Coal Seam Gas Concern

Local residents are shocked to find out that CSG mining is planned in the Warragamba catchment

At the recent meeting in War-ragamba spokesperson Nadene Seisun said ldquoYou are not even al-lowed to walk in the area to pro-tect the quality of Sydneyrsquos drink-ing water CSG poses enormous risk to water food communities and the environment and the Government is not stopping it Locals want to know who is moni-toring what is happening in the catchmentrdquo

Hans lived in Mulgoa for 38 years and has died suddenly He was well known for his cheerful and friendly personality and for deliver-ing the Sunday papers Long time friend Wally said ldquoHe made a good impression on everyone he met and had an amazing attitude towards his health problems which didnrsquot stop him doing what he couldrdquo

He is sadly missed by all his family and many friends

He leaves behind his parents his brother his daughters and grandchildren

Back in time at Warragamba Town

Hall On 14 April Warragamba took

a step back in time when they held the Warragamba Debutante Ball at the local Town Hall The evening was organised by Lisa Doolan for the Netball Club Councillors Judith Hannan and Simon Landow and their partners attended the even-ing along with many well dressed locals

ldquoOnce again our Warragamba community has done Wollondilly proud The ladies and their part-ners looked stunning dressed in ball gowns and suits It was a real privilege to be involvedrdquo said Cr Hannan ldquoThe Ball included the girls and their partners taking part in traditional dances which they learned prior to the evening It may have been a challenge but they danced beautifullyrdquo she said

ldquoI would like to congratulate the organisers of the Ball Lisa Doolan Rob Wilson Susie Deery Lynette Lewis Tina Thorpe and many others and thank them their hard work before and on the nightrdquo Cr Hannan

ldquoIt was also great to see the Warragamba Town Hall being used in this way Debutante Balls used to be held annually in Warragamba and it is great to see their re-emergence The organising group is hoping to hold this new event on a regular basisrdquo she said

Married Priests amp the Bible

Recent events have raised the is-sue of the marriage of priests I pre-sent some facts to the general public to assist them in their thinking

First the word priest is an English word that developed as a contraction of the Greek and Latin word presby-ter (Titus 16) Through usage over the centuries lsquopresbyterrsquo was short-ened first to prester then to priest (OED) That lsquopresbyterrsquo = lsquopriestrsquo is shown by the fact that the lsquopresbyteryrsquo is the house in which the parish priest lives

Second in the New Testament lsquopresbytersrsquo and lsquobishopsrsquo were mar-ried In Titus 15-6 Paul says that Ti-tus is to ordain priests in every city who are the husband of one wife hav-ing faithful children (Douay-Rheims) New Testament priests or presbyters were almost always married So were New Testament lsquobishopsrsquo A lsquobishoprsquo must be the husband of one wife (1 Timothy 31-2 Douay-Rheims) In the New Testament it seems that lsquobishoprsquo and lsquopresbyterrsquo were two names for the one office

Third the Apostle Peter said by the Roman Catholic Church to be the first Pope had a wife as did other

apostles Paul says that he himself and Barnabas have lsquoevery right to be accompanied by a Christian wife like the other apostles like the brothers of the Lord and like Cephas (= Simon Peter)rsquo (1 Corinthians 95-6 New Je-rusalem Bible) The Roman Catholic commentator Daniel Harrington says that Peter was married and his wife went along with him on his missionary travels (1 Corinthians Sacra Pagina 336)

Fourth the Apostle Paul was sin-gle and says that being single is bet-ter though being married is good (1 Corinthians 738) However Paul as-serted his right that he himself and Barnabas could be married and have a believing wife financially supported by the church if they decided to do this just as Jesus brothers the other Apostles and Peter (1 Corinthians 95-6) Paul was unmarried which from the perspective of the new crea-tion is better (1 Corinthians 7) But Pe-ter and the other apostles were mar-ried which from the perspective of this creation is better (Genesis 218-25) God said it was not good for the man to be alone

