Diane Barnes, Lisbon’s New Town manager sends this greeting: “On behalf of the Lisbon Town Council, we are delighted to welcome you to the 32nd annual Moxie Festival to celebrate with us ‘all things Moxie.’ We hope you and your family have a wonderful experience at this year's event.”

T he fe st i v a l c om m it te e h a s worked hard all year to bring you this festival. People visit from all over the country to witness where “Moxie” is celebrated during the three-day annual event. This is an opportunity for those to reunite with fellow classmates, friends and family members who they don’t get to see but once a year as well as a chance to drink the beverage they so enjoyed as a kid.

This year’s festival theme is “It’s Always Moxie Season in Maine” which you w i l l see displayed t h r ou g hout M a i ne’s l a r g e s t parade. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, led by Grand Marshall Rick Belhumeur, organizer of Spirit of the Wolf Pow Wow. Also new to the parade this year will be the L.L. Bean Boot mobi le. Returning is t he 70-member Lakeside Lutheran Warrior Band from Lake Mills, Wisconsin.

The 2014 Spirit of the Wolf Pow Wow at Lisbon High School has been canceled due to personal reasons. We would like to thank Rick Belhumeur and recognize him

for bringing us the Spirit of the Wolf Pow Wow to the Moxie Festival for so many years.

This year we have extended the fest iva l w it h t hese t hree new events:

1. A Moxie Carnival, which opens f rom 5 : 30-10 p.m. T hu rsday, July 10, at Don’s Automotive on Capital Avenue just off Rt. 196; it r uns t hroug h Sunday, Ju ly 13. Kavanaugh Amusements is a family-ow ned and operated c a r n i v a l . A l l m e m b e r s o f management are highly visible and very hands-on at all events. Kavanaugh is proud to provide a clean, friendly and affordable env ironment for famil ies and children of all ages and since 2010, Kavanaugh Amusements has been based out of Pittston, Maine.

2. Moxie All Maine Triple-Header Vintage Base Ball Game will be

held at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Goddard Field (Lisbon High School).

3. Moxie Bike Rally starting at Crafts Cars, at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12.

No worries, as the regular events will be back. Friday’s activities include: JLD Project at MTM, Moxie Recipe Contest at Chummy’s Mid-Town Diner along with the Bath Municipal Band, Touch-A-Truck and Auction at LHS, Fireworks. Sat u rday’s act iv it ies include : Moxie 5K Race, vendors along Main Street, Petting Zoo and Pony Rides once again will be at MTM, and let’s not forget the Moxie Concert in the Park featuring “SCARAB...The Journey Experience” from 6-8 p.m.. Sunday w il l include the 16th annual Chief Worumbo Androscoggin River Race. This is only a sample of the festivities. Moxie Festival history in brief

According to Lisbon Public Safety Officials, an estimated 50,000 people attend the three-day Moxie Festival

which will take place July 11-13, 2014. The town of Lisbon has approximately 9,300 residents.

Since 1982, The Moxie Festival http://moxiefestival.com/ in Lisbon, Maine has been held on the second weekend in July.

The Festival now includes a 4-day Carnival, Friday night Recipe Contest, f ireworks; a Saturday parade, Moxie Day 5K Race, Moxie Bike Rally, Chug-n-Challenge, Moxie Concert in the Park, Moxie Vintage Base Ball Game, and Family Fun Fair; and on Sunday, the Chief Worumbo Androscoggin River Race, Moxie Car Show and much more!

Moxie was designated Maine’s official soft drink on May 20, 2005.

New events at this year's Moxie FestivalThree new entertainment venues will join the Moxie Festival this year: a four-day Carnival, a Vintage Baseball double-header on Saturday evening; and a 30- or 50-mile Bike Rally on Saturday morning.

The Kavanaugh Amusement Carnival will open Thursday, July 10, at Don’s Automotive, Capital Avenue just off of Rt. 196. It will continue through Sunday, with rides, games, food and other activities for all ages.

Thursday, 5:30-10 p.m. closing: Enjoy Moxie Festival special pricing of a $16 bracelet for unlimited rides; individual tickets sold also.

Friday, 5:30-11 p.m. closing.No bracelets needed, tickets only.

Saturday, noon-11 p.m. closing. No bracelets needed, tickets only.

