agent” flare. Remember, you are trying to sell your place as a vacation destination. How would you promote or persuade????

Song and/or narration individual OR group…

(26)*Save 10+ relevant pictures to your fileserver folder, and insert them into MovieMaker. Set them for between 4-6 seconds apiece. Add transitions, pan and zoom for all, and any effects you want. *Separate notes sheet about how to do this in MovieMaker will be passed out.*Make sure you write down the author or URL name for the “Credits” page later. You must give credit for each picture/info you use. You will make a credit page at the end of the group video.*Use title for information and caption buttons to put information or captions with pictures. (The title button will give you a blank slide you can put before or after a picture. The caption button will put the text on the picture itself) * So, to review, you will need on your individual clip:

Now, you will need music and/or narration.

*You must choose a song/soundtrack from a CD/Music File/Internet Site that goes along with your video. See the “Places to get Music” page for that. If you want to “Up the Ante” on this project (meaning that if you are going for an A), see the page called “Recording Narration Segment”. This is a “higher level” knowledge that some of you are ready for, and others may find too difficult. With the “Recording Narration Segment”, you are using AUDACITY to first put in a

music/soundtrack, and then you are writing a script narration and recording it.

*For help with MovieMaker, see the “Managing Video Editing” or your notes sheet.

*Add the music/narration to a MovieMaker by going to “Add music”. Retime the pictures to go with the narration.

Page 5: My Academic Portfolio - Homevestedportfolio.weebly.com/uploads/4/6/8/6/46867639/... · Web viewmusic/soundtrack, and then you are writing a script narration and recording it. *For

*Add music at a place NOT at the beginning by going to “Add music”, and then “Add music at current point. Make sure you have your black line at the place you want the music to start.

Places to get music:

1. Go to the D:\DATA drive on your computer (inside “Computer” just like your fileserver folder). Open the folder called “Patriotic Song”. I’ve collected about 15 songs from my library there that you can use. Copy one to your folder.

2. CD. Buy a CD and bring it in. (Or you can use one of mine…see my helper’s desk) Put CD in DVD drive. Wait for Media Player to open (or open it yourself from the link in your task bar). Click the “See Library” box at the top right. That will open the ability to rip your CD. Choose the songs you want to rip. Then set the program to rip it to your fileserver by going to “Rip Settings”, then “Change”, and set it to go to your fileserver folder. Click “Apply” and “OK”. Then click “Rip” on the main library screen. It will make a folder in your fileserver folder with the music in it. You might want to copy it out of the folder.

3. Get the file from an IPOD or MP3 player. Bring the cord you use to transfer music, etc. on your computer from the device or vice versa. You cannot use IPOD touches here/most Iphones, because they typically just play a “playlist” from YOUR ITUNES account, and the files aren’t really on. You can copy your music at home though, onto a USB. Its just a copy/paste thing. You are looking for an MP3 file or a WMA file.

4. Resources on the Internet. Go to my “Resources” section, and click on link number 4. There are free and royalty free sources there. Incompetech, Freeplaymusic.com and sounddogs.com are especially easy. Either look for the “Preview” and “Download” buttons to hear and download a file to your computer, or right click on any sound sample, and try to find “Save target as”, and save it just like you would a picture. You might also like to set yourself up an account at “Sound Cloud” at home to use in both places.

REMEMBER: Sure, you can rip off music from just about anywhere. Do be aware, however, that you could be sued for using copyrighted music….It is against the law to use music without the creators’ permission. I will grant you that it is an easy thing to do….but just because it’s easy, doesn’t make it right. (Use music that is royalty free, duty free, or that you already have paid for…Free Use for Educational purposes…or that composers/creators give permission at their site….or any that is “public domain”)

Page 6: My Academic Portfolio - Homevestedportfolio.weebly.com/uploads/4/6/8/6/46867639/... · Web viewmusic/soundtrack, and then you are writing a script narration and recording it. *For

1. Add narration for your individual clip OR over sections of the whole video. Either way, it should be the last thing you do…either, the last thing before you finish your individual clip, or before you finish your group video.

*This version of MovieMaker has an option to narrate. First, just get a microphone and plug it in. Make sure it is recognized, and not muted. Check your volume.

