LIMITED TWO YEAR WARRANTY ON CRAFTSMAN POWER MOWER

For two years from date of purchase, when this Craftsman Lawn Mower is maintained,lubricated, and tuned up according to the operating and maintenance instructions in theowner's manual, Sears will repair free of charge any defect in material or workmanship.

If this Craftsman Lawn Mower is used for commercial or rental purposes, this warrantyapplies for only 90 days from the date of purchase.

This Warranty does not cover:• Expendable items which become worn during normal use, such as rotary mower

blades, blade adapters, belts, air cleaners and spark plug.• Repairs necessary because of operator abuse or negligence, including bent crank-

shafts and the failure to maintain the equipment according to the instructions con-tained in the owner's manual.

Warranty service is available by returning the Craftsman power mower to the nearest SearsParts & Repair Center in the United States. This warranty applies only while this productis used in the United States.

This Warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights whichvary from state to state.

I. GENERAL OPERATION

• Read, understand, and follow allinstructions on the machine and in the

manual(s) before starting. Be thoroughlyfamiliar with the controls and the properuse of the machine before starting.

• Do not put hands or feet near or underrotating parts. Keep clear of the dis-charge opening at all times.

• Only allow responsible individuals, whoare familiar with the instructions, to oper-ate the machine.

• Clear the area of objects such as rocks,toys, wire, bones, sticks, etc., whichcould be picked up and thrown by blade.

• Be sure the area is clear of other peoplebefore mowing. Stop machine if anyoneenters the area.

• Do not operate the mower when bare-foot or wearing open sandals. Alwayswear substantial foot wear.

• Do not pull mower backwards unlessabsolutely necessary. Always look downand behind before and while movingbackwards.

• Never direct discharged material towardanyone. Avoid discharging materialagainst a wall or obstruction. Materialmay richochet back toward the opera-tor. Stop the blade when crossing gravelsurfaces.

• Do not operate the mower withoutproper guards, plates, grass catcher orother safety protective devices in place.

• See manufacturer's instructions for

proper operation and installation ofaccessories. Only use accessories ap-proved by the manufacturer.

• Stop the blade(s) when crossing graveldrives, walks, or roads.

• Stop the engine (motor) whenever youleave the equipment, before cleaning themower or unclogging the chute.

• Shut the engine (motor) off and wait untilthe blade comes to complete stop beforeremoving grass catcher.

• Mow only in daylight or good artificiallight.

• Do not operate the machine while underthe influence of alcohol or drugs.

• Never operate machine in wet grass.Always be sure of your footing: keep afirm hold on the handle; walk, never run.

• Disengage the self-propelled mech-anism or drive clutch on mowers so

equipped before starting the engine.• If the equipment should start to vibrate

abnormally, stop the engine (motor) andcheck immediately for the cause. Vibra-tion is generally a warning of trouble. 3

• Always wear safety goggles or safetyglasses with side shields when oper-ating mower.

II. SLOPE OPERATION

Slopes are a major factor related to slip &fall accidents which can result in severe

injury. All slopes require extra caution. Ifyou feel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it.

DO:

• Mow across the face of slopes: neverup and down. Exercise extreme cautionwhen changing direction on slopes.

• Remove obstacles such as rocks, treelimbs, etc.

• Watch for holes, ruts, or bumps. Tallgrass can hide obstacles.

DO NOT:

• Do not trim near drop-offs, ditches orembankments. The operator could losefooting or balance.

• Do not trim excessively steep slopes.• Do not mow on wet grass. Reduced

footing could cause slipping.

III. CHILDREN

Tragic accidents can occur if the operatoris not alert to the presence of children.Children are often attracted to the ma-

chine and the mowing activity. Never as-sume that children will remain where youlast saw them.

• Keep children out of the trimming areaand under the watchful care of another

responsible adult.• Be alert and turn machine off if children

enter the area.

• Before and while walking backwards,look behind and down for small children.

• Never allow children to operate themachine.

• Use extra care when approaching blindcorners, shrubs, trees, or other objectsthat may obscure vision.

IV. SAFE HANDLING OF GASOLINE

Use extreme care in handling gasoline.Gasoline is extremely flammable and thevapors are explosive.• Extinguish all cigarettes, cigars, pipes

and other sources of ignition.• Use only an approved container.• Never remove gas cap or add fuel with

the engine running. Allow engine tocool before refueling.

• Never refuel the machine indoors.• Never store the machine or fuel contain-

er where there is an open flame, sparkor pilot light such as a water heater oron other appliances.

• Neverfill containersinsidea vehicle,ona truck or trailerbed with a plastic liner.Alwaysplacecontainerson the groundawayfrom yourvehiclebeforefilling.