Sunday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. closing: Enjoy Moxie Festival special pricing of a $16 bracelet for unlimited rides; individual tickets sold also.

There will be 10-12 rides along with various games and food vendors. Family-owned and operated for 35 years, Kavanaugh Amusements offers games that are family-friendly.

On Saturday, July 12, the Moxie Day 30- and 50-mile Bike Rally begins at 8:30 a.m. rain or shine at Crafts Cars on Route 196 and ends at the Railroad Diner in Lisbon Falls. The first 50 registratants will receive commemorative mugs ($25 preregistration and $30 day of race).

Bring a lawn chair on Saturday, July 12, to watch Maine’s Vintage Base Ball teams play a free double-header at Goddard Field at Lisbon High School. Vintage Base Ball is about reliving America’s favorite past time as it was played during its formative years in the nineteenth century and other historic eras.

Vintage Base Ball teams across the country play in accordance with the rules, equipment, uniforms, field specifications, customs, practices, language, and behavioral norms of the period.

8 p.m. Game 2 – Rematch with fans (Free)

Parade participantsThe Moxie Day parade on Sat., July 12 begins at 10 a.m. It attracts over 100 units including miniature ponies, Kora units, Moxie floats, historic Moxie vehicles, and dancers. The parade begins at Capital Avenue, travels down Rt. 196 and up Main Street before concluding at the MTM Center on School Street.

The 70-member Lakeside Lutheran Warrior band from Wisconsin will participate at the 2014 Moxie Festival Parade.

Moxie Recipe Contest: Moxie lovers from near and far make food taste better by adding Moxie soda to the mix. The categories are Appetizers, Salads, Dressings, Sauces; Main Dishes, Meat Dishes, Casseroles; and Desserts, Pies, Pastries. Recipe judging will begin promptly at 5 p.m. at C hu m my's M id-Tow n Diner.

Saturday, July 12

· Moxie Day 5K: The 19th annual Moxie Day 5K Road Race begins at 7:30 a.m. rain or shine near Lisbon High School. It is an early and quick scenic run through

the outskirts of Lisbon Falls. T he route i ncludes t wo steep upgrades, one at the start and the second at the two-mile mark. The $15 pre-registration and $20 day-of-race fee includes a free Moxie 5K race t-shirt. At 7 a.m., the Moxie 5K Kids Fun Run will take place at Gazebo Park across f rom Lisbon High

School and the cost is $5. See map on page 5

· Moxie Chugging Challenge: T h e M o x i e C h u g g i n g Challenge is not for the faint of heart or esophagus. If you can’t hold your Moxie, this is not a challenge for you. If, however, you aspire to gastronomic greatness, t h e c h e e r s o f a m a z e d crowds, a nd t he t it le of “Moxie Chugging Challenge C ha mpion,” here’s w hat you’l l need to do: Be one of the first five chuggers to arrive at the Main Street Stage at 1:30 p.m. and pay the $5 entry fee. Chugging starts at 2 p.m.

· Moxie Concert in the Park. Bring a lawn chair and rock at the Park: “SCARAB ... The Journey Experience” from

6-8 p.m. at The Pavilion at the MTM Center on School St r e e t i n L i sb on Fa l l s . “SC A R A B ... The Journey Experience” is the closest re-creation you will see to the group of the 1970s and 80s. This internationally touring tribute act performs a two-plus hour concert with all the sights, sounds and of course songs, that made Journey famous.

Sunday, July 13

Moxie Car Show: The Moxie Car Show will take place in the fields behind Lisbon High School on Route 196 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Spectator ad m ission is $ 5, $ 3 for

children 12-17, and children under 12 are free. There is an entry fee of $10 for the driver and passenger.

· 1 6 t h a n n u a l C h i e f Wor u mbo A nd roscog g i n R iver Race : Reg ist rat ion is $30 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under i f reg istered by end-of-business Tuesday, July 8. The registration fee includes a t-shirt, lunch, and free shuttle service. The Worumbo Race is an amateur competition of approximately six miles, with possible class I rips and easy class II rapids, depending on water levels on race day. The race which begins at 9 am ata the Durham Boat Launch is a family friendly event come watch the racers f inish at 11:30 am and enjoy a Moxie pulled pork sandwich at the Sabattus River Boat Launch in Lisbon. See map on page 5.
