    FROM THE PASTOR

As most of you know, the retrofit of the HistoricMission Church was supposed to be finished in Janu-ary. Now its May and the Historic Church is sll notopen. All of us are NOT happy. The actual retrofitwas finished on schedule in January, but then be-cause of some cost savings, it was decided to put innew light, security and sound systems. These threeaddions have taken an enormous amount ofme. You just can't go down to the local hardware storeand buy lighng fixtures for a historic church. Thento top it off, when they took the pews out and filledthe building with scaffolding, they discovered cracksin the arches supporng the dome. We had to call ina structural engineer and these problems were tak-en care of, but it delayed everything even longer. Ihave now been told that I can count on a definite

date for reopening the Historic Church: Saturday,June 15th 2013. Now, if some other problem arisesand they are sll not finished, I am opening thedoors anyway. Let us hope we are not all sing onfolding chairs in the dark when the Church reopens. Please know that I am just as frustrated as you thatthis project has taken so much addional me, butIm a person of hope and I actually believe we willbe open on June 15th.

Thank you for your paence and understanding. The historic church is a living part of our parish and Iwill be very happy when we can use it for liturgiesand prayer. Id also like to publicly thank Mike Pol-lack for his reless efforts and leadership on the ret-rofit project, as well as all those who contributedtheir me, talent and treasure to ensuring the His-toric Mission Church will connue to serve our com-munity for many years to come.

This week, I'd also like to give you an update onour Annual Catholic Appeal. This annual appeal fromthe Diocese supports many acvies and programs

in our community. Some examples are the Marriageand Family Life Ministry, Office of Catechecal Min-istry, Religious Vocaon Outreach and CatholicCharies that provide hope to those in need. Givingto the Annual Catholic Appeal helps us be in solidari-ty with the poor and less fortunate in our communi-ty. I am very pleased and happy to tell you that col-lecvely as a parish, we have reached our goal of

$64,000. This goal includes not only the paymentsalready made, but the pledges and online paymentsthat are ongoing. I appreciate all of those who havedonated already, and those of you who made pledg-es and connue to make payments on your pledges. If you have any quesons, please contact our newbookkeeper, Elizabeth Rose at 760-547-0711. I am

really proud that we have met this goal. Even whilewe somemes struggle financially, it's importantthat we connue to parcipate in the mission andwork of the greater church.

During this Easter Season, may you and your fam-ily connue to experience the joy and blessings ofthe Resurrected Christ.

PARISH LIBRARY BOOK REVIEWMy Soul Magnifies the LordBy Jeanne Kun

This excellently craed, biblically based portrait ofMary will warm the hearts of those who have longknown her and those who wonder who she is. Pernentcommentary on the Marian Scripture texts and probingquesons that explore the theme coupled with fine poet-ry and the wisdom of various Marian writers all contrib-ute to a study of Mary that is ideal for personal refleconas well as for use in RCIA and parish enrichment pro-grams.

Ahora es mayo y an no est abierta. Nosotrosno estamos contentos.