• Removegas-poweredequipmentfromthe truck or trailer and refuel it on theground. If this is notpossible,thenrefuel suchequipmentwith a portablecontainer,ratherthan from a gasolinedispensernozzle.

• Keepthe nozzle in contactwith the rimof the fuel tank or containeropeningatall times until fueling is complete. Donot use a nozzle lock-opendevice.

• If fuel is spilled on clothing,changeclothing immediately.

• Neveroverfillfuel tank. Replacegascap and tightensecurely.

V. GENERAL SERVICE• Neverrun a machine insidea closed

area.• Nevermakeadjustmentsor repairswith

the engine (motor) running.Disconnectthe sparkplug wire,and keepthe wireawayfrom the plug to preventaccidentalstarting.

• Keepnuts and bolts,especiallybladeattachmentbolts, tight and keepequip-ment in goodcondition.

• Nevertamperwith safetydevices.Checktheir properoperationregularly.

• Keepmachinefree of grass, leaves,orotherdebrisbuild-up.Cleanoil or fuelspillage.Allowmachineto cool beforestoring.

• Stopand inspectthe equipmentif youstrikean object.Repair, if necessary,beforerestarting.

• Neverattemptto makewheelheightadjustmentswhile the engine is running.

• Grasscatchercomponentsaresubjectto wear, damage,and deterioration,which couldexposemovingpartsorallowobjectsto be thrown.Frequentlycheckcomponentsand replacewithmanufacturer'srecommendedparts,when necessary.

• Mowerbladesare sharp and cancut.Wrap the blade(s)or wear gloves,anduseextracautionwhen servicingthem.

• Donot change the enginegovernorset-ting or overspeedthe engine.

• Maintainor replacesafety and instruc-tion labels,as necessary.

AWARNING: This lawn mower is equipped with an internal combustion engine andshould not be used on or near any unimproved forest-covered, brush-covered orgrass-covered land unless the engine's exhaust system is equipped with a sparkarrester meeting applicable local or state laws (if any). If a spark arrester is used, itshould be maintained in effective working order by the operator.In the state of California the above is required by law (Section 4442 of the CaliforniaPublic Resources Code). Other states may have similar laws. Federal laws apply onfederal lands. A spark arrester for the muffler is available through your nearest SearsParts & Repair Center (See the REPAIR PARTS section of this manual).

Read these instructions and this manual in its entirety before you attempt to assemble oroperate your new lawn mower.IMPORTANT: This lawn mower is shipped WITHOUT OIL OR GASOLINE in the engine.

Your new lawn mower has been assembled at the factory with the exception of thoseparts left unassembled for shipping purposes. All parts such as nuts, washers, bolts, etc.,necessary to complete the assembly have been placed in the parts bag. To ensure safeand proper operation of your lawn mower, all parts and hardware you assemble must betightened securely. Use the correct tools as necessary to ensure proper tightness.

TO REMOVE MOWER FROMHandle

1. Remove loose parts included with mower.2. Cut down two end corners of carton

and lay end panel down flat.3. Remove all packing materials except

padding between upper and lowerhandle and padding holding operatorpresence control bar to upper handle. Knob

HOW TO SET UP YOUR MOWERTO UNFOLD HANDLE

IMPORTANT: Unfold handle carefully soas not to pinch or damage control cables.1. Raise lower handle section to operating

position and align hole in handle with oneof three height positioning holes.

2. Insert handle bolt through handle andbracket and secure with knob.

3. Repeat for opposite side of handle.4. Remove protective padding, raise up-

per handle section into place on lowerhandle and tighten both handle knobs.

5. Remove any packing material fromaround control bar.

Your lawn mower handle can be adjustedfor your mowing comfort. Refer to "AD-JUST HANDLE" in the Service and Adjust-ments section of this manual.

Sears rotary walk-behind power lawn mowers conform to the safety standards of theAmerican National Standards Institute and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Com-mission. The blade turns when the engine is running.

Operator presence control lever- mustbe held down to the handle to start the

engine. Release to stop the engine.Drive control bar - used to engagepower-propelled forward motion of mower.Mulcher door - allows conversion to

discharging or bagging operation.

Primer- pumps additional fuel from thecarburetor to the cylinder for use whenstarting a cold engine.Starter handle - used for starting engine.Mulcher plug - located at the rear dis-charge opening. Must be removed when

The engine speed was set at the facto ry for op-timum performance. Speed is not adjustable.

