CASE STUDY - THAMESLINK

Thameslink - ‘The Boredom Monster’

VCCP approached Mummu to design and create a 30” TVC for Govia Thameslink Railway. The objective was to create a fun and quirky commercial that highlighted the benefits of using GTR during the school holidays.

Karl set the style of the animation by firstly creating the boy character and then by subtly tweaking the facial features, body, hair and hands. The monster needed to be highly expressive at the peak of his boredom tantrum, but still approachable and recognizable as the boy.

Mummu were able to work closely with VCCP in developing all other characters by presenting options, enabling the agency to choose between the various character features such as the colour of the girl’s hair or the size of the man monster’s fangs.

It took 5 weeks in total from concept to delivery for the TVC, also a print campaign was launched during that time using artwork created for the animation. This included posters, leaflets and much more.

Anna Freud Centre Charity

“The Anna Freud Centre is a children’s mental health charity with over 60 years’ experience of caring for young minds. Our vision is a world in which children and their families are effectively supported to build on their own strengths to achieve their goals in life. The animation we’ve produced with Mummu aims to overcome this by sharing what we do and the impact we have with our stakeholders in a creative, imaginative, engaging and accessible way.” - Rose Palmer, Anna Freud Centre

Mummu Creative Director Sam Atkin wrote the story using the paper aeroplane to weave together the centres research, education and policy influence, based upon their front line work with children and families. Using the story structure, the centre then developed a script and Mummu assisted in refining this to compliment the animation.

Nokia

With only the existing print campaign and prototype phone as reference, FCB Inferno worked with our studio to develop an audio visual style guide to enable brand consistency across the various agencies working on the campaign.

Our team initially created a 3D tile environment, reflecting the characteristics and movements of the Nokia Lumia Windows interface.

Our brief evolved into producing animated media for the Lumia launch

- at the Nokia World conference - and on-going use within retail stores, globally.

We combined 2D and 3D animation to take the audience on a journey through the Lumia’s new, sleek design and easy-to-use operating system.

Our final challenge was to develop the media for television advertising. We created six commercials for global broadcast, each with fully editable content for flexibility with international markets; allowing for changes, such as language translations and Lumia market availability.

IBM Wimbledon

We worked with OgilvyOne Worldwide to develop content for the IBM #whoknew social media campaign. OgilvyOne selected IBM’s most interesting data insights collected at Wimbledon and asked us to bring them to life using animated infographics.

Our team worked with OgilvyOne creatives to establish a concept and a series of storyboards. Quirky, colourful characters were developed to effectively highlight IBM’s focus on three types of analytics: Social, Predictive and Cloud.

We animated infographics using the chosen data insights. However, to guarantee the infographics were reactive to the 2014 Wimbledon Championships (which had not yet started at the time of production) we delivered working animation files that allowed OglivyOne to apply the most recent data.

It took just three weeks to develop the fifteen animations from concept to delivery.

Sony Xperia

Iris Worldwide launch Sony Xperia Z with the #XperiaZtests interactive Twitter campaign, where selected tweets became animations.

In the Twitter campaign, Sony Xperia GB (@sonyxperiagb) asked followers to tweet how they would test the smartphone’s features, using the #XperiaZtests hashtag, for their tweet to become a reality.

Out of the hundreds of #XperiaZtests submissions, just fifteen would be selected for transformation from 140 characters into either an

illustration, animation or real-time test footage, created by our talented creative team.

Due to the responsive nature of social media, each chosen tweet had only four days to be developed from idea to finished animation.

The campaign lasted just four weeks and we developed an unbelievable eight films - including the live footage - within that time.

Uk Sport

We worked with UK Sport and the National Lottery to develop a short animated film to use as part of their athlete induction training.

We wanted to tell the story of funding in a fun and quirky way; So we developed a series of characters and scenes using a stylised colour palette of primarily red, white and blue.

The animation now promotes the good work that UK Sport carry out, thanks to funding provided by the National Lottery. It is currently being shown at major sporting events across the UK.

Future Learn has made education accessible to more than 650,000 people across the globe in over 178 different countries.

The film highlights the variety of reasons people learn online and the positive impact it has had on their lives. We spoke to one learner who had completed a whopping 24 courses ranging in subjects from creative coding to Shakespeare.
