News from the Mission Board Our congregation, through the direction of the Mission Board, supports various
ministries and mission work. During the month of January we recognize Sanctity
of Human Life and we support the ministry of Lutherans for Life.
Lutherans For Life is for the lives of …
… the preborn—to love them, speak up for them, and defend
their rights as Scripture admonishes.
… children—to love them, nurture them, and teach them the val-
ue that God gives to all human life.
… young people—to love them, respect them, and help them
protect God’s precious gift of sexuality.
… women and men facing a crisis pregnancy—to love them,
help them choose life, and support them in that choice.
… women and men experiencing the aftermath of abortion—
to love them, speak loving truth to them; and offer them for-
giveness, hope, and healing in Jesus Christ.
… people with disabilities and terminal illness—to love them,
care for them, and be with them in their suffering.
… the elderly—to love them, speak well of them, and honor (or
cherish) their gifts of wisdom.

Above is the new LWML logo. It was designed for the 75th anniversary of LWML and adopted at their convention in June at Albuquerque.
Below is the "story" that the logo tells.
The Heart of God is behind all that we are and do . . .
He has loved us so . . .
Seen in His only begotten Son . . .
His cross and sacrifice . . .
His cherished blood for us . . .
Shed for the forgiveness of sins.
Therefore, we lift high the cross of Christ . . .
Guiding our thanks and praise and service . . .
So that his heart is impressed upon our own . . .
And by the Spirit we are blessed with joy and peace.
Here is something new -
Mt. Calvary Men’s Club We already have men signed up and our first organization meet-ing is Sunday, January 14, 2018 following the second church ser-vice, in the library.
Come join us!
Abortion is the Number One Killer of Children in the World.
Statistics from the Alan Guttmacher Institute, Center for Bioethical Reform, tell us that worldwide approximately 42 mil-lion children die per year in the hands of abortionists. That means 115,000 children per day, or al-
most 4,800 per hour are put to death. In the US, 62 million children have been aborted since 1973.
“When we view abortion through the lens of our Christian faith, we do not see a moral issue that needs correcting or a political issue that needs strate-gizing. We see a spiritual issue that takes priority. The child in the womb belongs to God, formed by His hands and purchased by His blood. Abortion not only assaults human life, it assaults the Creator and Redeemer of human life.” Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, former Executive Director of Lutherans for Life.
January 22, 2018 is the 45th year since the date the Supreme Court ruled to allow abortion on demand in the U.S. Please join the rally and any of the full day of events in Topeka on Monday, January 22. See the flyer for the schedule details.
What a blessing it is to have so many talented members at Mt. Calvary.
Take a moment this month to say thank you to Trina Steinbach and Cheryl Price for sharing their
time and talents as directors of our Children's Christ-mas program.

January Activities
National Youth Gathering Information Meeting Sunday, January 14th, 11:50-12:05
Come learn more about the 2019 NYG in Minneap-olis. What in a National Youth Gathering? What do you do? Is there anything to do in Minneapolis? What will be required of me if I want to go? This is a short (15 min) information only meeting so there is no commitment to attend the gathering but interest level will be gauged for planning purposes. This meeting is open to youth currently in grade 7 to 11 and their par-ents.
