Introduction to Survey• I created a survey using survey monkey

• The survey has been shared with other AS Media students at York College

• The survey includes ten questions, which are about music magazines and music in general

• I created this survey to find out what kind of features people would like to see in a music magazine. This helps me decide what to include in my magazine

• However, the results of the survey are biased, because it has only been answered by media students who are 16-18 years old

• The survey will only help me create my music magazine if I decide to aim it at 16-18 year olds

• The survey will not help me create my magazine if I decide to aim my music magazine at a different age group (for example 40-50 year olds)

• I will be analysing the results of the survey

Question 1 asks “what is your gender?”.

9 people answered this question. 3 people said that they are male, and 6 people said that they are female.

The results for this question will help me analyse the later questions in the survey, because I will be able to see if people of the same gender like similar artists, genres, and music magazines.

Question 2 asks “how old are you?”.

9 people answered this question. 2 people said they are 16 years old, 6 people said they are 17 years old, and 1 person said they are 18 years old.

The results for this question will help me analyse the later questions in the survey, because I will be able to see if people of the same age like similar artists, genres, and music magazines.

This question asks “how often do you listen to music?”.

9 people answered this question. Every one of these 9 people said that they listen to music at least once every day.

This tells me that all of these people are interested in music and listen to it daily.

Question 4 asks “what is your favourite genre of music?”.

9 people answered this question. 2 people said they liked rock music, 2 people said they liked hip hop music, 3 people said that they did not have a favourite genre of music, and 1 person said they liked a different genre of music.

The results for this question will help me analyse the later questions in the survey, because I will be able to see if people who like similar genres of music like similar music magazines.

Question 5 asks “how many music magazines do you buy?”.

9 people answered this question. 3 people said that they buy one music magazine every year, and 6 people said they do not buy music magazines.

Question 6 asks “what is your favourite music magazine?”.

9 people answered this question. 1 person said they like Kerrang, 2 people said they like Q, 1 person said they like Classic Rock, 1 person said they like Uncut, 2 people said that they like NME, and 2 people said that they do not buy music magazines.

The results for this question show me that I should make my music magazine similar to ‘Q’ or ‘NME’. This is because these magazines are the favourites of the most people who answered the question.

Question 7 asks “who is your favourite music artist or band?”

8 people answered this question. Every answer for this question was different. I have listed the answers in the text box to the left.

The answers to this question will help me create my music magazine, because they give me an idea of which artists and bands to include in my music magazine. I will probably include some of these artists.

5 people said that they would spend £1 to £5.

3 people said that they would spend £6 to £10.

1 person said that they would spend £11 to £15.

The answers to this question help me decide how expensive my music magazine should be. If I was going to sell my music magazine, I would probably make it cost from £1 to £5. This is because most of the people who answered this question said that they would spend this much money on a music magazine.

Question 9 asks “which of the following magazines would you rather buy?”.

9 people answered this question. 4 people said that they would buy a music magazine that only focuses on one genre of music. 5 people said that they would buy a music magazine that focuses on more than one genre of music.

The answers to this question tell me that I should focus on more than one genre in my music magazine. This is because more people said that they would buy a magazine that focuses on more than one genre of music.

Question 10 asks “do you play any musical instruments?”.

7 people answered this question. 3 people said they did play musical instruments. 4 people said that they did not play musical instruments.

The answers to this question help me create my music magazine. If lots of people say that they play musical instruments, I could include competitions to win instruments, and information about different instruments. However, I will not be including any of this in my magazine, because most people who answered the question said that they did not play musical instruments.