ENGINE ZONE CONTROL

ACAUTION: Federal regulations requirean engine control to be installed on thislawn mower in order to minimize the

risk of blade contact injury. Do not underany circumstances attempt to defeat thefunction of the operator control. The bladeturns when the engine is running.• Your lawn mower is equipped with an

operator presence control bar whichrequires the operator to be positionedbehind the lawn mower handle to start

and operate the lawn mower.

DRIVE CONTROL

• Self-propelling is controlled by hold-ing the operator presence control bardown to the handle and pulling the drivecontrol lever rearward to the handle.The farther toward the handle the lever

is pulled, the faster the unit will travel.• Forward motion will stop when either

the operator presence control bar ordrive control lever are released. To stopforward motion without stopping engine,release the drive control lever only. Holdoperator presence control bar downagainst handle to continue mowingwithout self-propelling.

NOTE: If after releasing the drive control themower will not roll backwards, push the mow-er forward slightly to disengage drive wheels.

DRIVE CONTROL ADJUSTMENT

Over time, the drive control system may be-come "loose", resulting in decreased speed.There is a turnbuckle on the underside of the

drive control housing to increase tension onthe drive cable. Proceed as follows:

1. Turn unit off and disconnect spark plugwire from spark plug.

2. Turn nut on underside of drive control

to increase drive speed.3. Operate mower to test drive speed.

Readjust as required.

, If condition fails to improve after theabove steps (forward speed remainsthe same), your drive belt is worn andshould be replaced.

TO ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT

Raise wheels for low cut and lower wheels

for high cut, adjust cutting height to suityour requirements. Medium position isbest for most lawns.

• To change cutting height, squeeze ad-juster lever toward wheel. Move wheelup or down to suit your requirements. Besure all wheels are in the same setting.

NOTE: Adjuster is properly positioned whenplate tab inserts into hole in lever. Also, 9-position adjusters (if so equipped) allow leverto be positioned between the plate tabs.

1. Lift the rear door of the lawn mowerand place the grass catcher frame sidehooks onto the door pivot pins.

2. The grass catcher is secured to the lawnmower housing when the rear door islowered onto the grass catcher frame.

ACAUTION: Do not run your lawn mowerwithout mulcher plug or approved grasscatcher in place. Never attempt to op-erate the lawn mower with the rear door

removed or propped open.

Your lawnmower is shipped without oil inthe engine. For type and grade of oil touse, see "ENGINE" in the Maintenancesection of this manual.A CAUTION: DO NOT overfill engine withoil, or it will smoke heavily from the muffleron startup.1. Be sure lawnmower is level.2. Remove oil dipstick from oil fill spout.3. You receive a container of oil with the

unit. Slowly pour the entire containerdown the oil fill spout into the engine.

NOTE: Initial oil fill requires only 18 oz.due to residual oil in engine from themanufacturers 100% quality testing. Whenchanging oil you may need 20 oz.4. Insert and tighten dipstick.IMPORTANT:• Check oil level before each use. Add oil

if needed. Fill to full line on dipstick.• Change the oil after every 25 hours of

operation or each season. You mayneed to change the oil more oftenunder dusty, dirty conditions. See "TOCHANGE ENGINE Oil" in the Mainte-nance section of this manual.

ATTACH FUEL CAP CARTRIDGE

Your mower is equipped with a specialFRESH START TM fuel cap and continuousfuel preserver cartridge. See the infor-mation and instructions packed with theFRESH START TM cartridge.1. Snap cartridge into bottom of fuel cap.NOTE: Do not remove the silver foil seal on

the side of cartridge that snaps into fuel cap.

2. Grasp the white peel tab and pull toremove the entire seal.

3. Screw fuel cap onto fuel tank after fill-ing tank with gasoline.

Replace cartridge when empty (aboutonce a season). Check preserver levelvisually.A DANGER: Cartridge fluid is HARMFULOR FATAL IF SWALLOWED. Avoid contact

to eyes, skin, or clothing. Do not takeinternally. Do not inhale fluid vapor. Keepout of reach of children. If swallowed, calla physician immediately.

ADD GASOLINE

• Fill fuel tank to bottom of tank filler neck.Do not overfill. Use fresh, clean, regularunleaded gasoline with a minimum of87 octane. Do not mix oil with gasoline.Purchase fuel in quantities that can beused within 30 days to assure fuel fresh-ness.

A CAUTION: Wipe off any spilled oil orfuel. Do not store, spill or use gasolinenear an open flame._1_CAUTION: Alcohol blended fuels

(called gasohol or using ethanol or metha-nol) can attract moisture which leads toseparation and formation of acids duringstorage. Acidic gas can damage the fuelsystem of an engine while in storage. Toavoid engine problems, the fuel systemshould be emptied before storage of 30days or longer. Empty the gas tank, startthe engine and let it run until the fuel linesand carburetor are empty. Use fresh fuelnext season. See Storage Instructions foradditional information. Never use engineor carburetor cleaner products in the fueltank or permanent damage may occur.

