Blue Ribbon Home AwardWinners Judged on ‘Curb Appeal’Members of the Community Enrichment Commission are hosting Hazelwood’s Blue Ribbon Home Awards Program again this year. But a change was made to the program in how the homes will be judged. Instead of judging the entire property, this year’s entries will be judged on “curb appeal” or street view of the house from the front yard. Commission members and residents can nominate homes to be judged beginning in late April and ending in May. The final judging takes place in June and the awards will be presented in August. Up to two homes from each ward are chosen as winners. The property owners will be invited to a Council meeting in August for a special ceremony. Each of them will receive an award plaque and a giant blue ribbon. A special reception will be held for them afterwards in the atrium. Past winners are eligible to win again after a 3-year waiting period.

NorthPoint Development, which recently acquired Hazelwood Logistics Center, is nearing completion of its first speculative industrial building in the park. It plans to fill the remaining acreage in the park with a variety of buildings suited for industrial and logistic uses.

Aviator Business Park, a Panattoni Development Co. project on the old Ford plant site in Hazelwood, was featured in a recent St. Louis Post-Dispatch article about the surge in growth of the St. Louis region’s industrial market. Lease rates are up for warehouses and factories. Construction is up as well, including two new buildings at Aviator. Panattoni plans to erect six structures at Aviator, where it has already completed spec buildings leased quickly to International Foods, Silgan Plastics and Weekends Only.
