Unsure Steampunk Dear Mary,

I like the style of steampunk, which is making really old fashioned styles look modern, but I am afraid to wear it out at school. I need some really good advice!

Steamshy

!Dear Steamshy,

It can be tricky to decide whether or not to wear something because of the fear you have that people will make fun of you. But remember, There are many people in this world, and the opinion of one is like nothing compared to the other 699,999,999,999 peoples! Who cares if people make fun of you? You like it and that's all that matters! I think that that would look TOTALLY awesome! If someone says something mean, then you can just say "Yeah. But I think it's more awesome then that plain old shirt your wearing!" or even just laugh with them. That's the best thing you can do! Whenever you feel yourself welling up with anger or about to cry, laugh instead. Don't let anyone be mean to you. Your awesome, and no one can tell you otherwise.

~Mary~

Future Blogger? Dear Mary, !I REALLY want a blog, but I don't know how and my parents won't let me. How can I persuade them and if I do, how do I make the blog? Blogger !!Dear Blogger, !Blogs are SUPER fun to do! But, sometimes it can be hard to keep up! When your parents are in a good mood and not to busy, ask them how they would feel about letting you have a blog. If their response is negative, take a deep breathe and DO NOT overreact! This will just show them that you're not mature enough to get a blog. Ask them what their concerns are and try to compromise. If they say they don't want your name and face up on the internet, then tell them you will create a Pen Name and won't give out names, birthdays, pictures, or any other info. If they still say no, let it cool down for a while and try later in the week and/or month. Making the blog ~ Go to www.blogger.com to make your own free blog! The set up is SUPER easy to do and has very detailed instructions. Another great website to make a blog is www.wordpress.org. Hope this helps! !~Mary~

THE BRACELET!!

Look at her hair!” “And those earrings!”

The cruel words rang through my head as I walked down the hall to my locker. For years people have been making fun of me, but I can’t blame them. I have super pale skin, thin stringy hair, braces, and bad skin. I’m your basic everyday nerd.

Michelle and Becca have been teasing me even more lately. We’re in Junior High now. I hang my head as I open my locker.

The rest of the school day flies by as a blur of more rude remarks and combusting comments. I’m glad to finally get home and collapse in bed.

I haven’t been laying down for more than five minutes when my mom knocks on the door. She pokes her head in. “Sweetheart,” she says in a soft voice. “I need you to run some errands for me. I have a book on hold at the library and need you to pick it up. Okay?” I roll over and groan. “I guess.” I say. I drag myself out of bed and pull on my shoes. I grab my library card and head out the door. As I walk down the street I think about Michelle and Becca. I wonder why they tease me instead of teasing Sharon. Even though I am an ugly nerd, I know that there is at least one person who is uglier than I am. Sharon Jensen. She has pasty white skin, frizzy, curly hair, and is a little over weight. I do feel bad for her, but I have my reputation to keep.

I head in the door of the library and get my mom’s book. As I’m walking to the checkout counter, I see a banner hanging my one of the shelves. The banner reads “Checkout our newest items; Character bracelets!” Once I reach the shelf I ask the librarian about these bracelets. “Oh these are very popular right now! You can check out these bracelets, and when you put them on that’s what you become.” She explains to me. “Which one would you like?” She lets me behind the counter to look at the bracelets. There is many. I see rich, famous, healthy, but my eyes linger on the bracelet that read “popular”. I’m about to grab it when a pink one catches my eye. I look at the label. “Beautiful”. “I’ll take this one!” I say to the librarian. I run all the way home. I can’t wait to see myself after I put the bracelet on. I hand my mom her book and then lock myself in the bathroom. I look in the mirror and take off my thick glasses. I take the pink bracelet out of its case and close my eyes as I slip it on my arm. I imagine what Michelle and Becca will say tomorrow at school when they see me. I grin. I slowly open my eyes and look in the mirror, shocked.

I look exactly the same as I did when I slipped the bracelet on. Still have my pale skin, stringy hair, and braces. I’m upset. Why did it not work? I open the door and walk into my room. I throw the bracelet into my top dresser drawer. What a rip off. I burry my face in the pillow. Then I get an idea. I’ll take the bracelet to school tomorrow and have Sharon try it on to see if it has any effect.

!The next day at school I run in the doors, ignoring Michelle and Becca’s rude comments. I see Sharon at her locker and pull her into the bathroom. I explain to her about the bracelet and she agrees to try it on. She faces the mirror and slips the bracelet on her arm. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

I trudge through the rest of the school day, extremely disappointed in my bracelet. Why had it not made me beautiful?

I get home and lay in bed. My mom calls me down for dinner, but I’m not hungry. I open the case for the bracelet and a slip of paper falls out. I pick it up and read it. “100% satisfactory guaranteed”. Yeah right, I think. I lay on my back and stare up at the ceiling. This bracelet didn’t make me beautiful. I’m still the same nerdy girl I had always been. I roll over and stare at the wall poster my mom bought me last year. It reads Be your own kind of beautiful. Suddenly something dawns on me. The bracelet didn’t work on me because I really am beautiful! I am beautiful the way I am. I have max beauty and so does Sharon! Everyone does! Suddenly I am hungry. I run downstairs to stuff my face with delicious food. I can’t wait to get to school tomorrow.

The next day, I walk into school with my head held high, ready to show everyone my beauty. At lunch, I see Sharon sitting by herself. I walk over to her. “Is this seat taken?” I say smiling and sitting down next to her. We talk about different things, school, games, blah blah blah. It’s really cool to get to REALLY meet Sharon. She’s really beautiful, just like I am.
