FlexiBuzz If you have not done so already, please ensure you update your FlexiBuzz selections for 2018 to include the Whole School and also make sure you include your child’s new Year Level and Home Group so that you do not miss out on important updates that are relevant to your child.

Sentral Parent Portal App Flexibuzz will be fazed out in June of this year and all communications will be sent out primarily through the Sentral

Parent Portal App. Using the Sentral App gives the school the ability to communicate information to each year level,

small groups or individual families, at the school's discretion. It allows for private messaging between parents, students

and teachers. Parents will have the ability to report future absences and notify the school of

absences and further down the track, even book parent/teacher meeting times. Please ensure

you have the Sentral App on your phone, device or computer and have created login details.

Recently M16 and M18 have been

upleveling some sentences to make

them more engaging and interesting.

We have been adding excellent

vocabulary, connectives, figurative

language and more. After we are given

some ‘sick sentences’ we discuss what

we might change and then edit them

to make them more exciting. After we

have edited these we are using them as

an introduction to our narrative writing.

Here are some examples of the sick

sentences and our incredible editing

skills including the picture prompt we

used;

Sean lived underwater. Lots of fish swam around

him. The water was blue. The water clear. He

was alone.

Kiana B. – I discovered the fifty year old man, Sean lived in an underwater world in the ocean. Many bright,

colourful fish zoomed by him. However the water was as blue as a whale and the water was as clear as

crystal. He was all alone in a dark gloomy place…

Elodie R. – Sean sighed “Ehhh… I wish there was never a flood”. When Sean was little he lost his parents in a

flood. Every evening he would see new types of fish swim past which he counted in his journal. “Every day the

water gets lower but becomes a lighter teal. I miss my parents every second of the day. I talk to seals

because they’re my only friends.”

Marco P. – Plop, the old man named Sean got shrunk and put into a fish bowl while being put into the sea

that was as deep as the land at the core of the Earth. Before he could see where he was, a small orange fish

swam into the bowl with plenty of other fish. Although he was stuck in a fish bowl he’s never realised how nice

the ocean was with all the bright blue water. When he looked around he could see people swimming and

tried to yell for help because of how clear the water was. After a while Sean was feeling hungry and really

alone. He was thinking how his family would be worried. “I have to find a way out of here” he thought.

Ocean G. – Sean lived under really cold water with lots of different sized and colourful fish. Sometime whales

and sharks would come around and he would get really scared but he was beginning to get used to it. The

water always shined when the sun came through, it was a beautiful light blue. The water was as clear as glass

after it had been wiped. The only bad thing was that he was alone every night, he wished for a family and

hoped one night his wish would come true.

Tom O. – Sean adapted under the Atlantic Ocean. Some outstandingly massive fish and sharks zoomed

around the comical looking fish tank. Although the water was shimmering, it was as blue as the sky. The water

was clearer than glass and all the sharks and fish fed him each day.

Alexys T – In the peaceful ocean Sean lives under the water. Lots of fish lived around his unusual home. The

water was blue and was as clear as glass. He was sad and alone.

In Term 2, the Middle school will be focusing on Physical Science,

investigating how heat can be produced in different ways and how it can

be transferred from one object to another.

Students will be conducting a variety of hands on experiments,

investigating how substances heat up, boil and melt. We will also be

investigating the change of temperature affecting how heat can be

gained or lost and how this affects us eg; what clothing we wear etc.

The Senior school will also be focusing on Physical Science, investigating

how circuits work, what produces electricity and how energy can be

transferred to another place and then transformed into another form of

energy. Students will be exploring and creating simple circuits using

batteries, LEDs, adhesive copper tape, play doh and felt. They will also be

investigating how light switches work.

Faces, Edges, Corners!

J5 and J6 love learning and working together and we have

been investigating 3D shapes. We have been learning about

spheres, pyramids, cylinders, rectangular and triangular prisms

and cubes. We can name, draw and describe some of the

features of 3D shapes too. 3D shapes are all around us in the real

world and we had fun finding them. We also constructed 3D

shapes which was very challenging! Here are some thoughts

from people in our grade.

Cubes are the shape of lots of presents – Lilly J6

Cones are my favourite because I love ice cream cones! – Isaiah J6

Soccer balls are spheres. I love playing soccer. – Corben J6

I love square based pyramids. One day I would like to go and see them in Egypt – Emily J6

I see cones where there are lots of roadworks happening. – Gideon J5

Cylinders are used for lots of things like drink cans, chip cans like Pringles and glue sticks

– Indy J5

I just love triangular prisms. They have 5 faces – Zade J5

The shape of a cone is like a birthday hat and that makes me happy – Ruby J5

SCHOOL DISCO Thank you to all the families who supported the KPG organised Disco’s last Friday. Students had a fun filled time; both the juniors in the afternoon and Middles & Seniors in the evening. A super fundraising effort with approximately $1700 raised to go towards a new bike shed! Thank you for your support. Thank you to the KPG for their organisation and to our wonderful helpers on the night. We look to our next one in term 3.

COLE wins House Cross Country !

On Thursday 19th April all students from Years 3 - 6 walked to Robinsons Reserve for the Kingsley Park House Cross Country.

Students showed great team spirit by cheering and encouraging all competitors when they came to the finish line. This

year to increase team spirt and support for their house, House Captains led their teams in chants for extra points. At the

end of the event Cole House was the winning team for the first time in 5 years. Well done to all students who completed

the event, it is great to see students challenging themselves to do the best they can.

The first 10 students from age groups 10, 11 and 12/13 have the opportunity to represent Kingsley Park Primary at the

District Cross Country at Flinders College Carrum Downs on Friday 25th May. These students have the opportunity to

progress on to the next level of competition. Congratulations to the following students who place 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their
