Muay Thai is an ancient martial art which has been practiced among brave men of Siam, now known as Thailand, for centuries. Muay Thai is also known as the art of 8 limbs in coordination with body parts which act like weapons such as hands, shins, knees and elbows.

Muay Thai is not about violence and aggression; it is more about self defence. Some people also practice Muay Thai as a way to slim down, burn calories, build strength or just to de-stress.

What does all-inclusive training cover?

PHUKET

During your time at Tiger Muay Thai, your training schedule can be as varied as you want it to be. Not only can you take classes in Muay Thai, MMA, and western boxing from champions in the sport, but Tiger Muay Thai also offers a large range of activities for all levels. All-inclusive training includes classes in wrestling, self-defence, yoga, bodyfit, cross-training, Krabi-krabong, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and Muay Boran. These last three, which some may be more unfamiliar with, are highlighted on this page.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is perfect for anyone looking to grasp a general understanding of ‘ground fighting’ and grappling. BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by taking the fight to the ground using proper technique, leverage, and then applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent.

Muay Boran, the direct ancestor of modern Muay Thai, focuses on efficiency and maximising the amount of damage from each blow. It utilises striking attacks, joint locks, throws and even ground grappling. Muay Boran does not have one uniform style, as each area of Thailand has their own unique fighting style.

Krabi-Krabong, literally translating to “sword and stick” in Thai, is a weapon-based martial art involving two swords that has been taught throughout history to Thai soldiers for use on the battlefield. Krabi-krabong can easily be used for self-defence, substituting swords for everyday objects.
