Description
Artist: Lena Karpinsky Title of work: Music of the Ocean Materials used: Oil Painting on Canvas What’s seen in the Picture: Many brush marks from
the paint brush, The Lines flow over each other and “break” the shape of the cello and piano and many assorted instruments.
Subject: Instrumental symphony along with piano. Landscape or Portrait: Landscape.
AnalysisFore Ground, Mid-Ground, Back Ground: Tan colored ground, Light colored mid ground, Maroon colored Back ground.
Arrangement: As part of the artists style she intentionally paint one image across multiple canvases; Main subject matter on the center canvas.
Color arrangement: Main subject has many bright shades of orange and reds with hints of brown
Shape arrangement: Cello in the middle canvas, Piano stretches across all canvases, Dark sting instruments on left canvas.
Leading Lines: Top right of the Cello, Piano.
Contrast: left canvas has dark colors and the mid to right canvas is light shades or orange and reds.
Pattern: Piano is layered with different colored keys and sizes.
Space/Perspective: It takes the edge of the Cello into its own place allowing you to create its own shape.
Special techniques: Its on 3 different canvases; Brush Marks and the style of the Picture.
Interpretation
Relationship: The flow of the instruments and the title relate because it flows like the ocean.
First areas notice: The Cello and how it flows and the 3 canvases.
Story: the story is the symphony it creates, literally and figuratively.
Feeling: It makes warm because of the color contrast.
Evaluation
I like all the contrast on the 3 canvases. I think the artist was mildly successful
because of the prices of her other art compared to this art work.
I really enjoyed the idea of the 3 canvases and the way she painted all the pictures on them.