Fifth Paul says that it is the doc-trine of devils and of those who de-part from the faith that forbid peo-ple from marrying (1 Timothy 41-3

Douay-Rheims) These are the bible reasons why

Protestant churches including the An-glican Church allow their ministers to be married

Bishops Priests and Deacons are not commanded by Gods Law ei-ther to vow the estate of single life or to abstain from marriage therefore it is lawful for them as for all other Chris-tian men to marry at their own discre-tion as they shall judge the same to serve better for godliness (Article 32 of the 39 Articles of Religion)

Many of you will have already heard about the dramatic resignation of Father Kevin Lee from the Padro Pio Catholic parish church in Glen-more Park Kevin was a very popular priest and made the announcement on television that he had found love and got married a year ago a huge shock of his parishioners and the Catholic Church

Sporting field upgrade at Wallacia

Member for Mulgoa Tanya Davies MP has welcomed the announcement of funding for an upgrade of Wallacia Public Schools sporting field as part of the NSW Governmentrsquos Community Building Partnership program

The School PampC was awarded $30000 to remove the concrete cricket pitch level the sports field install an ir-rigation system and returf the sports field PampC President Jody Smith said the school was very grateful for the grant as without it the project couldnt be done for another 3-4 years

The field has been a mess for as long as I can re-member the PampC have been sav-ing money for the last few years Ms Smith said

The field in its current state is a safety hazard as the ground is so

hard the cricket pitch is made of con-crete and bindies and other weeds of-ten grow through the grass

Once the upgrade is complete our kids will have a safe place to play and the school can host the Gala day for Mulgoa Luddenham and Orchard Hills Public Schools Ms Smith said

Mrs Davies said ldquoThis is the deliv-ery of another election commitment from the NSW Liberals amp Nationals Government to renovate infrastructure across the State Local construction and trades jobs and local businesses

stand to benefit from the activity as community infrastructure is built refur-bish or enhanced

ldquoThere was strong competition for the available funds and a high level of interest from the community with almost 3000 applications received across the State in total

ldquoI look forward to seeing the ben-efits to our communitiesrdquo

Budget provision for Airport study protest

Wollondilly Mayor Cr Col Mitchell has responded to the Federal Govern-mentrsquos Budget announcement that it is commencing a detailed study into the proposed Wilton Airport

ldquoIn a constrained economic envi-ronment where a number of impor-tant programs have been deferred or shelved altogether I have concerns that substantial funds have been ear-marked for an airport proposal that is so flawedrdquo said Cr Mitchell

ldquoA second Sydney airport at Wil-ton would have potentially disastrous impacts on some of Sydneyrsquos most sensitive and important water catch-mentsrdquo added Cr Mitchell

an amenities block at Waterboard Oval Production Road Warragamba The building will include male and female accessible toilets shower canteen storage and spectator awning area

Funding partners along with Council included Veolia Mulwaree Trust State Government under the Community Building Partnership Program and members of the War-radale Soccer Club will be funding the internal fit outs for the amenity

Warragamba Worried About Coal Seam Gas A Community meeting held by

Stop CSG Sydney Water Catchment in Warragamba on Tues-day night brought around 50 local residents to hear about coal seam gas (CSG) drilling in the War-ragamba catchment Stop CSG Sydney Water Catch-ment has been formed to stop coal seam gas in Sydneyrsquos drinking water catchment

They are campaigning the Government for

bull A ban on CSG mining activities in Sydneyrsquos drinking water catchment

bull A Royal Commission into all im-pacts of CSG mining

bull A moratorium on CSG minng until the outcome of the Royal Commission

bull A ban on the extraction technique known as hydraulic fracturing

Shaftedrsquos Breakfast Rally in the Park

At least 200 people met to add their voices to the protest about the proposed exhaust shaft at Thirlmere

The crowd was informed by the Shafted Committee on the latest in-formation about the proposal and en-tertained by Greg Windred providing a musical backdrop to the morning

