The Grammy Awards 2010• The 52nd Grammy Awards took place on the

31st on January 2010 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Performers included Lady gaga and Elton john, Green Day, Pink, Beyonce and a 3D tribute to Michael Jackson.

• Beyonce picked up a female record of 6 Grammys for ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Best Female Pop Vocal Performance’, ‘Best Female R&B Vocal Performance’, ‘Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance’, ‘Best R&B Song' and ‘Best Contemporary R&B Album’. Beyonce is signed to the record label Columbia Records.

• Taylor Swift won 4. She’s signed with Big Machine Records.

• Lady Gaga( signed to Universal Music Group ) picked up 2 Awards.

• Kings of Leon picked up 3 awards including ‘Record of the year’ for the song ‘Use Somebody’.

• The Black Eyed Peas and Jay Z also won 3 awards.

UK Music Awards •The main music awards in the UK is the Brit Awards. Performers last year included Coldplay, Duffy, Kinds Of Leon and U2. The winners included Katy Perry, Kanye West, Duffy, Girls Aloud, Kings of Leon and Paul Weller.

•The MOBO (Music of Black Origin ) awards is held annually to recognise artists of any race of nationality performing music. The 2009 Awards were dominated by Beyonce, N-Dubz and JLS all winning 2 awards.

• The Barclaycard Mercury Prize is an annual music prize awarded for the best album from the United Kingdom or Ireland. Nominations are chosen by a selected panel of musicians, music executives, journalists and other figures in the music industry in the UK and Ireland. The last few years winners include Speech Debelle, Elbow and the Klaxons.

•The Kerrang Awards is an award ceremony taken place each year run by the popular rock magazine Kerrang. Last years awards had winners including Slipknot, The prodigy, Linkin Park and Metallica.