2. Click the Home ribbon and choose “Narration”. A new screen will come up. Make sure the black line is where you want the narration to start.

3. On the new screen, click RECORD. The moviemaker will start, and you should speak your narration as clearly as possible.

4. When you are finished with the whole thing, or a section if you’d rather, save the narration to your fileserver folder. It will then show up as a gold line under your pictures and text.

*Note: If you do narration in sections, just make sure you name them uniquely, so that you can reinsert them if necessary.

Note2: If you use the dropdown by the “Record Narration”, you can also insert sound effects on the narrations level…Then you can still have music too!

1. Once you have your segment just the way you want it, save it one last time “as a project”.

2. Then you are going to “save as movie” and choose “to computer”.

3. Name it something short and unique.

4. When you do this, you will see that it is compressing itself into a wmv file. This is WINDOW MEDIA VIDEO, and will be just one file that is GREAT for playing on Windows media player. You will notice that you won’t need to keep track of the separate pictures and videos and music anymore.

5. Wait for it to finish, and locate it in your folders6. Save that movie on the USB that I will provide for your group. You are now to the point where you must get all of your group’s videos on one computer, along with your introduction and conclusion. (or move to group members computer to view)*To save on USB, put it in one of the slots on the front of computer. Wait for dialog box that says “Open to view files and folders” Open it. Copy your movie in your fileserver folder. Paste it to the “removable drive” or “lexar”. Don’t forget to “safely remove” by clicking in the task tray icon for the removable drive.

Group Decisions

Travel Title & Intro List all Members of the Group Collaboration, their travel destinations, and main responsibility. ALL WRITE. (1)Actors 2)Camera)Sound/narration 4)Director/set 3:

What will the title of your Travel video be? Come up with at least 2 names. Pick the one your group likes best. You can use my “heading” as one, but choose another also. Example-“Surfing the Coastlines”.

Name #1: ___________________________________________________Name #2: ___________________________________________________

*Now, write a Storyboard/script for an introduction that some in your group will film, and the others will be in to introduce your destinations. Use back of sheet.*Setting/Location: __________________*Props?: ______________________

*Script: Example- “Sitting tiredly at a table”….

Person 1: Man, am I tired! I sure could use a vacation. Person2: Yes, me too…but I’m not sure where I’d like to go.Person 3: Well, if I had the chance, I’d go to ___________Peron 1: Let’s look at some options….OK….

Or: “Professional looking group”…Welcome to the __________Travel agency, where _____________. We have vacations for all pocketbooks. Please join us on adventures to _________.

Or: “Are you a wonderful, but weird person? Are you looking for a Weird and Wonderful place to visit? Greenwood Travel Agency has it all, from _______ to ______________.

*Use materials from the individual vacation videos you made for the middle. Add narration throughout. You might add an intro clip in the middle?

Page 9: My Academic Portfolio - Homevestedportfolio.weebly.com/uploads/4/6/8/6/46867639/... · Web viewmusic/soundtrack, and then you are writing a script narration and recording it. *For

How will you as a group sum up your vacation choices. Write the script for it. Did you choose one place as the best? Did you argue about each of them being the best (like the southern states do in that BP travel commercial?) Whichever way you go, you should end with something like “Wherever you go, use Greenwood Travel Agency as your guide!” or “Here’s _______, ___________, and ______, signing off for now. Happy traveling!!”

You could also stress your “group theme” of the vacation with a witticism or plea to go there.

(Creativity is appreciated. )

*Remember when filming, you should start before you actually want film footage, and keep filming a few seconds AFTER as well. You can always split those bad parts out. Film the same thing multiple times, and you can splice them together. You can even keep the camera rolling while you act out the parts more than once.

After you film your intro and conclusion, edit out any bad parts, and add the segments to the beginning and end of your video. Use the “video tools” “split” with the black line showing where you want the split to happen. Go ahead and delete any bad parts…or parts you don’t want. Make sure all the individual clips are saved and put into the middle part.

Take your “group video”, and save it as a project, then “Save movie” and choose the “to computer” option. It will compress/render (cook) the video again, into a wmv file that you can play in Media Player. Use the USB to put a copy of the video on each person’s fileserver folder. Your video will be “judged” for its overall technical and persuasive effectiveness.
