Eat before you get thereTo help with over eating, eat before you get there. If your leaving from home this will work better. Have a small or snack packed with protein so that you will feel fuller longer. That way when you get to the party you won’t feel the need to make a full plate because you are so hungry from not eating since lunch time. Try vegetables with a hummus dip, apples and peanut butter, or nuts. Something so that when you get to the party you don’t feel like your stomach is going to eat itself. You could even go as far as making chicken or fish with a veggie if time permits.

Use a small plate and cover it with foodIf you weren’t able to eat before then here is a way to not fill up on the wrong foods. Some times when you got to a party there are different size plates that are used for appetizers or dessert. Use that plate for your “meal”. Cover half the plate with colorful assortment of vegetables,

fruit , or salad. A quarter of your plate with protein turkey, ham, or chicken. Then the other quarter with starches. Eat the veggie and fruit side first so that when you get to the other half you are slowing down because your getting full and even though those starches taste extremely good by the time you finish you will be full and not able to get seconds.

Green Tea is your friendThe benefits of green tea are amazing! One of the major ones is weight loss. Green Tea in-creases the metabloism. The Polyphenol found in green tea works to intensify levels of fat oxi-dation and the rate at which your body turns food into calories. Drinking tea before a meal will also make you feel full as well lessening the amount of food you eat.

Socialize If you concentrate more on visiting with the guests then your not as liking to keep eating, es-pecially if it is away from the food table. Social-izing standing up is better than sitting down and talking. Try to find ways to keep moving so that your body is burning calories. If its a dancing holiday party then great bust a move! The dance floor is a great way to burn off some of those calories you just consumed.

Don’t underestimate walkingIf you live in a area where public transportation is adequate get off a stop or two before your ac-tual stop so that you can walk home.Make sure the area is safe or you walk with some one. Wait at least 20 minutes after you have completed the meal because your body still has to digest the food and absorb the nutrition intake. Walking after dinner is a great two part step to weight loss. First it has all the benefits of a normal walk taken at anytime of the day and second it helps start digestion. If you live in a building with an elevator walk up or take the elevator half way. Even taking on the stairs at a slow pace is still benefiting you and getting that food di-gested.

Interactive TV/Computer timeWhile watching tv and spending time on com-puter take frequent breaks. During the commer-cials do squats, leg lifts, push ups, crunches etc. so that your not just sitting for long periods of time. Keep a pair of dumb bells under the couch so you can do bicep curls and arm raises. While watching t.v stretch. Stretching is a good stress and tension reliever. It also improves circula-tion, balance, coordination, and flexibility.

These are just a few tips to help you during the holidays. Don’t wait on the weight. You don’t need the first of the year to get the ball rolling, start now working out and eating healthy do take some effort and time. Think of adding days to your life with every healthy thing that you do. Find time in your schedule to do these small things make it a family affair. Go on a family walk after dinner, have a play date with your kids outside doing something active or inside somewhere doing something active. Not only are you spending quality time with your fam-ily but your teaching them the value of taking care of themselves. If you already hit the gym or workout on a regular then continue to do so. If you know your going to be doing some holiday eating then adjust your workouts to make up for that. But the key is balance if your eat good 85 to 90 percent of the time then the two or three big meals won’t make you gain 10 lbs over the holiday season.

When there are leftovers concentrate on taking the protein and veggies leave the starches for someone else to take home. If you hosted and there are tons of leftovers even after everyone has filled up their to go containers then take them to a shelter or go where there are home-less people and feed them. My younger brother is very concerned about feeding the homeless. Whenever we had major left overs he would heat them up and drive them straight downtown and give it to people that were literally sleeping under bridges. Remember the season is about giving not eating!

I hope that these tips find you in good health and if not then I hope they help get you there.

What’s good B.C. How are you? Just trying to keep consistency, I’m blessed beyond belief. Everyday is about being better than I was yesterday, so in doing that I become closer to my purpose of the music..being able to help my people in this world that struggle, needing strength & faith to get through. I have several influences that keep my motives sharp and intact. I feel as though everybody needs that with the world becoming so corrupt and weak. Its a real life horror movie now a days.. So I stay flying off those prayer planes.

