2: EVALUATION SURVEY
2.1: OVERVIEW A multi-operator 2G / 3G mobile coverage survey was carried out on levels 2 and 3 of 1 The Main Street , which is occupied by Acme Trading Inc.
2.2: NETWORK PERFORMANCE Pictorial results showing existing levels of cellular coverage are presented within Section 3 of this document. GSM (2G) 2G Coverage on levels 2 and 3 depends on the serving network. Vodafone: The better 2G coverage of all 3 operators. Some small areas of poorer coverage but in general,
both levels have acceptable coverage. O2: Poorer coverage than Vodafone but better than EE. Coverage on level 2 ok but large parts of
level 3 have poor coverage performance. EE: Level 3 coverage is better than level 2 coverage but still large parts of level 3 are experiencing
poor coverage. Level 2 coverage almost non-existent. In general, Vodafone has the better 2G coverage on both floors. Pictorial results are shown in section 3.3. UMTS (3G) 3G Coverage on levels 2 and 3 depends on the serving network. Vodafone: Poor 3G coverage on both levels 2 and 3. O2: Poor 3G coverage on level 2. Level 3 coverage much better. EE: Level 2 coverage is poor but 3G coverage on level 3 is far better 3: Level 2 coverage is poor but 3G coverage on level 3 is far better In general, 3G coverage on level 2 poor. Level 3 better for EE, 3 and O2. 3G coverage poor on both floors.

2.3: BUILDING The Acme office is located in the centre of London occupying 2 floors of a modern office building.
2.4: SYSTEM SOLUTION There are 2G coverage problems for O2 and EE. 3G coverage problems exist on level 2 for all operators while level 3 coverage is better on level 3 for O2, 3 and EE. With the requirement to have good 2G and 3G coverage on both floors from at least Vodafone and O2 as a minimum but preferably from all 4 operators, the preferred approach is to install a shared coverage solution on both floors that all 4 operators can use. All coverage solutions comprise two parts. The antenna system and the electronics which are connected to the antenna system. The electronics inject signals into the antenna system. The antenna system installed by Smarter Mobile is capable of carrying signals from all operators. In this respect it is called a shared system or neutral host system. This part of the solution is not illegal and anyone can own and install an antenna system. However, the antenna system is pretty useless without any electronics connected to it. In this country, it is a legal requirement that only permitted electronic equipment can be connected to the antenna system and each operator has to have its own electronics connected to the antenna system. So for an antenna system to support all UK operators you would need 4 sets of electronics. All Smarter Mobile installations (antenna systems) come with the EE electronics already installed. So from day one, the EE coverage will be great on both floors. To support O2 and /or Vodafone, permission can be obtained from these operators to also install their electronic equipment. Smarter can liaise with these operators on behalf of ACME to obtain this consent. Next steps: Undertake a design exercise to design a shared coverage system for levels 2 and 3 and to produce full costs for this solution. Smarter can provide a quote to undertake this exercise.
