Class Information
Perhaps the most successful music and film collabora-tions were with Alfred Hitchcock. While his films with composer Bernard Herrmann are the most famous, Hitchcock also worked well with composers Milkos Rozsa, Frank Skinner, Dmitri Tiomkin, Roby Webb, and Franz Waxman. In these films, the music was more than just a soundtrack. The score created mood and ambiance and greatly added to each film’s style and impact. Working together, even sounds like footsteps, engines and water became part of the score. Among the films to be discussed and illustrated with excerpts will be Spellbound, Strangers on a Train, Rear Window, Notorious, Vertigo, North by Northwest and Psycho. Friday, October 5, 2:00-3:30pm 1940’s - Spellbound and Notorious Friday, October 12, 2:00-3:30pm 1950’s - Strangers on a Train and The Man Who Knew Too Much Friday, October 19, 2:00-3:30pm 1950’s - Dial M for Murder, Rear Window and Vertigo Friday, October 26, 2:00-3:30pm Bernard Herrmann Masterpieces - North by Northwest and Psycho .