What’s new since your last interview in Mr Dreamz magazine? Was 2012 a good year for you artistically? Since the last interview with Mr.Dreamz magazine, I’ve been dedicated to my craft more than anything. I linked up with a good friend of mines which also featured in a previous edition of the Mr.Dreamz Magazine “JayKid” a very talented artist from Port Allen, Louisiana. The year of 2012 was a year of growing pains, things happen in timing and I under-stood that the bigger picture wasn’t to far away from reach. Our manager Henry Jones has been pushing with us through a tough year. We received a lot of business notes from a respected friend Coudaril Echols, so do know that we’re far from uneducated about this industry.

What did you mainly release? Jaykid and I mainly released sample letting the fans know change had arrived. When your going against the grain instead of teaming with it, its confusing on if what we doing should be accepted by the fans and

listeners, so 2012 was just the year to break down the nay sayers and doubters. Which, I feel we did a excellent job of now its GO TIME!

What was the fan’s feedback? Honestly, there were mixed reviews on the music we created. Everybody has an opinion just like everybody think they can cook, everybody thinks they know music and how it should be, Kid and I stuck to our guns and ultimately made music that people grew to love and respect because it was done our way rather than just another artist trying to mimic

How did you hook up with «JAYKID» your music partner? Is DROPOUT your duo name? Why? I met Kid back at McNeese State University quite a few years before we linked up musically, we played ball in gym against each other, both talented (We have a video explaining how that went on our Youtube page for those that care to know who won) and determined to do and be great. Jaykid is a artist I saw grow, a very down to earth real person with multi abilities. We originally were fans of one another. Yes, the group name is DropOut.. it symbolizes many things, the obvious meaning is we both dropped out of McNeese with two real reasons. The reason that really gave DropOut life is when we chose to not do music in the clone format like many artist you hear on the radio, that’s a race we chose not to run instead we dropped out, and are now 1,000,000,000,000, miles an running full speed to the finish line the way Hip-Hop started with originality.

DROPOUT

“Just giving the world a glimpse of what its like to grind without the drugs we both actually work a 9 to 5 paying for studio time, driv-ing hours away to the studio and making it back home just to go to work.”

12

Page 13: MR DREAMZ FRESH SUGAKAYNE

What are your projects for 2013? We have our first studio album & mix-tape coming out this year! As well the DropOut documentary, just giving the world a glimpse of what its like to grind without the drugs we both actually work a 9 to 5 paying for studio time, driving hours away to the studio and making it back home just to go to work. Its real, but God has been an awesome God to us so we know its worth it. Its about to pay off.

Can you tell us more about the new single RAIN? The brains behind “Rain” ( which can be bought on Itunes & Google Play-store is Jaykid himself. He already had the song laced all I had to do is put a verse on it. The concept of the song is basically the underdog’s emotion being brought to life in song. The bills piling up,lack of loyalty from peo-ple, not feeling accomplished, and so on... The fan response to “Rain” has been phenomenal. Although it was a HUGE track we’ve already wrote at least 5 more,we feel are better.

Do yall plan a video for that song? We’ve had meetings discussing the “Rain” video however there has not been a finalizing moment. I will say this however for video updates be sure to check us out on YouTube @BcandJaykidtv there you can find other videos and songs where we interact giving supporters a insight on DropOutMusiq, you can follow us on twitter @DropOutMusiq,as well as facebook DropOut.

What can we wish you for that 2013 year ?:-) All we want is to be able to wake up and do music for a living to be hon-est. That feeling knowing we can be in the studio ALL day just creating music with a purpose, music that touches the heart of the right person at the right time igniting a chain reaction in ones life. A major label deal would be awesome, but the RIGHT deal will be even better. The right deal being one that isn’t trying to turn us into robots and go against what we stand for as well being a deal that allows us to be financially stable to provide answers to the questions of need. I heard in church today Faith is now, Hope is later.. So I have faith that the deal is already ours, God has taken care of us. 2013 will be epic,i’m stoked just thinking about it. Our cities (DeRidder & Port Allen, Louisiana) hardly gets a good representa-tion if any, 2013 this year we change that. A special thanks to both our families and friends for the support!! When you see us on the Grammys just know we worked hard for it and that we will return all the love in which was received!! Interview by Winnie MC

MR DREAMZ MAGAZINE PRESENTS: TENZA... THE JAMAICAN POP TOUCH!

