Martin del Potro can all take a step closerto securing one of the remainingqualification berths at Flushing Meadows,starting on August 31.

Murray, who will seek his first grandslam crown at the Open, is also well awareof the bigger picture, and he believes hecould be battling Federer for the worldnumber one spot when the players take tothe court at The O2.

Andy Murray is hoping to end the seasonon top of the world after booking hisplace at the Barclays ATP World TourFinals.

Following a superb summer in which hehas gone close at Wimbledon andprospered on the American hard courts,Murray has become the third player toqualify for the prestigious end-of-yearfinale at The O2 in London.

The Scot, 22, has enjoyed the bestseason of his career so far, winning fivetitles - including the Rogers Cup inMontreal earlier this month. He alsoreached the semi-finals of the CincinnatiMasters last week.

That was enough to confirm his recentrise to number two in the South AfricanAirways 2009 ATP Rankings, and book hisplace at The O2 showpiece.

“It's great [to qualify]. Obviously with itbeing in the UK this year, it's big for me,” hesaid. “I think qualifying is a goal for all theplayers. I think it shows you've had a verysolid year and I look forward to playing."

World number one Roger Federer andAustralian Open champion Rafael Nadalhad already qualified for the eight-manevent, which takes place from November22-29.

And they could soon be joined by a hostof other contenders as the US Openapproaches.
