“These students have awakened a greater sense of compassion and kindness in those who have had the opportunity to work directly with them.”

Julio Robaina, Mayor City of Hialeah, Florida

Increase Revenue According to a National Survey of Consumer Attitudes Towards Companies That Hire People With Disabilities, 92% of the American public view companies that hire people with disabilities more favorably than those that do not. And, 87% of the public would prefer to give their business to companies that hire people with disabilities. People with disabilities and their network, as reported by the U.S. Census, represent $1 trillion in discretion-ary spending.

Reduce Costs by expanding your access to talent. by avoiding productivity losses incurred from

unfilled positions. by reducing turnover. People with disabilities tend to stay with an employer longer. by creating more efficient work strategies, as evi-denced by Walgreens and A&F Woods Co., when they implemented accommodations for their workers with disabilities and experienced an over-all increase in productivity; by leveraging tax incentives to realize tax credits; and by creating a tax deduction to remove architec-tural and transportation barriers to people with disabilities and elderly individuals up to $15,000

Employee

Retention Hire Potential found that placements stayed on the job an average of 50% longer than those with-out disabilities. Marriott employees hired through their Pathways to Independence program experi-enced a 6% turnover, versus the 52% turnover rate of their overall workforce. Fortune magazine reported that after Carolina Fine Snacks, a small business in Greensboro, NC, started hiring people with disabilities, employee turnover dropped from 80% every six months to less then 5%, productivity rose from 70% to 95%, absenteeism dropped from 20% to less than 5%, and tardiness dropped from 30% of staff to zero.

“The students have been a tremendous help [..to the Project Search program] delivering excellent customer service to Zoo Miami’s guests. Several of the students have been offered employment opportunities after impress-ing our supervisors with their hard work ethic. We are very proud to have the Project Search students as a part of the Zoo Miami family!!”

Eric Kaminsky, Business Manager Miami-Dade County Park & Recreation Dept.
