First DraftsOriginally started creating a contents page using a red diagonal line which went across

the page separating 6 different sections coloured differently. I chose to reject this idea

and start again because I did not think that it looked conventional or clear for the reader

to understand. After this attempt I tried a more conventional layout for a contents page. I

divided the page into two columns one side with a red background, one side with a

picture as a background. I faded the picture behind the text to make the text stand out

and to soften the image.

Second Draft

I have removed the red box

because I felt that it looked harsh

next to the faded image. I put in

red boxes to separate the

heading ‘contents’ from the main

body of the page. I have left a

gap down the right hand side of

the page for either an editor’s

letter or images which will

correspond to the articles

mentioned.

Third Draft

I have inserted a ‘puzzle’ effect

(which can be found on

Photoshop) as a background on

the right hand side. I think this is

in keeping with the fun aspect of

my music magazine and

improved the overall look of the

page. I faded the ‘puzzle’ effect

to complement the image and so

that any text I put over the top

will be clearly visible. I inserted

more red boxes to separate the

sections of the contents page. I

think this makes the page appear

quite ‘boxy’ which helps it to look

conventional. In addition, I

inserted pictures which

correspond to the articles

mentioned which continues the

theme of the magazine.

Final Draft

Finally, I finished the table of

contents and wrote an editor’s

letter. This is a common feature

found on a contents page of any

magazine. I think these additions

have improved the overall look of

the contents page and made it

more effective as a contents

page.
