Muhammad W. Ibrahim, PhD. is the Director and R&D Manager of Target Exploration Consultants Ltd responsible for concessions evaluation, prospects generation, basin analyses, country risk analysis, reservoirs and oil and gas fields studies, in addition to organising Target Exploration’s conferences, petroleum industry training courses and geological fieldtrips.

Muhammad received his BSc in Geology from the University of Baghdad. He joined the Geological Survey of Iraq soon after completing his national service, and left it upon receiving a Ministry of Oil-Iraq Petroleum Co. scholarship to study for his MSc and PhD in Petroleum Geology at the Imperial College, University of London.

Dr. Ibrahim joined King Abdul-Aziz University in Jeddah Saudi Arabia to establish and head the Department of Petroleum Geology after receiving his PhD on his thesis “Petroleum Geology of Southern Iraq”, then moved to Tripoli, Libya to work for Mobil Oil Libya as Staff Geologist in 1982, where he merged the proven practices of Mobil Oil with his new academic research to revise the geology of oilfields, propose and steer regional geochemical source rocks evaluation project; generate prospects and participate in oil discoveries.

Muhammad became the acting Development Geology Group Superintendent of VEBA Oil Operations, Libya when VEBA Oel took over Mobil shares of Mobil Oil Libya before returning after seven prolific years to London to join LASMO, establish Target Exploration Consultants in 1990 and work with several oil companies.

The Petroleum Exploration and Development Geology experience of Dr. Ibrahim encompasses Proterozoic reservoir rocks of the Salt Basins of Oman to the Recent fluvial-deltaic sediments of the Mesopotamian Basin, and the rift basins fields of Libya and Sudan to Zagros-Taurus over-thrust fold belt fields of North Iraq.
