This years theme encourages us to ocus on God and not on ourselves.

The Great Commission o Jesus Christ oers us the great missionary

charter o the Church. It contains more than enough justication or

us to urge the carrying o the Gospel to every nation, people group,

and age group. We are positively instructed by Christ to evangelize the

    world.

And yet, the truth today is that more than hal o the people on earth

live in a culture that has no evangelizing church at all-not one! 1.8billion people on earth right now have never heard the name o Jesus.

    How can that be?

The Church has never had more people, more talent, more resources,

and more tools to accomplish this task but we appear to be moving the

    opposite way.

The mission o God does not come rom the act that there are people

who live with great physical needs (it is not people centered). The

mission o God springs rom the direct command o Christ (it is God

centered). The church that neglects this mission can only do so by

disregarding the express orders o Jesus.

We in Evangelism Explosion must, by Gods grace, share the Gospel to

every nation until every person has heard. Jesus last command must

    truly be our rst concern.

    WORKS

The Good News Does NotMake the Front Page

It may not make the evening news, but it doesnt mean

its not happening. Below the radar screen o the mainline press,

people are leading others to Jesus in great numbers.

Its easy to think that were ailing. But looking under the

surace and seeing what God is doing, we discover that were

living in the greatest spiritual ingathering in the world.

In 1995, statistics indicated that 200,000 people were

being reached or Christ daily! And today, it is much greater than

that. Arica, the so-called Dark Continent, has more Christians

than there are people in North America. You dont get this news

    rom the media.

    Training those won to

Christ to train yet others is

    happening through EE.

    We call this publication

    Multiply because it

    is that principle, o

    multiplication, that gives us hope

to reach every one rom our multiplying

    population with the Good News.

We are to preach the Gospel to every creature. That is

    The Mission o God Prepare&Declare.

    EE grows in Italy

Three years ago, Sister Nancy Gutierrez

was trained at a Filipino EE Leadership Clinic

in Florence, Italy. The clinic was hosted by

    Assemblee Di Dio Missione Evangelica

Filippina (ADI-MEF). She then began to train

ellow believers. Nancys lie began multiplying

in the lives o others. Today, she has trained

more than 100 believers in Milan, Como,Florence, and Parma in Italy who are now EE

    trainers.

The JIL Church in Milan has grown to

more than 600 believers. On November 5, 2006,

Rev. Bernard Henson, Executive Director or

EE Philippines, had the privilege o awarding

certicates to 30 new EE graduates. JIL Milan

will host two EE Leadership Training Clinics in

2007. ADI MEF will host two other EE clinics

    in Rome.

To Marcia Ardis, Kids EE North

    America Director

Thank you or your consistent and prayerulconcerns about the rst Kids EE clinic in Korea.

We had 47 clinicians rom 25 dierent churches

and institutions throughout Korea. From the

two on-the-job training sessions, we shared the

Gospel with 139 kids, among whom 118 prayed

to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

The Kids EE musical, The Big Trip, was

perormed or the clinicians and to more than

1,000 people who packed the Art Hall o

Hallelujah Community Church. It took a lot owork, but God worked a miracle, and all those

present clearly witnessed God working with us

through Kids EE in a mighty way.

The Korean people are catching the vision

o Kids EE to transorm children into spiritual

champions. The Lord will surely bless the kids

and use them or His Kingdom.

With assistance rom the Kids EE AdvisoryCommittee and a talented group o teachers, the

new and improved Kids EE materials are ready

Kids EE Director or North America, was to

design materials that teachers will open and say,

    We can do this.

and teaching new concepts and scriptures.

Dramas and illustrations are careully explained

so biblical concepts will be clearly demonstrated

to participants. Songs rom the newly published

Kids EE Musical are integrated into each unit.

    Although Kids EE encourages teachers

to attend workshops and/or clinics or training,

    QUICK START from Youth EE

Its like getting time wrapped in a box.

Youth Evangelism Explosion is rolling out a new,

revolutionary orm o training. Its called QUICK

START, the quickest way we know or kids to

start talking to their riends about their aith. Its

lie changing, un, interactive, and easy to learn.

QUICK START breaks training down into two six-

    week sessions.

    In the rst six weeks,

    kids learn a simplied

    Gospel presentation. Once

    students gain condence,

we invite them back or a

    second six-week session

    called ZOOM, where

students learn to share their aith even better.

The Mission: Build a radio tower and equip people with the

    precious Gospel o Jesus Christ

The Experience: Stone Age. Meager ood supplies.

    Reugees everywhere. War-ravaged environment. Its

hard to imagine. Two EE trainers, Rev. Paul Hurst and Don

Warren, are becoming more and more amiliar with lie

in Sudan. On numerous occasions, they have traveled

there to help urther the Gospel.

