D F ,

Peace and all Good!

On this Feast of the Epiphany we celebrate that the child born in the darkness of night in a lowly manger is revealed as the manifesta on (the meaning of epipha-ny) of God. Christ is revealed in many ways: as Lord, as King, as the one in whom God is present and acts. All of these manifesta ons are “lights” that shine on Christ, revealing who he is. Lights have played an im-portant role in today’s solemnity. You will see more lights today in the procession and around the altar—all of this to remind us that Christ is the Light of all Na-

ons! As we keep the memory of the visit of the Magi from the East, let us resolve to be lights for others—manifes ng the love and mercy of Christ himself in all that we say and do. In today’s bulle n you will find some important ar -cles about two liturgical ministries in need of more vol-unteers: the Usher Ministry and the Choir Ministry. We do have a large parish and as such there should be a good number of parishioners interested in these two ministries. Please read these ar cles and pray for the Spirit’s guidance. Is God calling you to serve in this way? Remember, we are called to be good stewards of our me, talent and treasure. Please save Sunday a ernoon, February 12th for a special Convoca on of the Parish. We have invited two Franciscan Sisters who will lead us in a conversa on to build up and enhance our life together as a cross-cultural parish. I know that you will find it very enjoya-ble and informa ve. Please make this convoca on a top priority! And finally, let’s get ready for a “rip roaring” evening of fun at our “Mardi Gras Casino Night” on Friday, Feb-ruary 17th! This will be a wonderful opportunity to play, share some delicious food and win fabulous prizes. Tickets go on sale this weekend! Let’s celebrate Mardi Gras together!

Have a great week! Love,

LAS MADRINAS ALTAR SOCIETY

Las Madrinas Altar Society will have their next mee ng on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Parish Dining Rm. All current members and anyone wishing to join this min-istry are welcome. Ques ons? Call Margaret Hernandez at 760-757-0882.

FR. VINCE CALLS FOR MORE SUNDAY MASS USHERS!

One of the most important liturgical ministries is the role of usher. The usher is the “official” host—someone whose presence, conversa on and ac ons speak a genu-ine desire that all who come to Mass or other liturgical events enjoy their me together. The crucial func on of the ushers ministry is welcoming, hos ng, crea ng an atmosphere conducive to the act of worship. The ushers also take up the offering and see to it that the Mass flows well and the members of the assembly are cared for. When we gather for Liturgy, “something important is going to happen.” This can be said in many ways, not the least of which is the presence of capable, poised and wel-coming ushers. At present, we are in a dras c need of more men and women to volunteer to serve in this role, especially at the English Masses. It takes many volunteers to make a par-ish this size func on well. Right now we are at a skeleton crew of ushers! And so, if you like people and would like to find out more informa on about this ministry, please do not hesitate to call Fr. Vince (760-547-0723). Thank you!

THE MINISTRY OF MUSIC IN OUR PARISH “BUILDING UP THE CHOIRS”

The renowned Benedic ne liturgical scholar, God-frey Diekmann, describes the Church as “the com-munity whom God has called, and who by prayer and worship answer him…Prayer, worship, is the chief task of the Church. So it is that by prayer that the Church becomes ever more what she is.” To enhance our liturgical life, we are calling more parishioners to give of their me and talent to the Music Ministry. We are especially in need of good and qualified singers at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday morn-ing Mass. The call to the Music Ministry falls to all of us. If you hear someone who sings well, you can say: “I no ce that you have a good voice and have some training in music; I think that you should consider being a member of our choir.” Or, if you like to sing, please consider joining the choir. It is my hope that more parishioners may volunteer to join the choir. Mission San Luis Rey has a long his-tory of liturgical prayer supported by beau ful mu-sic. So, come along, give your talent to the people of God! Have fun at the same me. For more infor-ma on, please contact Mr. Kerey Quaid at the parish office. (760-547-0709). Thank you, Fr. Vince

The famous Christ-mas story of the visit of the magi to the baby Jesus is foretold in Psalm 72, which re-veals how all na ons will pay the newborn king homage and pledge to serve him. We too are invited to hear the Good News of our Savior and use the gi s given to us in service to the Lord. At the beginning of this New Year it is appropriate to ask: Will we accept the Lord’s invita on to embrace His Gospel more fervently? What is it that we will do to serve the Lord more faithfully this year? How will we exercise stewardship over our own gi s to pro-claim the Good News?

8 | PARROQUIA MISION SAN LUIS REY, Oceanside, California - 8 de Enero de 2017

QUERIDOS AMIGOS,

¡Paz y Bien!
