MODERN WORLD HISTORYCORE ASSESSMENT #1: Case Study of Imperialized Country
Essential Questions for Project How have technology and exchange transformed societies and the human
experience? How did imperialism mutually affect the colonizer and the colonized world?
BackgroundIn the 19th Century, many industrialized countries took over the non-industrialized parts of the world. The resulting conquest changed the course of global history.
Assignment OverviewYou will be assigned two countries: 1. an imperial power that imperialized a less dominate power, 2. a country taken over by that power during the “Age of Imperialism.” You will create a case study of this relationship and document the information in an Interactive PowerPoint Presentation/Primary Source Product. The following areas should be researched:
Motives for Imperialismo What prompted the European power to take over the less dominate power?
(Examples: What resources did the power want? Were there geopolitical (include map), economic, social, and political reasons?)
Methods of Imperialismo In what ways did the imperial power take over and maintain control of the
imperialized nation? (Did they use violence? Was it a more peaceful takeover? Did the lesser power resist? Make sure to provide specific evidence (events, dates, major players, etc.)
Impact on Imperialized Nationo What were the geopolitical, economic, social, and political results of
imperialism in this country?
Final Products Interactive Power Point (or other comparable option at teacher discretion)
