The Mounds Park Academy Early Childhood Education Program is designed to provide
a flexible, family-friendly educational foundation for ages 3½-5 year olds that supports
the intellectual, emotional and social needs of children in a positive and nurturing

natural curiosity by facilitating the education of the whole child.
EARLY CHILDHOOD AT MPA
Our PreSchool and PreK Educational Goals and Philosophy:
A deep commitment to young children and families.
We kindle a delight in learning and focus intently on the development and education of the whole child.
We provide a classroom environment where each child is valued and where warm, nurturing relationships are evident.
We address all areas of the young learner including cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development.
We plan a relevant curriculum that provides structure as well as flexibility in responding to the needs of individual children.
We present academic concepts in an integrated and embedded fashion.
We provide a safe, collaborative, and engaging environment.
We provide parents with feedback and assessment regarding their child on a regular basis.
We develop emerging literacy skills and offer exposure to a wide base of quality children’s literature.
We integrate Design Thinking concepts into our curriculum to encourage our youngest students to exercise creativity in problem solving .

Our PreSchool program was developed for 3½–5 year olds as a flexible option to fit the differing
needs of families. Students attend school for full days, but flexible scheduling options allow families
to write their own schedule ranging from two to five days per week. PreSchool students can also
attend Panther Club, our fun, safe and educational before and after school care program available
each day from 7:30 AM–5:30 PM. Our PreSchool classroom focuses on joyfully educating the whole
child and introducing your young student to a wide variety of academics including Math, English,
Science, Reading, Writing and specialities like Art, Music, Physical Education, and Technology.

The MPA PreK program is designed to be the year before Kindergarten and is for children who are
at least 4 years old by September 1st of the academic year. Our philosophy is rooted in the National
Association for Young Children’s guidelines for developmentally appropriate practice. Each child’s
developmental level is respected and instruction is geared toward the individual’s needs. Social and
emotional development and group skills are shaped by guided play and group participation.