During their most recent visit in October, they

also began the work to build a radio station and erect

a radio tower so that the Gospel could be heard in this

    part o the world.

Beore landing the plane, the pilot makes a rst

pass to chase the cows o the dirt runway. Upon

landing on the pockmarked path, known by locals as

the international airport, visitors discover that more

dicult means o road travel lie ahead.

There are no paved roads, just rutted

paths snaking through the bush. It

takes a ull day just to move a hundred

bone-jarring miles. On this journey, only motorbikes

will do because paths are too narrow

or autos, and streams and rivers have

no bridges. Don and Paul regularly

transport their motorbikes by boat as

  • 8/14/2019 Multiply Spring 2007

    14/24

    the so-called captain pulls

them across the river using a cable that

spans the river. It is really being generous to call

these water crat boats, says Paul. Eventually,

the men arrive, although somewhat weary and

bruised. Well travel by whatever means it

    takes, says Don.

The culture is basically Stone Age, Don

says. They eat whatever they can get their hands

on. Sometimes its monkey meat. Other times

its termites. Reugees are everywhere due to thewar and this puts added pressure on an already

    meager ood supply.

All o the locals are subsistence armers.

Anything that grows in their own gardens, that

survives the blight o crop disease, the oraging

o animals, and insect invasion will be their ood

source or the year. Once this ood supply is gone,

    hunger sets in.

They use wood or uel that the women

gather by hand. Females have daunting

challenges to roam the bush, oten or miles,

to gather and return home with enough uel or

the needs o the day. Women bear the brunt

o all labor. No task is simple whether cooking,

laundering, cleaning, etching water, or bearing

and raising children. They live in conditions that

are hard to imagine, Don says. With virtually no health care, more than

3,000 children die every day rom malaria. There

are many other insect and water borne diseases

that the people contend with. This central part o

    Arica is especially dangerous.

In this sickening environment, each day is

    a

    day o

    survival. Don and

    Paul take photos

    o water that is

    consumed by the

    locals alongside o

    the water they must

    lter and treat. Their

    clear water was in stark

    contrast to the local dirty,

yellow liquid. Just one sip o

this water is very dangerous to

them. The saddest act is that many

o these diseases are preventable or treatable.

During this October 2006 adventure, Don and Pau

transported mosquito nets and distributed them

to hundreds o people who had never beore seen

one. They were especially glad to put a net into

the hands o pregnant and nursing mothers. The

chance o survival or an inant/child protected by

    a mosquito net rises dramatically.

Sudan is a ministry or Don and Paul,

where they go to equip people with the precious

Gospel o Jesus Christ. As a lay person, Don

exclaims, there are things I cant do. But, now

that I am equipped, I can train others.

During their trips, Don and Paul have

equipped hundreds o people. Many o them

come rom more than a hundred miles to stay or

a week o training. Don conducts Kids EE clinics

and Paul instructs pastors in Bible and Theology.

Many times this training is the very rst ormal

    teaching the locals have received.

knowledge and instruction in evangelism and Bible is so great we are compelled to go.

Don travels to Sudan at least twice a year, depending on the project needs and unding. Paul

calls him the hardest working missionary I have ever known. Not a minute o time is allowed to slip

by without using it or Kingdom building.

He has been able to use Kids EE in very creative ways to train people where literacy is low.Because Kids EE is interactive adults who cannot read can learn how to share the Gospel and train

    others in evangelism.

Don is the ull time missionary and the leader o the trips. Paul says, All I have to do is show

up with my suit cases. Both men are committed to return as oten as the Lord allows. Paul has been

certied as Visiting Proessor by a seminary or southwestern Sudan. Don is beloved and has been

adopted into some o the tribes. One o the messages that struck deeply into their hearts came rom a

tribal chie who has given his lie to Christ. He said, There are many rom the west who come to help,

but there are very ew who come back.

He was so committed to learning the Gospel presentation, thathe asked someone else to train him. By the time of our return, he

had not only trained 12 others, but had takenthe Gospel into a known wicked communitywhere witchcraft was practiced.

EE has transormed mylie. I not only came into

    a strong understanding

    o my own salvation

    ater being trained in EE,

    but now I am equipped

to share the Gospel with others. My ondest

memory was witnessing to 10 teens. Seven o

the teens made a commitment to Jesus, one o

    which was my 11-year-old son.

Im apastorby trade and my real

passion is sharing the Gospel o

    Jesus Christ.

