INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES AND TASKS

I will assess students’ prior knowledge on the importance of books and reading. The points to ponder would be …

What is the importance of books in our lives? Why do we need to read books? What are the library resources available to us? Do we have easy access to

reading material? I will apply various techniques to make reading interesting. A variety of books as per the child’s level of difficulty will be provided. It should be ensured that the child has access to a variety of reading materials

such as novels, magazines, comic strips, reference articles, news items, poems, mysteries, reports etc.

Shared reading and Guided Reading I will allocate a specific time for reading daily.

READING ENVIRONMENT- A DAILY ROUTINE

To improve the fluency, students need to develop their reading habit. In order to develop this habit we must allocate a specific time for reading daily. In fact, we must create a reading environment by asking everyone to read at a specific time of the day i.e. if it’s decided that daily the first 10 minutes of the “zero period” will be specified as the reading time, then everyone from the Head Mistress to the domestic staff should be reading some material, may be a book, newspaper or magazine at that specific time title of the activity;

Drop Everything And Read’

THE READING CLUBI will establish a Reading Club. The details are as follows: The reading teacher will advertise a lunch time reading club to students with

reading difficulties. A competition ,extrinsic reward for the best reading club poster and certificates can be given out during the assembly in order to publicize the event.

The importance of reading will be emphasized during assemblies in order to give it credibility and status

Badges will be given to the club member for feeling of pride, ownership and identification

Through power point presentation the message will be conveyed that all students are welcomed.

The Head Mistress can make regular visits & give her remarks in order to motivate the students. This will be valued because I believe that students should receive praise for attending & that they should recognize that the school values the importance of this club.

The students will have “Reading for Meaning” lessons on a weekly basis which will cover essential reading skills including cloze procedures, deduction, prediction, sequencing, comprehension and so on “Reading for Enjoyment” will be central to my work.

Merit certificates will be given to those completing set targets.

The Reading Room will offer peace and

harmony and provide a safe environment for the

students.

The atmosphere of the club will be less formal

than that of, the library e.g. seating arrangement

on the floor.

CONCLUSION

When I examine myself and my methods of thought, I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has meant more to me than any talent for abstract, positive thinking.