TO STOP ENGINE

• To stop engine, release operator pres-ence control bar.

TO START ENGINE

NOTE: Due to protective coatings on theengine, a small amount of smoke may bepresent during the initial use of the prod-uct and should be considered normal.

1. To start a cold engine, push primerthree (3) times before trying to start.Use a firm push. This step is notusually necessary when starting anengine which has already run for a fewminutes.

2. Hold operator presence control bardown to the handle and pull starterhandle quickly. Do not allow starterrope to snap back.

NOTE: In cooler weather it may benecessary to repeat priming steps. Inwarmer weather over priming may causeflooding and engine will not start. If youdo flood engine, wait a few minutes beforeattempting to start and do not repeatpriming steps.

MOWING TIPS

A CAUTION: Do not use de-thatcher

blade attachments on your mower. Suchattachments are hazardous, will damageyour mower and could void your warranty.

• Under certain conditions, such as verytall grass, it may be necessary to raisethe height of cut to reduce pushing effortand to keep from overloading the engineand leaving clumps of grass clippings.It may also be necessary to reduceground speed and/or run the lawnmower over the area a second time.

• For extremely heavy cutting, reduce thewidth of cut by overlapping previouslycut path and mow slowly.

• For better grass bagging and most cut-ting conditions, the engine speed shouldbe set in the FAST position.

• Pores in cloth grass catchers can be-come filled with dirt and dust with use

and catchers will collect less grass. Toprevent this, regularly hose catcher offwith water and let dry before using.

• Keep top of engine around starter clearand clean of grass clippings and chaff.This will help engine air flow and extendengine life.

MULCHING MOWING TIPS

IMPORTANT: For best performance,keep mower housing free of built-upgrass and trash. See "CLEANING" in theMaintenance section of this manual.

• The special mulching blade will recut thegrass clippings many times and reducethem in size so that as they fall onto thelawn they will disperse into the grassand not be noticed. Also, the mulchedgrass will biodegrade quickly to providenutrients for the lawn. Always mulchwith your highest engine (blade) speedas this will provide the best recutting ac-tion of the blades.

• Avoid cutting your lawn when it is wet.Wet grass tends to form clumps andinterferes with the mulching action. Thebest time to mow your lawn is the earlyafternoon. At this time the grass hasdried, yet the newly cut area will not beexposed to direct sunlight.

• For best results, adjust the lawn mowercutting height so that the lawn mowercuts off only the top one-third of thegrass blades. If the lawn is overgrown itwill be necessary to raise the height ofcut to reduce pushing effort and to keepfrom overloading the engine and leavingclumps of mulched grass. For extremelyheavy grass, reduce your width of cutby overlapping previously cut path andmow slowly.

• Certain types of grass and grassconditions may require that an area bemulched a second time to completelyhide the clippings. When doing a sec-ond cut, mow across (perpendicular) tothe first cut path.

• Change your cutting pattern from weekto week. Mow north to south one week

TIRES

DRIVE WHEELS

Check rear drive wheels each time youmow to be sure they move freely. Thewheels not turning freely means trash,grass cuttings, etc., may be inside thedrive wheel and dust cover area and mustbe cleaned out to free drive wheels.

BLADE CARE

5. Remove blade and attaching hardware(bolt, lock washer, hardened washer).

NOTE: Remove the blade adapter andcheck the key inside hub of blade adapter.The key must be in good condition to workproperly. Replace adapter if damaged.TO REPLACE BLADE

1. Position the blade adapter on the en-gine crankshaft. Be sure key in adapterand crankshaft keyway are aligned.

2. Position blade on the blade adapteraligning the two (2) holes in the bladewith the raised lugs on the adapter.

3. Be sure the trailing edge of blade (oppo-site sharp edge) is up toward the engine. •

4. Install the blade bolt with the lockwasher and hardened washer intoblade adapter and crankshaft.

5. Use block of wood between blade andlawn mower housing and tighten theblade bolt, turning clockwise.

• The recommended tightening torque is35-40 ft. Ibs. / 47-54 N-m.

IMPORTANT: Blade bolt is heat treated.

TO SHARPEN BLADE

NOTE: We do not recommend sharpeningblade - but if you do, be sure the blade is bal-anced. Care should be taken to keep the bladebalanced. An unbalanced blade will causeeventual damage to lawn mower or engine.• The blade can be sharpened with a file

or on a grinding wheel. Do not attemptto sharpen while on the mower.