The Shafted Committee answered questions including Xstratarsquos prefer-ence to seek State approval rather than councils approval thus sidelining the Wollondilly community

Mr Jai Rowell MP has assured the Committee the planning system has been improved since the previous government As the application will be assessed by the State Government it is important to let Mr Rowell know of your concerns about the shaft

The Breakfast was also attended by Member for Wollondilly Mr Jai Rowell Mayor Col Mitchell and Coun-cillors Robert Khan and Michael Ba-nasik who have thrown their full sup-port behind the Shafted Committee in opposition to the exhaust shaft being located at Innes Street Thirlmere

Wollondilly Mayor on Airport

In a further response to the Federal Governmentrsquos re-cently announced intention to build a second Sydney airport at Wilton Wollondilly Mayor Clr Colin Mitchell has written to Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese rejecting the proposal

ldquoI have taken the opportu-nity to point out to the Minis-ter that first the Howard Coa-lition Government and then the subsequent Rudd and Gillard Labor Governments all responded to valid com-munity objections by rejecting the idea of a second airport atBadgerys Creek or else-where within the Sydney ba-sin ndash including Wiltonrdquo said Clr Mitchell

Clr Mitchell pointed out to the Minister that the Badgerys Creek site had been rejected as environmentallyunsuitable and that any site at Wilton would be even more unsuita-ble on environmental grounds alone

ldquoEnvironmental issues aside ndash and issues like wa-ter quality are critically im-portant ndash I have pointed out to the Minister that to pro-pose an airport more than 80 kilometers from the Sydney CBD with minimal support-ing ground transport infra-structure flies in the face of international commercial ex-periencerdquo said Clr Mitchell ldquoI pointed out to Minister Al-banese that whatever short term political gain might be seen to come from an airport at Wilton that very question-able gain could well come at a great and ongoing cost to Australian taxpayersrdquo added Clr Mitchell Also that his De-partment is in the process of completing a detailed and expensive study into the im-plementation of high speed rail along Australiarsquos east coastrdquo

ldquoA ldquoquick fixrdquo second air-port at Wilton is not the so-lution to Sydneyrsquos future transport needsrdquo Clr Mitchell concluded

Letter to the editor for publication I canrsquot begin to describe how disappointed I am that

journalists and editors who know full well of what mas-sive negative impacts and incredible dangers an airport at Badgerys Creek would have on the environment and the communities they publish too have either remained utterly silent on reporting this or even worse published only pro airport propaganda as we have all seen so clearly in the recent weeks

Letters detailing opposition sent to them remain un-published except for the independent papers who de-serve to be thanked and congratulated for their integrity and honesty What control is being excerpted over the Cumberland and Fairfax editors then Likewise politi-cians who have been on regular record in the media in the past noted in Government Hansard and spoken in public forums often as a platform election issue as be-ing totally opposed to any airport at Badgerys Creek are now completely silent

Why There is no doubt what-so-ever that any air-port at Badgerys Creek is completely unacceptable as is any new airport within the Sydney basin Clearly there have been a number of people including those in-volved with the recently released shockingly biased and factually deficient taskforce report who are in breach of their duty of care even to themselves and their own families Perhaps in reply to this letter OUR representa-tives Ministerrsquos Bradbury and Bowen and MPrsquos Chris Hayes and Louise Markus (and others) would care to explain what is happening here

ticipated in two combined small school activities ndash the combined swimming carnival and combined cross-country

Hans Lager 18th January 1950

Hans lived in Mulgoa for 38 years and has died suddenly He was well known for his cheerful and friendly personality and for deliver-ing the Sunday papers Long time friend Wally said ldquoHe made a good impression on everyone he met and had an amazing attitude towards his health problems which didnrsquot stop him doing what he couldrdquo

He is sadly missed by all his family and many friends

He leaves behind his parents his brother his daughters and grandchildren
