If you are thumbing through this brochure, I suspect you find music to be an integral part of life’s most profound experiences. Perhaps a Duke Ellington song transports you to the first dance you shared with the person who became your spouse of forty years; perhaps a Bach concerto evokes the grief, still fresh after all this time, over the loss of a family member; or perhaps the soaring voices of a Byrd choral anthem rekindle that call you have often felt to a deeper walk with God and a life of service. Whatever role music plays in your life, we hope you will find throughout Christ Church Cathedral’s 2015-16 season experiences that enrich your journey.
This year I am particularly pleased to announce that the Cincinnati Men’s Chorus under the direction of Casey J. Hayes will be joining the cathedral family as an ensemble-in-residence. Between the performances offered by CMC and those offered by Collegium Cincinnati, our other ensemble-in-residence, the 2015-16 concert season is richer than ever. In fact, there are more than fifteen concerts to choose from—not counting the weekly Music Live at Lunch series!
I look forward to seeing you at the cathedral and hearing what music events you find meaningful. Your input is important to us and informs how we develop each succeeding season.
With warmest wishes,
Stephan CasurellaDirector of MusicChrist Church Cathedral

About Collegium Cincinnati
Collegium Cincinnati is one of the most vibrant up-and-coming musical organizations serving the Greater Cincinnati area. The Collegium, as it is known, is dedicated to blowing the dust off the great repertoire, creating performances that are inspirational and exciting. One week might find the group performing Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos in a cozy bourbon bar, the next week presenting Telemann’s enigmatic Brockes Passion in one of the beautiful religious spaces in Cincinnati.
Collegium Cincinnati is a historically-informed ensemble. What that means is that we are dedicated to presenting music the way that the composer intended it. If it was meant to be heard in a living room, that’s where we will perform it.
Baroque music is the specialty of the Collegium, but it doesn’t end there. The Collegium has premiered contemporary works and performed music by a wide variety of composers. Collegium Cincinnati’s musicians are among the finest in the region.

Christ Church Cathedral Choir
The Christ Church Cathedral Choir is an ensemble of auditioned professional and volunteer choristers who sing at weekly Sunday morning services, monthly services of Evensong, and other major liturgical observances in the church year. The choir offers a range of choral literature from the Anglican cathedral tradition, the folk tradition of African-Americans, newly written works, and idioms from other cultures. The choir is directed by Stephan Casurella.
Auditions: Choir auditions are held every summer.
High School Choral Scholars
The cathedral’s choral scholars are high school students who participate in all the duties of the cathedral choir as apprentices. They are trained in the art of fine choral singing and of performing at a professional level. They sing a wide range of repertoire, such as works by Tallis, Brahms, and Howells, as well as spirituals and music of other cultures. They are compensated with a monthly stipend throughout the academic year.
Auditions: To apply for a choral scholar position, students must complete an application packet before being invited to audition. Auditions are held every summer.
Christ Church Singers
This all-volunteer ensemble is designed for those who love to sing but are not able to commit to the Cathedral Choir’s rehearsal and performance schedule. Singers meet for a single rehearsal and service several times throughout the season.
Cathedral Choir of Children and Youth
The Cathedral Choir of Children and Youth (CCCY) is a city-wide choir program that fosters a lifelong enjoyment and appreciation of music through the singing of sacred choral works. The program, which is based on the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) Voice for Life curriculum, is open to children as young as grade two. No prior music experience is required. Choristers have the opportunity to develop music skills, make new friends, and explore faith. Directed by Rafael Soares, the choir performs once a month at Christ Church Cathedral and other churches and venues throughout Greater Cincinnati. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings, beginning September 9. While choristers are encouraged to join choir at the beginning of the season, interested young people may be accepted at other times during the year.

Sundays | 6:00 p.m.Shifrah is candlelight, contemplation, and song in the heart of downtown Cincinnati. It is ancient tradition brought to fresh life in and for this time and this place. It is local musicians and artists, priests and the community, offering their gifts, gathering each week to pray, to worship, to enter into silence, and to be.
Shifrah is silence and space opened up for the movement of the Spirit. It is new life being born from mysterious power.
