The little ones were sedated after the surgery and Presidents of both Clubs (Lion Lawi and Lion Gopal) got the chance to visit them in the recovery wards together with Lion Nargis, the Heart Babies Convener for District 411A, and Mike Belliere the founder of MEAK (Medical and Educational Aid to Kenya). We thank our donors and well-wishers for the kind donations that made these surgeries possible. At the cost of kshs 35,000/- per child, the 2 clubs paid a total of kshs 770,000/- from the Joint Heart Babies account that they have set-up which catered for the 22 children, for the surgeries conducted between 8th and 16th November 2013. for 22 children at Kenyatta National Hospital. The Lions Club of Nairobi Runda held its Induction Night and Board Installation on 5th October, 2013 where 8-New Lions were welcomed to the Club as Lions. Present to preside was PDG Manilal Dodhia alongside our Zone Chair Hirji Vekaria.

Lions Club of Nairobi Runda in conjunction with the law firm of Munyithya, Mutugi, Umara & Muzna Company donated sanitary towels for 15 girls together with a few goodies to celebrate the festive season at a girls Home in Kanamai.

The Lions Club of Nairobi Runda undertook the Club Excellence Patch (CEP) program which was facilitated by PDG Himat Dodhia and received the Banner Patch from Lions International. 14 out of 16 Members participated in the CEP making the Total Club participation 88%.

The Club Excellence Process highlighted the following areas of growth for LCN Runda: • Finding ways to involve the children and families of

members;

• Encouraging each member to take a leadership role at some point during their membership

The Club Excellence Process highlighted the following areas that the Club is doing exceedingly well:• Offering opportunities for individual members to receive

awards for a job well done.• Infusing a sense of formality and decorum.• Providing networking opportunities that can help mem-

bers with career(s)/business.

11,000 trees planted for Kenya’s 50th birthday at a dedicated afforestation region near Mount

Kenya. Representing the District were PDG Manilal Dodhia, ZC Hirji Vekaria, Club President Lawi Sultan, Club President Ranjit Sagoo, Lion Kalwant Sagoo and Lion Saqib Malik from the Lions Club of Nairobi Runda, Lions Club of Nairobi Peponi, Lions Club of Nairobi Greater, Lions Club of Nyeri and Lions Club of Mombasa Pwani together with the Aga Khan Development Network and Serena Hotels undertook a Tree

Planting activity around Mount Kenya in conjunction with Community members from Hombe and school age youth to plant 11,000 Trees over 2-days to the re-afforestation program around the largest Mountain in Kenya (Mount Kenya). A great activity planned and undertaken in the shortest possible time. We’re planning on hitting our 10 million mark from 2010-2014

Also part of the Tree Planting Mission were the following: David Boyer, Sam Pickens, Fauzia, Philip Emase all from AKDN. We were also joined by the following from the Media: Christine Musa (Media Max), Samson Ndege (KTN), Agatha Ngotho (The Star), Gardy Chacha (The Standard) and Rupi Mangat (Nation), Mr. Bjorgvinsson (Swiss TV).