14

Hailing from Kempshot of Montego Bay, Jamaica, is a musical angel in disguise. Born and raised in a family of fifteen, which consisted of nine brothers and 5 sisters. Tenza grew up in a life of struggle and disappointment so she certainly knows how to appreciate all of her blessings that she has been given, and her musical talent was definitely one of those blessings not taken for granted. Tenza left Jamaica when she was only fourteen to reside in the United King-dom, in the town of Slough. For Tenza it was one of the most difficult times of her life, leaving all her friends and family, to begin a whole new life in Eng-land. At first Tenza found it hard adjusting to the new culture, especially in school. As time went on, Tenza started to make new friends when she attend-ed the Slough Youth Centre music classes. She then felt at home as she recon-nected with her passion, which is music. Tenza began attending dance class-es, singing classes and entering competitions, put on by the slough youth centre. Tenza has always retained a strong passion for Dancehall and Reggae music that was so prominent in her life. Living the life she lived back in Jamaica, it was the empowering and highly uplifting sounds of Bob Marley, Yellow Man, Beres Hammond, Bounty Kill-er, Denis Brown, Lady Saw, Super Cat and Beenie Man that were a big influence in her musical career. Positive guidance from management and mentor’s such as, Errol Fenton, Douglas Gregory, James Williams and Mr Othman Muhklis, is what kept her faith and hope strong, throughout all the years of trying to make it, and become what she has become today. Overcoming many obstacles, Tenza’s skills had created an opportunity for her to become a member of the electric trio ‘Fya’ - the formerly Def Jam signed female dancehall group. ‘Too Hot’ and ‘Must Be Love’ being a couple of the many Gold selling hits ‘Fya’ released. Tenza has now re-launched her musical career as a solo artist, successfully touring France, Sweden and a number of countries in wider Europe and have appeared on a number of musi-cal festivals in the UK over the past year.

THE JAMAICAN TOUCH!

She has now released her first official single “No Behaviour” which is taken from her al-bum “TENZA PON DEM ENDZ AGAIN.”The single, produced by Dolamite of Suncycle production, has been moving very swiftly up the musical charts, and is enjoying heavy ro-tation on Fm and internet radios in Jamaica, Japan, and across the globe since its release. Tenza is set to release her debut solo album entitled “Wicked Like Me”, which will feature productions from top Jamaican and European producers, with col-laboration from the likes of Macca Diamond and Terro 3000 and many more, that’s just a taste of what is to come from the hugely anticipated solo album. Tenza has a natural talent for success, with her never say never attitude, she has launched her own clothing line “Rasta Fetish” and has set up her own official recording label “TMD RECORDS”. she successfully completed an anti gun and anti knife school tour, where she educates young chil-dren about the ongoing crime and violence that is taking place in our schools and communities. Tenza’s skills and talents include singing, song writing and composing. Tenza also oper-ates a full-service recording studio for her own work, as well as a few younger sing-ers and producers she’s been working with, to give them a good start in the music business. Tenza’s work has been chronicled in newspapers such as the Jamaica star, Ja-maica observer and numerous Internet sites and magazines from around the world. She now has her sight set on 2013, with shows already booked in Africa, Europe and the Car-ibbean, to couple with the success of her now hit single “No Behaviour”. One can expect to see a lot more from this young and energetic Reggae/Scoa/Artist, as Tenza plans to continue making good music for every musical ear,”With a clear deliverance, Tenza spreads a Univer-sal messages of Truth, Love and Righteousness.”

