The MVH 90 and MVH 200 devices are similar equipments, but withdifferent working ranges; please see the technical specifications onpage 7.

There are two versions of each type available:• MVH 90E/MVH 200E

These testers use the MEA 200 velocity-proportional pickup, which has an almost linear characteristic curve up to 10 000 Hzand receives the radial vibration of the bearing through its station-ary outer ring. The pickup tip touches the outer ring.Advantage: robust pickup, favourable price

    • MVH 90EL/MVH 200ELIn this version the SKF Laser Vibrometer MSL-7000 picks-up thenoise signal of the bearing in a contactless manner. This is veryuseful if a special bearing with non-symmetrical bearing outerring with restricted sensor contact area should need to be tested. The SKF Laser Vibrometer combines a robust, integrated, single-box design with the clear advantages of non-contact, laser-basedvibration measurement.Advantage: contactless measurement, easy handling, and no wear

or damage by wrong sensor positioning.

The MVH equipment can be described as follows:• Has an extremely precise sliding-bearing spindle, which drives the

inner ring of the bearing under test.

    • Incorporates a pneumatic axial loading unit with adjustable testload. A radial loading unit is optionally available.

    • A two-hand operation starts the automatic test cycle: then axialloading unit applies an axial load to the outer ring and moves thebearing against the testing spindle, and the pickup is applied to thestationary bearing outer ring. The bearing noise is measured(using a freely programmable measuring time), analysed and thendisplayed. Once the testing is completed, the loading unit returnsto its initial position and the machine is ready for the next testcycle, etc.

    • Resetting for another type of bearing can be done quickly and sim-ply. The arbor on the spindle and the loading tool of the axial load-ing unit need to be exchanged and the pickup is to be positionedagainst the new bearing. If using the MSL-7000, then only thehorizontal position and the focus must be adjusted.

    • The pickups receive the radial vibration of the bearing through itsstationary outer ring.

    • The vibration analysis is performed by the CMME 7000 measuringelectronics. Normally the three standard frequency bands areevaluated. Within these bands the tolerance limits are freely pro-

grammable and/or are available after selecting the appropriatebearing type. Evaluation criteria according to customer’s require-ments (i.e. specific spectrum masks) are possible. Frequency spec-trum and detailed analysis of the spectrum is also used to deter-mine the bearing vibration locations and their causes.

Functional principle• During measurement, the inner ring of the bearing is rotated at a

constant set speed.• An axial load is applied to the outer ring of the bearing by a spe-

cially designed tool.• The MEA 200 pickup (MVH 90E/200E) or the SKF Laser Vibrom-

eter MSL-7000 (MVH 90EL/200EL) converts the radial vibrationof the bearing into a velocity proportional electrical signal.

    • The MEA 200 signal is amplified and digitalized using a high-reso-lution analogue-to-digital converter for evaluation in our measur-ing computer CMME 7000.

    • The digital MSL-7000 laser signal is transferred via S/P-DIF for-mat to the miniStreamer board in the CMME 7000.

    • The SKF measuring electronics with the SKF evaluation softwaregives much more information in the narrow-band spectrum thanthe broad-band parameters L, M and H. These results can beshown in µm/s or Anderon units.

    • Different signal frequencies corresponding to a specific bearingcomponent (e.g. inner ring, outer ring, or rolling elements) can bemeasured and analyzed using time domain, enveloping tech-niques, narrow-band frequency analyses, Fourier transformationsand spectrum masks, together with a special digital filtering tech-nique FPM.

    • The result identifies one or more possible defect types such as:contaminated components, cage noise, or bearing componentform deviations.

    • Although relatively small damages can perhaps not be observed inany of the three vibration bands, they can be detected using theSKF peak analysis.

    • The vibration measurement tolerances of various bearing typesare stored in the computer and all measurement data are com-pared with these tolerances. If the measurement data are withinthe tolerances, then the bearing continues it’s testing regime with-in the machine. However, if the measurement data are outside thetolerances, then the screen shows a reject message.