• To check blade balance, drive a nail intoa beam or wall. Leave about one inch ofthe straight nail exposed. Place centerhole of blade over the head of the nail.If blade is balanced, it should remain ina horizontal position. If either end of theblade moves downward, sharpen theheavy end until the blade is balanced.

GRASS CATCHER

• The grass catcher may be hosed withwater, but must be dry when used.

• Check your grass catcher often for dam-age or deterioration. Through normaluse it will wear. If catcher needs replac-ing, replace only with approved replace-ment catcher shown in the Repair Partssection of this manual. Give the lawn

mower model number when ordering.

GEAR CASE

• To keep your drive system workingproperly, the gear case and area aroundthe drive should be kept clean and freeof trash build-up. Clean under the drivecover twice a season.The gear case is filled with lubricant to theproper level at the factory. The only timethe lubricant needs attention is if servicehas been performed on the gear case.

TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL

NOTE: Before tipping lawn mower to drainoil, empty fuel tank by running engine untilfuel tank is empty.1. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with plug.

2. Remove engine oil cap; lay aside on aclean surface.

3. Tip lawn mower on its side as shownand drain oil into a suitable container.Rock lawn mower back and forth to re-

move any oil trapped inside of engine.

4. Wipe off any spilled oil from lawnmower or side of engine.

5. Slowly pour oil down the oil fill spout,stopping every few ounces to checkthe oil level with the dipstick.

6. Stop adding oil when you reach theFULL mark on the dipstick. Wait aminute to allow oil to settle.

7. Continue adding small amounts of oil,rechecking the dipstick until oil levelsettles at FULL. DO NOT overfill, orengine will smoke heavily from themuffler on startup.

8. Always be sure to retighten oil dipstickbefore starting engine.

9. Reconnect spark plug wire to plug.

AIR FILTER

Your engine will not run properly and maybe damaged by using a dirty air filter.Replace the air filter cartridge every 100hours of operation or every season, which-ever occurs first. Service air cleaner more

often under dusty conditions.

TO CLEAN AIR FILTER

1. Loosen screw and tilt cover to remove.

2. Carefully remove cartridge.3. Clean by gently tapping on a flat sur-_;i face. If very dirty, replace cartridge.

CAUTION: Petroleum solvents, such askerosene, are not to be used to clean car-tridge. They may cause deterioration of thecartridge. Do not oil cartridge. Do not usepressurized air to clean or dry cartridge.4. Install cartridge, then replace cover

making sure the tabs are aligned withthe slots in the back plate. Fastenscrew securely.

Inspect and replace corroded muffler as itcould create a fire hazard and/or damage.

CLEANING

IMPORTANT: For best performance, keepmower housing free of built-up grass andtrash. Clean the underside of your mowerafter each use.

J_CAUTION: Disconnect spark plug wirefrom spark plug and place wire where itcannot come in contact with plug.• Clean underside of mower by scraping

to remove build-up of grass and trash.• Clean engine often to keep trash from

accumulating. A clogged engine runshotter and shortens engine life.

Keep finished surfaces and wheels freeof all gasoline, oil, etc.We do not recommend using a gardenhose to clean lawn mower unless theelectrical system, muffler, air filter andcarburetor are covered to keep waterout. Water in engine can result in short-ened engine life.

CLEAN UNDER DRIVE COVERClean under drive cover at least twice a sea-

son. Scrape underside of cover with puttyknife or similar tool to remove any build-upof trash or grass on underside of drive cover.

J:;LWARNING: To avoid serious injury, before performing any service or adjustments:1. Release control bar and stop engine.2. Make sure the blade and all moving parts have completely stopped.3. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot come in

contact with plug.

LAWN MOWER

REAR DEFLECTOR

The rear deflector, attached between the rearwheels of your mower, is provided to minimizethe possibility that objects will be thrown outof the rear of the mower into the operatormowing position. If the deflector becomesdamaged, it should be replaced.

TO REMOVE DRIVE BELT

1. Disconnect spark plug wire from sparkplug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with plug.

2. Remove screws retaining drive cover(not shown); and remove drive coverfrom lawn mower housing.

3. Remove drive cable from anchor, thendetach it and return spring from idlerarm assembly.

4. Remove idler arm assembly fromhousing by removing hex nut; thenremove drive belt from drive pulley, beltkeepers and idler arm assembly.