To let our readers know who is the real Sugakayne...As a kid, what were some of your life-changing moments that get you into music? The Real SugaKayne is a music junkie haha. My whole world pretty much revolves around music. Some life changing mo-ments were living in Baton Rouge, LA. We were poor so we were in the center of the hood - right off of Keel Ave. That’s where I was exposed to the hood/ grimey element of rap music.Another moment was when I was in college - I used to follow behind his group of guys from New Jersey and plus during that time is when I was exposed to the lyricism of rap music. Prob-ably the most important was when I was out of jail and me and my cousin Shadow P decided to seriously pursue music - so we formed S2 ENTertainment and ran from there.

How long have you been seriously in the music industry?I’ve been serious about music since 2006. I had been recording for about 2 years by that time and had been just freestyling with friends playing around since about 1998 or ‘99. 2006 was when I started to believe that success in music was actually possible.

Is it your full time job?Yes it is. My whole world is surrounded by it.

Can you describe us your first impressions when you leave Nigeria and land in America... Were you surprised by that change?I was still pretty young but I’ve been back home a couple of times so I can definitely say even as an adult it was a culture shock. I always go home 1 way and come back to America a totally different way. It’s always humbling going home or even just keeping up with my cousins through social media or calling.

Page 19: MR DREAMZ FRESH SUGAKAYNE

Since you left Nigeria, have you ever been back there?Yeah I’ve been back a few times. When I first left it was almost 14 years before I got to go back home because I was a kid and we were having VISA problems. Plus we were crazy poor so we couldn’t afford it.

Despite a really quiet & clean youth, far from the crime... You finally fell under bad influences some years later... What did happen? The best way to describe it would be that I was going through anidentity crisis. I knew how to act but all the cool kids were doingsomething and, coming from being teased and ridiculed so much for being different in their eyes, I wanted to be cool too. So I started doing stupid stuff - stealing, robbing, money laundering etc. Nothing to brag or be proud of but it happened. If I saw some-thing I thought was cool or dope I wanted to follow the style of what that was and do right or wrong. It messed with me growing up in a Nigerian home and things run 1 way but you go to school/public and see things way different than what you’re accustomed to. In that house it was like being raised in Nigeria which as an adult I’m grateful for because it’s benefited me as an adult. But my parents were immigrants and were being protective so in a way me and my parents grew up in America together.

One of your biggest injury was the death of your true friend Imani. Can you introduce her to our readers?Imani was my everything. We had a special relationship. I met herthrough some family friend in Hattiesburg, MS. We hit it off im-mediately. There was always chemistry there but we never acted

IMANI...“SHE WAS MY EVERYTHING”

19

Page 20: MR DREAMZ FRESH SUGAKAYNE

on it but there was a strong love there. She was my introduction to music. She made me realize I loved music way more than just listening to it.

You call her your «Lifeline».Your relationship with her was closely linked to music. Why?We used to sit and talk about music for hours. We liked the same kind of music but for different reasons at the time. We were both huge Wu-Tang fans. I liked them because the music was gritty and street. She liked them because they were dope lyricists. So I would always freestyle with her on the phone and she heard potential in my freestyling. I was kinda lyrical without knowing I was. She would always tell me “you hear the lyrics but you’re not LISTENING to the lyrics”. So from then on she kinda trained me to pay at-tention to the lyrics and make sure my pen game was fierce - which is what I did -thanks to her.

From pain to... Prison... Share with us that ex-perience & how did your personality & music change?Jail was a wild ride. It did me some good though because it slowed me down. I was in a bad space. After Imani died I didn’t really pay too much at-tention to music anymore. I was just reckless &

tention to music anymore. I was just reckless & didn’t care about much or anybody. I questioned everything from my faith to as far as whether I wanted to actually live or not. I was in a bad state of mind so I was looking toward other religions for help thinking the Catholic religion I was raised in wasn’t where I should be. The Qu’ranwas what I found. A big reason for that was be-cause Imani was Muslim too. It’s crazy but 1 night in jail I had a dream that I spoke to Imani and she basically talked me into picking up the pen again. The next day I picked up the pen and started writing music and started trying to get into battles with other cats in there. But after I spoke to her, I also found my religion again so her talking to me got me back in line.