    I especially enjoy

    sharing the Gospel

    with the unchurched in

our area. At PinnacleChurch, our goal is

    to connect people to

    God, grow them in

Christ, and lead them to serve in ministry. EE is

the best tool that we know o or leading people

into a relationship with Christ and initiating them

into the discipleship process. EE is much more

than a training program or knocking on doors. It is

a liestyle o sharing our aith in everyday lie. As

a Christ-ollower EE has revolutionized my way o

witnessing to the world around me.

    Im apharmacistby trade, and my

real passion is sharing the Gospel o

    Jesus Christ.

As a pharmacist, Ive developed an awareness

that people need help with health care related

    needs. However, Evangelism Explosion ignited

my passion to help others in a dierent way. EE

has opened up my eyes to see that every person

has a deep need or God in their lives. I now have

the awareness to see witnessing opportunities in

    everyday lie and the

    ability to share my aith

    eectively. I have the

    condence to tell others

    about the dierences

God has made in my lieand heart. I very much

Pastor Smiley Sturgis EE ministry is now in the able hands o lay leaders. Currently it is run by Ronnie

and Lynn Lester. At Good News Church, evangelism is more than

a ministry; it is a part of the culture.

Last year, Good News Church organized an EE mission trip to

Costa Rica, where hundreds o youngsters made proessions o

aith in Jesus Christ. Another trip took them to Kiev to work with

Dr. Nickolay Revtov, EE Vice President or Eurasia.

For every proession o aith in Christ, a fower is added to a basket that sits in ront o the sanctuary.

Says Pastor Sturgis, We see EE as more than just an evangelism tool. We use EE as a discipleship

training tool or anyone in our church who wants a deeper walk with Christ. It is more than learning

how to share the Gospel. It is a very integrated ministry with everyone growing in the process.

    Friend of Sinners

Jesus has been called the Friend o Sinners. People were

drawn by His miracles and teaching, but also by the love

and acceptance they ound in Him. They were drawn by His

FRIENDSHIP. Are people drawn to Christ by your riendship?

One o the main reasons we do not see more people

coming to Christ is because o the bad attitudes believers

commonly display toward the lost. Just ask yoursel, What are

the terms we commonly use to designate those who dont know

Christ? We call them heathen, sinners, UN-believers, UN-saved,

    UN-churched, NON-Christian, NON-believer, NON-churched, or

heres a real positive one, LOST. How do you think people eel

about us when we reer to them as the lost? Can you think o

any positive terms we commonly use o those who dont know

the Lord? Neither can I, and thats the problem!

Suggestion: what i we change our terminology rom

lost to pre-Christians? Thats positive. Or, better yet, how

about FRIEND? That one change would make a world o

dierence! Maybe you and I would one day be honored with the

    name Friend o Sinners.

We can give you a hand

Chances are, there are people in your

congregation who would like to sharethe Gospel with a amily member, a

Experience with youth tells us that it may be best to use the

term eternal lie in place o Heaven when speaking with

postmodern thinkers. The reason is that youth are not typically

tuned into the concept o or need or Heaven. Furthermore,

Heaven is a highly connotative term draped with images o

clouds, angels, and harps that seem to be o little relevance to

    their lives.

Eternal lie, on the other hand, is a more neutral concept that

is both sel-defning and many times more intriguing to spiritual

seekers than the term Heaven. Speaking o the git o eternal

lie allows the witness to emphasize the present, daily benefts

o lie in Christ as well as the eternal..

Objection: Thats OK or you, but I have myown thoughts, religion, ideas, etc...

Best approach: Gain a hearing for the Gospel.

General Guideline: Share the Gospel in love. Do

not try to win an argument, which seldom i ever

    wins a heart.

    Possible Responses:

1.Thats great. Would you mind sharing them

with me? And then maybe I can share some o my

    thoughts with you.

2.The question is, how do we know which ideas

about religion are right and which are wrong?

Suppose I said to you, The moon has black soil

beneath the moon dust, and you disagreed. How

would we determine who was right? The best

way is to ask someone who has been there. Neil

Armstrong could clear it up or us. Well, in my un-

derstanding, there has been only one person whohas seen the eternal state and can thereore speak

with authority. His name is Jesus Christ. Youve

got to agree He was one o the greatest teachers

who ever lived. Im not asking you i you believe

in Him, the Bible, or Heaven, but could I just share

with you what Jesus and the Bible teach about

eternal lie and how we can obtain it? Im sure it

will only enhance your spiritual understanding.

Ask the Two Diagnostic Questions and share the

    Gospel.

3.Thats great. You have every right to your own

ideas and belies. May I ask you what you have

come to understand about the central issue o the

Bible, which is the attainment o lie eternal? What

in your opinion, does the Bible teach about how

one can obtain eternity in Heaven? Im not ask-

ing i you believe it, just i you understand what it

    teaches.
