would look and surround your illustration with

information bubbles to explain what you do and how

you help.

Think about how you could be a real-life superhero

and help someone else.

LI: To spell common and tricky words.

Our new sound is – The phoneme au.

There are four different ways to make the s sound.

1. Using the letter a

2. Using the letter o

3. With the letters au

4. Using the letters aw

The phoneme au sounds the same as the short ‘o’. If you can’t remember what a short o

sounds like then watch the following video for a reminder:

https://youtu.be/4TjcT7Gto3U

This week we will focus on words using the letter a to create the s sound. This is

the easiest and most common way. The a has a short o sound.

There is usually always an l after the a.

Pick the chilli challenge level of words that will suitably challenge you:

MATHS Our maths topic is – MONEY.

This week we will look at rounding money to the nearest pound.

Watch the following video –

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zh8dmp3/articles/zsvt97h

Read the explanation under the video, and try the quiz. Although the

video talks about rounding to 50p we will only be focussing on

rounding to the nearest pound.

Choose the appropriate chilli challenge level task:

NICE & SPICY – complete the table on the next page. Estimate the

total price and estimate the change from £10.

e.g.

is £3.25 and £1.75, following the

rounding rules these they would

become £3 and £2 giving an estimated total £5.

This would give me £5 change from £10.

It’s getting hot – complete the nice & spicy task. Then calculate the

actual total cost of the items (add together the numbers before you

rounded them). Were you close?

Burning Up! - Complete the it’s getting hot activity. Once you have

calculated the actual price, then calculate the actual change from

£10. Was there much difference between the actual change and

estimated amount?

Energy Agency Lockdown Calendar

The Energy Agency calendar competition is taking a new direction this year. Being stuck inside at home during lockdown, has made us all appreciate the wonderful outdoors in Scotland! The good news is that around the world we are seeing environmental benefits of lockdown. Carbon dioxide levels have fallen, our air is cleaner due to lack of rush hour commuters and transport in general. It’s quieter too, so we can hear more nature particularly chirping birds! All these things are great and now we need to keep on being kinder to our planet! We are encouraging learners in South Ayrshire schools to hand draw and colour a picture as part of their home learning which encouraged others to help look after our planet by saving energy and resources. The winning designs will feature in our Lockdown Calendar for 2021. There are 5 different topics that you can choose from, so pick one and get drawing! 1. Heating / gas – What can people do to use less of these? 2. Electricity – How can we encourage people to waste less electricity? 3. Water – How can we use less water, and save more? 4. Waste – What can we do to recycle more of our waste? 5. Transport – How can we travel so that we produce less dangerous gases? Once you are happy with your illustration, ask a grown-up to help you photograph it, and Tweet it @SACSTEM for virtual judging. After the virtual judging has taken place, the short-listed winners will be contacted and asked to post their original illustration to the Energy Agency for final judging.

Competition rules

• All entries must be A4 size and landscape.

• The competition is open to all primary age pupils in South Ayrshire.

• Pictures must not use any computer-aided design elements.

• Pictures must be the original artwork of the learner.

• Entrants must attend a place of learning within South Ayrshire Council.

• Keep the original artwork safe – we will need the winning designs in the future

• When you are happy with your picture, take a photograph and tweet it to @SACSTEM

• Our favourite entries will be selected via Twitter and then the originals will be sent to the Energy Agency for final judging.

• The judges’ decision is final.

• Artwork may be used in an awareness raising campaign.

Entries must be submitted online by Friday 19th June 2020

Wants vs. Needs

LI: To explore our rights.

• Every child has rights, whatever their ethnic background, religion,

gender, language or ability. It is the responsibility of adults and

governments to work together to make sure children enjoy their rights.

• All children have basic needs that they can’t live without. These are

called needs.

• There are other things that we want, but do not need to survive. These

are called wants.

Create a table like this -

Look at the pictures on the following page and decide which column each item

should go in (You can either illustrate or write your choices).

I have included a copy of the UN convention on the rights of the Child, to help

you.