«What doesnt kill you makes you stronger» can fit perfectly your story no ?I think I’m the human form of that phrase haha-ha. I haven’t even spoke on some of other stuff that went on in my life but I can definitely attest to that phrase.

Did you get the interest of other major labels before? No. Nobody really wanted to deal with me until I put out the 1st Anointed mixtape in 2009. It generated a tiny buzz and a bunch of downloads but nobody was really looking my way. I didn’t put out the 2nd Anointed mixtape until April 2012 so I lost alot of that steam. But this year I actually attracted a couple A&R’s, large promo companies & got to rub shoulders with a bunch of industry people. Hard work + determination = results.

That’s so impressive to create such a big buzz being an indie solo artist? What’s your secret? My strategy is just to work & keep pumping out music. But while you’re pumping out mu-sic make sure you got your business right too. It was a gift and a curse because I always thought I would get signed & become big over night. The more I worked and built a core fan base the more I realized it’s better for me to go this route. I know my business side of it now. The artist part is natural to me. So I’ve learned and done every-thing out of necessity - not necessarily becauseI planned to be indie but it’s the best thing that could’ve happened.

Page 21: MR DREAMZ FRESH SUGAKAYNE

Who is the team behind SUGAKAYNE’s movement?the team is S2 ENTertainment. It’s run by me and my cousin Shadow P out of Chicago. Him and his production partner KP are in house producers Pulling Stringz for the label. They’ve produced some of my best work. My other cousin aKa who is one of the best lyricist I’ve ever heard. He’ll be large in this game REAL soon. A&R Nate Blanchfield who has been one of my BIGGEST supporters since 2006 when I got serious about this. Also my folk Trey Petrose who is like my consultant/P.R. - I bounce alot of ideas off of him and my homie Bishop Morris out Milton, FL. We always have convo on the next project/move - that young dude keeps me motivated to work. And super producer Vay Mega who actually took me under his wing fresh out of jail and taught me how to structure a song and actually be an artist. n shout out to ma dawg Wood Roe - he’s 1 one of my top 5-10 artists ever. No lie. Him & Vay are major reasons for me even being in this position.

Now it’s time for your first official video ! Tell us more...Yeah the 1st video is for the “Merciless” track off this ILLuminati project. It’s hella dope. The

track was produced by my dudes Sonicoustics - that’s my man Code E Keyz n Psy Fidelity. I’ve known Keyz for over 17 yrs so we go way back. The music always came natural for us. But the video is hella dope. Me and Trey Petrose are going to be directing these videos ourselves w/the editing by my girl K’yon Hollis. The visual piece really does justice for the fans that have only heard the track. You can check it out at sugakayne.net or youtube.com/TheSugaKayne. We’ll have about 1-2 more vids up by the time the mixtape drops in March.

ILLuminati… What is the concept behind that new tape?I wanted to give the fans a different side of me. Most other tracks they’ve heard me on have been more introspective and kind of thought provok-ing. The thing is I’m complex when it comes to music - I’ve been influenced by everything from Common and Talib Kweli to NWA & 2 Live Crew. So with this project I wanted to give them a more aggressive side. They’ve heard glimpses of it from other projects but this is a full length project of it. It’s still me but this one is more hard-hitting and aggressive but still keeping the base which is lyricism & good creative themes.

That’s where the ILL comes from.

How did you choose it and what does it really mean?I chose it because I wanted to have a name that reminded me of Nigeria. One thing I’ve known about home is there is alot of sugar cane there. I wanted a name that meant something to me & represented home whenever I said it or heard it. I’ve carried this name since even before I did music - I just had it as a nickname.

Any particular message for all the Mr Dreamz magazine readers?I wanna thank everyone for the support of S2 ENTertainment. I can’t stress that enough. Thank you for believing in SugaKayne. A big shout to Mr Dreamz mag for the opportunity I can’t thank you enough.
