    1. X.TEST 3000

    1.1 General

    X.TEST 3000 is the advanced software package for the test of:

    Protective relays;

    Energy meters;

    Transducers;

    Power Quality Meters.

    It controls all of the automatic test sets manufactured by I.S.A: DRTS, DRTS-3, DRTS-6, ART/3,

    ART/100, UTS.1 (32 bit), UTB.1 (32 bit). For detailed instrument specifications please refer to

    product data-sheets.

    X.TEST 3000 operates with all WINDOWS versions: 98; NT; 2000, XP, MI, by means of a PCconnected to the test set via an RS232 serial interface; from May 2004, also via the USB interface.

    Both manual and automatic control are available.

    X.TEST 3000 consists of 4 main applications:

    FULL ADVANCED PROTECTION AND MEASUREMENT;

    SPECIAL DISTANCE;

    SERVICES;

    PROGRAMMER, if ordered.

    The following paragraphs show the content of X.TEST 3000 software applications.

    NOTE: a DEMO disk is available; it includes all software packages.

    1.2 Full Advanced Protection and Measurement Software Package

    The Full Advanced Protection and Measurement Software Package can be used to test any

    protective relays in:

    1.5 Services

    These programs are always available.

    SERVICESUPGRADE Allows upgrading of the test sets resident software

    CALIBRATION Allows the calibration of the test set.

    SET COMM Sets the communication port

    UPGRADE

    Allows upgrading of the test sets resident software, for new releases or new enhancements.

    CALIBRATION

    It allows the calibration of the test set. The calibration can be performed following the instruction of

    the program and test set users manuals. DRTS.6 allows for the electronic calibration of all relevantparameters; other test sets are partly calibrated by trimmers and partly via software.

    SET COMM

    It allows to change the test set or define the default serial port.

    1.6 Programmers package

    Our customers have two choices for editing test programs for our range of test sets:

    EDITOR program any programming language that supports ActiveX technology, via an .OCX application

    called XTEST_X.

    The package includes RUN, for the execution of test programs edited by EDITOR.

    PROGRAMMEREDITOR Is a very user-friendly programming language for editing test

    programs

    RUN Executes test programs prepared by EDITOR

    EDITOR

    This unique software allows the editing of test programs for all type of protective relays, energy

    meters and transducers. Using EDITOR it is possible to create test programs or to modify existing

    test programs developed by ISA.

    EDITOR is menu driven and uses as few as 24 instructions, no specific programming skill is

    required.

    RUN

    It allows executing test programs prepared with EDITOR; besides, it allows to save and recall relay

    settings and results.

    We provide an OCX application (ActiveX) that allows controlling any Automatic Relay Test Set

    with high level languages, such as Visual Basic, Visual C++ or any other software that supports the

    ActiveX technology. This is particularly useful for integrating the test set control into existing

    software, that includes the control of other instruments, such as meters, converters and so on.

    1.7 Physical presentation

    X.TEST 3000 comes in CD-ROM format. Programs provided are defined at the order. Programs

    documentation is also on the CD-ROM, together with all I.S.A.s test sets documents, in three

    languages (English, French, Italian). Protection software package manuals are also provided in paper

    format.

    3. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

    3.1 Introduction

    Insert the disk in the CD-Rom drive and run SETUP.EXE: the following dialogue window is

    opened.

    A few seconds after, the program opens the following window.

  • 8/10/2019 MSE20060 - Xtest 3000

    13/21

    DOC. MSE20060 REV. 4.0.0 Page 13/21

    It is better to close other applications, as at the end of installation WINDOWS should be started

    again.

    Pressing Next , ISA TDMS terms and conditions are accepted.

    The operator should decide about the serial port to be used to control the test set. Be careful non to

    conflict with other programs. Press NEXT to continue; the following window is displayed.

  • 8/10/2019 MSE20060 - Xtest 3000

    14/21

    DOC. MSE20060 REV. 4.0.0 Page 14/21

    You can load company name and owners name. It is also possible to determine which user will be

    able to use the software on the target computer. From this moment the installation starts; next

    window is the following.

    Files are copied, the C:\XTEST directory is created with all related subdirectories. The Windows

    operating system is modified to allow the software run.

  • 8/10/2019 MSE20060 - Xtest 3000

    15/21

    DOC. MSE20060 REV. 4.0.0 Page 15/21

    If the C:\XTEST directory already exists, the program over-writes files with the same name, but

    does not delete other files in the directory.

    This process requires a few moments; at the end of this process, the following window is opened.

    If the user has only one type of test set, it is better to select it and leave unchecked the Ask model to

    user option. The choice is:

    . UTB (MICR-4 control card);

    . UTS 8 bit (MICR-4 control card);

    . UTS 32 bit (MICR-H control card);

    . ART/3: it is to be used also for UTB with the 32-bit (MICR-H) control card;

    . DRTS;

    . ART/100 (single phase);

    . DRTS.3;

    . DRTS.6.

    The first two selections refer to instruments UTB and UTS, with the MICR-4 control board (NOTE:

    THESE TWO TEST SETS ARE SUPPORTED ONLY BY X.TEST 2000). Third selection refers to

    UTS.1, with the MICR-H control board. Fourth selection refers to ART/3 (that uses the MICR-H

    control board), or to UTB.1, upgraded with the MICR-H control board. Fifth selection refers to the

    DRTS (that uses the MICR-H control board). Sixth selection refers to ART/100, the single-phase

    test set. Last selections refer to DRTS.3 and DRTS.6.

    ASK model is for the case that the user has more than one model: the program allows selecting the

    type of instrument as the program is started, otherwise it connects directly to the instrument.

    It is always possible to run the SetComm program and modify these selections if needed.

    16/21

    DOC. MSE20060 REV. 4.0.0 Page 16/21

    If the RS232 port is selected, the program also asks on which serial port the communication with the

    instrument will take place. If the USB port is selected, the question is not applicable.

    NOTE: if the RS232 interface is not available, it is possible to use either a PCMCIA to RS232

    converter, or an USB to RS232 converter, such as the model UC232A of the manufacturer

    MAXXTRO. Note that these converters are supported by WINDOWS REV. D up.

    After choosing the communication port, the installation completes with the following window

    If you have installed TDMS on a new computer, it is appropriate to install and identify at least one

    printer, otherwise it will not be possible to preview the reports in any program.

    After the program has been installed, if you want to use the USB interface, first of all you have to be

    the Administrator of the PC, otherwise the USB driver will not be installed. Then, connect your PC

    to the test set: as the USB interface is sensed, the following window pops up.

    Press Continue: the installation is completed; the test set can be controlled by the USB interface.

    During the installation of the driver, a message like "driver not Microsoft certified" or something

    similar may appear; if you refuse to install the driver, also our USB driver will not be installed

    The fact that the installation is good is confirmed by the following window.

    If there is an installation problem, the following error window is displayed.
