At the end of last term the Boys and Girls State Volleyball Carnivals were conducted in Orange and Minto respectively. Tyler Allen and Tom Foster made the boys team for Riverina. After the three days of hard fought competition the boys team ended up 8 th in the state. A further honour was added with Tom Foster receiving the coach’s award for all his hard work during the tournament. Em Banks, Ellie Barker, Tiffany Foster, Katie Hearne, Emma James and Tennille Stephens were all representing the Riverina at Minto. The team played tough games against some very skilful teams over three days. After nine games the girls ended up 4 th in the state. They won games despite being 10 points down in a hot and humid stadium with composure and poise. Katie Hearne received a further honour of the coach’s award for her tireless work on court and skills as a veteran blocker. The girls were noted for their sportsmanship and professionalism. I was particularly proud of everything they did on and off the court. I am impressed with all the players and look on this as a highlight of my career as a volleyball coach. PRINCIPAL’S REPOR T

A warm welcome back to all our students, parents, and staff to Term 2. We certainly can’t complain about the weather over the holidays. This term is only nine weeks in length and is already shaping up to be an extremely busy one for our staff and students.

Staffing Changes With the transfer of Mr Northey to Moruya High School Mrs Knight-Gregson will be in the role of relieving Head Teacher English/HSIE for the rest of the year. We also welcome to the school Mr Matthew Herbert, who will be joining the English staff for the remainder of 2014.

National Partnership Initiatives Other staff changes will be operating in Terms 2 and 3 this year. As one of the schools participating in the National Schools Partnership, we are implementing a number of projects to enhance our curriculum, teaching and learning outcomes, and welfare strategies and programs.

We are increasing the number of Deputy Principals in the school to two. Our Science Head Teacher, Mr Jankovics, will be in the role of the second Deputy Principal.

Mr Ronayne will deal with Deputy Principal issues for students in Years 9, 10 and 12 while Mr Jankovics will deal with Deputy Principal issues for students in Years 7, 8, and 11.

With two Deputy Principals operating the creation of extra time will enable Mr Ronayne to focus on working with Head Teachers and staff in developing our curriculum and focusing on Quality Teaching and Learning strategies and outcomes.

Mr Ronayne and Mr Jankovics will also do preliminary work for the school to undertake a review of student welfare policies and initiatives in Term 4 2014 and in 2015.

This project is not a new initiative, as it was planned to be undertaken in 2013. The departure of the then Principal, Mr Cochrane, and the interval of some months before my arrival led to the project being postponed until now.

Mrs Middleton will be in the Relieving Head Teacher Science position for Terms 2 and 3, replacing Mr Jankovics.

School Happenings Last Term: Our athletics carnival was a great success in the last week of term. Congratulations to all our students on their participation, and to the staff for their work in officiating during the day. A special thanks to Ms Petherbridge for her organisation of the carnival Well done to our Farm club Cattle Paraders at the Royal Easter Show. They represented their school extremely well in competing against paraders from across the state. Special congratulations must go to Toby Haydon who took out the prestigious Champion School Parader Award.