5. Turn lawn mower on its side. Make

5. Reattach idler arm assembly with hexnut previously removed.

6. Turn lawn mower on its side. Makesure air filter and carburetor are up.

7. Reattach debris shield to housing withtab of debris shield in housing hole.

8. Position blade on the blade adapteraligning the two (2) holes in the bladewith the raised lugs on the adapter.

9. Be sure the trailing edge of blade (op-posite sharp edge) is up toward theengine as shown.

10. Install the blade bolt with the lockwasher and hardened washer into

blade adapter and crankshaft.11. Use block of wood between blade and

lawn mower housing and tighten theblade bolt, turning clockwise.

• The recommended tightening torque is35-40 ft. Ibs.

TO ADJUST HANDLE

The handle on your lawn mower has three(3) height positions - adjust to height thatsuits you.1. Remove knob and carriage bolt on one

side of the lower handle.

2. While holding handle assembly, removeknob and carriage bolt from opposite side,align hole in handle with desired hole inhandle bracket and reassemble bolt andknob and tighten securely.

3. Align opposite side of handle withsame positioning hole and secure withbolt and knob.

ENGINEENGINE SPEED

Your engine speed has been factory set.Do not attempt to increase engine speedor it may result in personal injury. If youbelieve that the engine is running too fastor too slow, take your lawn mower to aSears or other qualified service center forrepair and adjustment.

CARBURETOR

Your carburetor is not adjustable. If yourengine does not operate properly due tosuspected carburetor problems, take yourlawn mower to a Sears or other qualifiedservice center for repair or adjustment.IMPORTANT: Never tamper with theengine governor, which is factory setfor proper engine speed. Overspeedingthe engine above the factory high speedsetting can be dangerous. If you thinkthe engine-governed high speed needsadjusting, contact a Sears or otherqualified service center, which has properequipment and experience to make anynecessary adjustments.

Immediately prepare your lawn mower forstorage at the end of the season or if theunit will not be used for 30 days or more.

LAWN MOWERWhen lawn mower is to be stored for a

You can fold your mower handle for storage.1. Loosen the two (2) handle knobs on

sides of the upper handle and allowhandle to fold down to the rear.

2. Remove the two (2) handle knobs andcarriage bolts on sides of the lower handleand pivot entire handle assembly forwardand allow it to rest on mower.

3. Reinstall knobs and carriage bolts tolower handle or handle brackets forsafe keeping.

• When setting up your handle from thestorage position, the lower handle willrequire manually locking into the mow-ing position.

IMPORTANT: When folding the handle forstorage or transportation, be sure to foldthe handle as shown or you may damagethe control cables.

FUEL SYSTEM

IMPORTANT: It is important to preventgum deposits from forming in essentialfuel system parts such as carburetor, fuelfilter, fuel hose or tank during storage.

Alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol orusing ethanol or methanol) can attractmoisture which leads to separation andformation of acids during storage. Acidicgas can damage the fuel system of anengine while in storage.• Empty the fuel tank by starting the en-

gine and letting it run until the fuel linesand carburetor are empty.

• Never use engine or carburetor cleanerproducts in the fuel tank or permanentdamage may occur.

• Use fresh fuel next season.

NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptablealternative in minimizing the formation of fuelgum deposits during storage. Add stabilizerto gasoline in fuel tank or storage container.Always follow the mix ratio found on stabilizercontainer. Run engine at least 10 minutesafter adding stabilizer to allow the stabilizer toreach the carburetor. Do not empty the gastank and carburetor if using fuel stabilizer.

NOTE: FRESH START TM fuel cap and car-tridge system automatically drips concentrat-ed fuel preserver into your fuel tank and is anacceptable alte rnative to adding fuel stabilizer.

ENGINE OIL

Drain oil (with engine warm) and replacewith clean engine oil. (See "ENGINE" inthe Maintenance section of this manual).

CYLINDER

1. Remove spark plug.2. Pour one ounce of oil through spark

plug hole into cylinder.3. Pull starter handle slowly a few times

to distribute oil.

4. Replace with new spark plug.

OTHER

• Do not store gasoline from one seasonto another.

• Replace your gasoline can if your canstarts to rust. Rust and/or dirt in yourgasoline will cause problems.

• If possible, store your unit indoors andcover it to protect it from dust and dirt.

• Cover your unit with a suitable protectivecover that does not retain moisture. Do

not use plastic. Plastic cannot breathe,which allows condensation to form and

will cause your unit to rust.IMPORTANT: Never cover mower while

engine and exhaust areas are still warm._CAUTION: Never store the lawn mower

with gasoline in the tank inside a buildingwhere fumes may reach an open flameor spark. Allow the engine to cool before

I. OPERACION• Antes de empezar, debe familiarizarse

completamente con los controles y el usecorrecto de la maquina. Para esto, debe leery comprender todas las instrucciones queaparecen en la maquina yen los manualesde operaci6n.

