Start your fishing and sailing adventure from our home base at Ibo Island in the Quirimbas Archipelago. Be prepared to get up before the sun to make the 7-8 hour trip to the atoll to be able to start fishing at midday!

Chat to your skipper and crew about how long you intend to stay on the Banks. This will depend on your specific booking and time available, prevailing ocean and climate conditions and all other guests who accompany you. Safety is our first priority and the Captain decides when to leave the Banks should condition change.

Fishing at St Lazarus Bank is best from August to January when the rare and huge shoals of Mantis Shrimp appear suddenly to breed.

Over years the average fish caught in a day number up to 70 game fish. On the hardest fishing days, clients have still managed to land 20 fish between at least 5 anglers. These include your tuna, Wahoo, Grouper, Green and Rosy Jobfish, Kingfish, Barracuda and Sailfish. We have seen several methods used to land such beauties – vertical jigging, casting plugs and spoons, running live baits and trolling Rapala type lures. Even fast sinking lines help our anglers hook Dogtooth tuna! If you believe in fishermen’s Heaven, then this must be it.

Galley & SaloonThe Maxim sports the kind of saloon you never want to leave – picture easy leather upholstered chairs, a flat screen TV and DVD player, stereo and music system. Have fun! Our talented chefs prepare delicious cuisine in the roomy galley which comes complete with microwave, fridge and freezer, hot and cold water and a propane burning oven and stove.

Fly Bridge Five people can sit out and watch the landscape glide by, cocktails in hand. Enjoy the full walk-around fly bridge deck with its 2 corner seats. You can get to the front directly down to the coach roof and trampoline area or to the cockpit.

Yacht Systems and InstrumentationAlong with all the vital electronics equipment all yachts require, our Maxim also carries emergency satellite phone communications systems. Plug sockets for 12 V and 220 V are kept in the main saloon and each cabin. There is a generator and solar panels to provide much-needed energy. We make sure we carry category A offshore life jackets, life rafts and safety gear.

SpaceFeel free to move around in the spacious cabins, saloon and rear cockpit area, the front trampoline being a highlight for intrepid clients. The Fly Bridge is great for those breath-taking sunsets! You can find time alone during your cruise, there is no doubt about it. Conventional Fishing The Maxim is your ideal fishing vessel thanks to her out-riggers. Your fishing dreams can come true when you try a bit of jigging and popping, or trawling and sports fishing for Broadbill.

Fly FishingThis motorised yacht lacks the rigging most sailing vessels come with so you can cast your line straight from the main decks or from the extended stern platform. You can also throw a line from the two water-level dive and swim platforms. The 20-foot skiff is perfect for all kinds of fishing.

Fishing & Diving Support VesselsWe bring you a variety of choices when you fish with us. Your Maxim Cat is escorted by two 18-foot Panga motor boats/skiffs, completely geared for fishing and fly-fishing. They are also used for our keen scuba divers.

Scuba DivingDivers get their dive tanks, compressors, weight belts and dive gear on board if they are certified. We like to keep this gear for casual divers or as backup so we do prefer it if pro divers bring their own soft gear.
