I can vividly recall the feelings of happiness, excitement and suspense as I held my bid card and read the three words that would help to evolve me as both a woman and sister. For the last three years, Kappa Kappa Gamma has been my shoulder to cry on, my home away from home and a safe place to find myself bolstered by the support of my sisters. I cannot help but smile when I think about the number of strong women who have walked the red stairs before us and the number of strong women who will continue to walk those very same red stairs after we are long gone from 821 West Hampton Drive. Here at Mu Chapter, there is so much for our sisterhood to be proud of, especially looking back on this fall semester. The chapter raised over $9,000 during our annual Kappa Kickoff event to benefit one of our philanthropies, Coburn Place. Additionally, we were able to partner with Coburn Place once again to raise awareness for domestic violence month through a cell phone drive on campus. The final event of the initiative included members of Mu Chapter collecting electronic devices outside of a Colts game in October. Our philanthropic efforts continued as we hosted Kappa Harvest to raise money and collect books for Reading is Fundamental. Our chapter worked hard in regards to academic success, involvement on campus with nearly 96 percent of our chapter involved in at least one other activity outside of Kappa and the strengthening of our sisterhood, as well. There is so much for this chapter to be proud of! Mu Chapter will always be home to so many of us. It will be a place of support, encouragement and an infinite amount of influential memories. With recruitment right around the corner and an opportunity to welcome home another group of amazing and diverse women into our sisterhood, we cannot help but be thankful for the experiences we have been granted by our involvement in Kappa Kappa Gamma. The friendships are not simply for four years but for a lifetime. I look forward to another great semester here at Mu Chapter, and I cannot wait to see what these women will be able to accomplish next! I hope that you will continue to follow along with us on this wonderful journey. Loyally, Courtney West President of Kappa Kappa Gamma: Mu A letter from the President...

MU MURMURS

As I approach my final semester of college, I find myself spending a good amount of time reflecting on my first year at Butler. I can vividly recall the feelings of happiness, excitement and suspense as I held my bid card and read the three words that would help to evolve me as both a woman and sister. Kappa Kickoff

This fall we held our annual

philanthropy event, Kappa Kickoff.

Kickoff is a week of fundraising, leading

up to our big Kickoff Kickball

tournament! All proceeds benefit our

local domestic violence shelter, Coburn

Place. This year’s theme was the

groovy 70s! Throughout the week we

sold Kickoff shirts and hosted giveback nights at Hotbox Pizza and

Chick-fil-a. This year, we added raffle prizes for those who shared our

donation link throughout the week.

Friday September 18th was the big event at the Kappa house.

Dinner, prepared by our chefs, was cookout style with burgers,

hotdogs, and various sides. Dinner was followed by the kickball

tournament. Delta Tau Delta and Alpha Phi won first place! The day

ended with fraternity lip syncs with Phi Delta Theta taking first place.

Overall, we surpassed our fundraising goal and raised over $9,000!

Thank you to everyone who made donations to Coburn Place!

These ladies had some outstanding dance skills in fraternity lip sync competitions!

Masquerade Ball On October 9th Fall Formal was held at Mavris Arts

& Event Center in Indianapolis. Formal was planned

by our social chair, Junior Abbigail Peters. The fall

formal is a chance for the new members to pick a

theme for the event. Masquerade Ball was the

winning theme for the dance this year. Sisters and

their dates wore masks to fit the theme. “I loved the

venue and the food was great, especially that mac n‘

cheese,” said Melissa West, junior. The night was full

of music, dancing, and even exploring the outdoor

garden at the venue. Overall our first new members’

formal was a success!

Mom’s day is a time for Kappas to invite our favorite gal for a

fun day at the Kastle. Sisters can invite any influential

woman in their life to come participate in the activities

planned for the day. This year, KKG’s and their guests got to

peruse the wonderful Raelynn’s Boutique while also painting

bowls, mugs and more courtesy of Half-Baked Pottery. Cake

Bake Shop and Taylor’s Bakery provided delicious treats to

sweeten up the day with our lovely ladies. The sisters and all

invited guests had a blast creating more memories with the

important women in their lives. Thank you, KKG for such a

great day! - Maddie Reidy PC ‘15

Thank you for a great year and your endless support!

“To me, Kappa is growth. Everyday I learn something new from a sister whom I may not

know very well or from a sister whom I thought I knew really well already. Each day, I see

my sisters living out Kappa values of scholarship, friendship, and leadership, and it inspires

me to give back to this amazing organization. I have personally grown through programs

such as Leadership Academy, but I have also grown by sitting in the kitchen talking to my

sisters or going to my first hockey game with the chapter. I know that Kappa has helped me

grow and will continue to make me my best self. I am eternally grateful to my sisters and

Kappa Kappa Gamma.” - Libby Moyer PC ‘15

Homecoming

This year’s theme for Butler

Homecoming was cartoons. Kappa

decided to focus on the Flintstones.

Kappa was paired with Sigma Nu this

year. It was a blast being paired with

such gentlemen. The Kappa house

was decorated just like a scene out of

the Flintstones. We placed 1st in the

Lawn decoration competition! We also

placed 2nd in the Yell Like Hell

competition. For the Yell Like Hell

performance, we followed Pebble’s and Bamm-Bamm’s first year at Butler. The story line was realizing

the Butler Way - just in time for Bamm-Bamm to win the Homecoming football game. Mu’s very own,

Kaylie Ricks, was named Butler’s 2015 Homecoming Queen! We are all proud to call her one of our

sisters. She is such a great representation of our chapter and Butler University. In the overall

competition, Kappa and Sigma Nu placed 2nd. Butler football even won the game 25-24! We are very

proud of all that was accomplished that week. Happy to be a bulldog! - Gracie Weisenhofer PC’15