• No ponga las manes o los pies cerca odebajo de las partes rotatorias. Mantengasesiempre lejos de la abertura de la descarga.

• Permita que solamente las personas re-sponsables que esten familiarizadas con lasinstrucciones operen la m_tquina.

• Despeje el Area de objetos tales como piedras,juguetes, alambres, huesos, palos, etc. que pu-eden ser recogidos y lanzados por las cuchillas.

• Asegt3rese que el _trea no se hallen per-sonas, antes de segar. Pare la m_.quina sialguien entra en el Area.

• No opere la maquina sin zapatos o con sanda-lias abiertas. P6ngase siempre zapatos s61idos.

• No tire de la segadora hacia atr_ts a menosque sea absolutamente necesario. Miresiempre hacia abajo y hacia detr_ts antes ymientras que se mueve hacia atr_.s.

• Nunca dirigir el material descargado hacialas personas. Evitar descargar materialcontra paredes o barreras. El material puederetornar al operador. Para la cuchilla cuandose pasa por superficies de grava.

• No opere la segadora sin los respectivosresguardos, las placas, el recogedor decesped u otros aditamentos dise ados parasu protecci6n y seguridad.

• Refi@ase alas instrucciones del fabricantepara el funcionamiento e instalaci6n deaccesorios. Use t3nicamente accesoriosaprobados por el fabricante.

• Detenga la cuchilla o las cuchillas cuando crucepor calzadas, calles o caminos de grava.

• Parar el motor cada vez que se abandona elaparato, antes de limpiar la segadora o deremover residuos del tubo.

• Apagar el motor y esperar hasta que lascuchillas esten completamente paradasantes de remover el receptor de hierba.

• Segar solamente con luz del dia o con unabuena luz artificial.

• No opere la m_.quina bajo la influencia delalcohol o de las drogas.

• Nunca opere la maquina cuando la hierbaeste mojada. Asegt3rese siempre de tenerbuena tracci6n en sus pies; mantenga elmango firmemente y camine; nunca corra.

• Desconectar el mecanismo de propulsi6naut6noma o el embrague de transmisi6n enlas segadoras que Io tienen antes de poneren marcha el motor.

• Si el equipo empezara a vibrar de unamanera anormal, pare el motor y revise deinmediato para averiguar la causa. General-mente la vibraci6n suele indicar que existealguna avefia.

• Siempre use galas de seguridad o anteojos conprotecci6n lateral cuando opere la segadora.

II. OPERAOION SOBRE LAS CUESTASLos accidentes ocurren con m_.s frecuencia enlas cuestas. Estos accidentes ocurren debido aresbaladas o caidas, las cuales pueden resultaren graves lesiones. Operar la recortadora encuestas requiere mayor concentraci6n. Si sesiente inseguro en una cuesta, no la recorte.HAOER:• Puede recortar a traves de la superficie de

la cuesta, nunca hacia arriba y hacia abajo.Proceda con extrema precauci6n cuandocambie de direcci6n en las cuestas.

• Renueva todos los objetos extra_os, talescomo guijarros, ramas, etc.

• Debe prestar atenci6n a hoyos, baches oprotuberancias. Recuerde que la hierba altapuede esconder obst_.culos.

NO HACER:• No recorte cerca de pendientes, zanjas o

terraplenes. El operador puede perder latracci6n en los pies o el equilibrio.

• No recorte cuestas demasiado inclinadas.• No recorte en hierba mojada. La reducci6n en la

tracci6n de la pisada puede causar resbalones.II1. NINOSSe pueden producir accidentes tr_.gicos si eloperador no presta atenci6n a la presenciade los ni_os. A menudo, los ni_os se sientenatraidos por la m_.quina y por la actividad dela siega. Nunca suponga que los ni_os van apermanecer en el mismo lugar donde los viopor t31timavez.• Mantenga a los ni_os alejados del Area de

la siega y bajo el cuidado estricto de otrapersona adulta responsable.

• Est_ alerta y apague la m_tquina si hay ni_osque entran al Area.

• Antes y cuando este retrocediendo, mirehacia atr_.s y hacia abajo para verificar si hayni_os peque_os.

• Nunca permita que los nifios operen la m_.quina.• Tenga un cuidado extra cuando se acerque

a esquinas donde no hay visibilidad, a losarbustos, _.rboles u otros objetos que puedeninterferir con su linea de visi6n.

