MURUGAN RAJAGOPURAM AND TEMPLE EXPANSION PROJECT

Murugan Rajagopuram and the Temple Expansion Project are progressing well due to the supporof dedicated devotees including those who are part of the MTNA THIRUPANI KUZHU. The planninstarted in November 2011; the concrete tower ofRajagopuram was completed in August 2013. TenSilpis  (Indian temple artisans) arrived in October2013 and began their work in designing and addingarchitectural decoration to the five levels of the Ra-

jagopuram, and constructing 12 decorative pillars in

ulpragaram (in the temple prayer hall). Four more

pillars are to be completed in the next few months.

Construction of Phase  II started in late November2015. Phase II includes construction of a kitchen, adining hall, yaga sala, a library, a madapalli (formaking prasadam), rooms for various purposes, anelevator and a pradakshina path. Ulpragaram

ceiling and Indianization of the 16 Pillars each with a MURUGAN statue, depiction of Arupadai Veedu

Kathirgamam, and Nallur Murugan on the walls in the temple prayer hall and construction of North andSouth towers, and a new roof are all planned for completion by June 2016. Our major goal is to celebrate Rajagopuram Maha Kumbhabishekam in the Utthirayana Punyakalam, sometime prior to July 152016.

So far we have expended about $1.4 million and about $4 million more is needed for the completion of the project. A loan for $2.84 million is obtained toward the project cost.

We appeal to the devotees of Lord Murugan to continue to donate generously so that we cancomplete the project and celebrate Rajagopuram Maha Kumbhabishekam as planned in 2016.

Padmasri Muthiah Sthapathy of Tamil Nadu, India, the chief architect of MTNA, is being honored byDr. Gopal Guruswamy, Chairman of MTNA Boardof Trustees at the Gala Fundraiser Event in De-cember, 2015.
