Create your own costume for Burning Man with your old clothes. Use battery-operated electroluminescent wire and a buttoneer to embellish clothing so it glows in the dark. GESTURE DRAWING: HORSESSaturday, July 16 / 10 am – 2 pm

Employing watercolor, pastel and charcoal, students will be guided in capturing the form of the horse after a digital presentation of her own work and a demonstration on gesture drawing. Students will work from photographs to capture the movement of horses and will be taught wet-on-wet watercolor application as well as how to layer charcoal and pastel on top of a watercolor drawing to create texture and depth. Held at Toni Lowden’s Reno studio, learn the basics of tapestry warping and weaving on a small portable loom. Complete a basic tapestry sampler -- samplers acquaint the weaver with basic techniques before weaving a small tapestry. This class will setup a frame loom, discuss options for warp and weft materials, spacing, color, and grist. Then, complete small sections using various techniques: joining colors, creating simple shapes, and making di�erent angles using interlock and vertical dovetail. In this weekend workshop, learn how to create a custom look for car or motorcycle exteriors using freehand pin striping. Learn stroke technique that uses pin striping, lettering, and script brushes along with enamel paint and gold/silver leafing on aluminum sheets. Get tips on enhancing your design and layout and create scrolling designs. A $60 materials fee is due to the instructor the first day of the class – no additional materials are required. This class is designed for those who travel and want to learn how to sketch quickly using watercolor pencils. First, the class will learn about color and basic watercolor pencil techniques. Then, students will have their choice of three di�erent settings (two still lifes and your own photo reference) to work from. Instructor demonstrations will be given on composition, working from di�erent settings, and do’s and don’ts. Your practice in the studio will prepare you for working in the field while traveling. In this six week course, learn intensive airbrush techniques through step-by-step demonstrations to create stylized or realistic artwork to enhance car exteriors, signs, and much more. Explore equipment, materials, paints, freehand application, color gradation, and rendering texture. Former students have the option to sign up for the last four weeks in order to learn advanced techniques. A compressor, airbrushes, and paints will be supplied at no cost to students for use in the classroom. Enrollment is limited to eight students. Learn the art of making forms in clay to create your own decorative or functional pottery. This six-week course will cover hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Students will be introduced to various finishing techniques such as decorating, stamping, painting, and staining of clay in addition to glazing and learning about the clay firing process. CANCELLATION POLICYStudents needing to withdraw from a class after registering may receive a tuition refund less a $5 administrative fee if the Museum is notified five business days before the first session of class. No refunds thereafter.