IV. MANEJO SEGURO DE GASOLINAUsar mucha atenci6n cuando se maneja gaso-lina. La gasolina es extremamente inflamable ylos vapores son explosivos.• Apagar todos los cigarrillos, cigarros, pipas y

otras fuentes de ignici6n.• Usar solo un contenedor apropiado.• Nunca quitar el tap6n de la gasolina o aSadir

carburante con el motor en marcha. Esperarqueel motor se enffie antes de repostar la gasolina.

• Nunca repostar la m_tquina al interiorde un local.• Nunca guardar la m_tquina o el contenedor de

gasolina donde hay una llama abierta, chispa oluz piloto como una caldera u otros dispositivos.

• Nunca Ilenar contenedores en un vehiculo, enun cami6n o caravana con un forro de pl_.stico.Colocar siempre los contenedores en el suelolejos de su vehiculo antes de Ilenar.

• Quitar equipos que funcionan con gasolinadel cami6n o caravana y repostar en el suelo.Si esto no es posible, repostar dicho equipocon un contenedor port_.til, m_.s bien que conuna tobera de gasolina.

• Mantener la tobera en contacto con el bordodel dep6sito de carburante o de la aperturadel contenedor siempre hasta terminar elabastecimiento. No usar un dispositivo decierre-apertura de la tobera.

• Si el carburante cae en la ropa que se Ileva,cambi_trsela inmediatamente.

• Nunca Ilenar en exceso el dep6sito decarburante. Colocar el tap6n de la gasolina yapretar de modo seguro.

V. SERVICIO• Nunca haga funcionar una m_tquina dentro

de un Area cerrada.• Nunca haga ajustes o reparaciones mientras

el motor este en marcha. Desconecte el cablede la bujia, y mantengalo a cierta distancia de_sta para prevenir un arranque accidental.

• Mantenga las tuercas y los pernos, espe-cialmente los pernos del accesorio de lacuchilla, apretados y mantenga el equipo enbuenas condiciones.

• Nunca manipule de forma indebida losdispositivos de seguridad. Controle regular-mente su funcionamiento correcto.

• Mantenga la m_tquina libre de hierba, hojas uotras acumulaciones de desperdicio. Limpie losderrames de aceite o combustible. Permita quela m_.quina se enfrie antes de almacenarla.

• Pare e inspeccione el equipo si le pega a unobjeto. Rep_.relo, si es necesario, antes dehacerlo arrancar.

• En ningt3n caso hay que regular la altura delas ruedas mientras el motor est,. en marcha.

• Los componentes del receptor de la hierbavan sujetos a desgaste, da_os y deterioro, quepueden exponer las partes en movimiento opermitir que objetos sean disparados. Controlarfrecuentemente y cuando sea necesario susti-tuir con partes aconsejadas por el fabricante.

• Las cuchillas de la segadora est_.n afiladas ypueden cortar. Cubrir las hojas o Ilevar guantes,y utilizar precauciones especiales cuando seefectt3a mantenimiento sobre las mismas.

• No cambie el ajuste del regulador del motorni exceda su velocidad.

• Mantener o sustituir las etiquetas de seguridade instrucciones, cuando sea necesario.

_ADVERTENCIA: Este segadora viene equipado con un motor de combusti6n interna y no sedebe usar sobre, o cerca, de un terreno no desarrollado cubierto de bosques, de arbustos o dec_sped, o menos que el sistema de escape del motor venga equipado con un amortiguador dechispas que cumpla con las leyes locales o estatales (si existen). Si se usa un amortiguador dechispas, el operador debe mantenerlo en condiciones de trabajo eficientes.En el estado de California, la ley exige Io anterior (Secci6n 4442 del "California Public Re-sources Code"). Otros estados pueden contar con otras leyes parecidas. Las leyes federalesse aplican en la tierras federales. Su centro de Servicio m_ts cercano tiene disponible amor-tiguadores de chispas para el silenciador (Vea la secci6n de PARTES DE REPUESTO en elmanual Ingles del due_o).

Estos accesorios estaban disponibles cuando se produjo la segadora. No son facilitados junto alcortacesped. Tambien est_.n disponibles en la mayoria de las tiendas de Sears yen los centrosde servicio. Algunos de estos accesorios tal vez no se apliquen a su segadora.

Lea estas instrucciones y el manual completamente antes de tratar de montar u operar su segadora nueva.IMPORTANTE: Este cortacesped viene SIN ACEITE O GASOLINA en el motor.Su segadora nueva ha sido montada en la f_.brica con la excepci6n de aquellas partes que sedejaron sin montar por razones de envio. Todas las partes como las tuercas, las arandelas, los per-nos, etc., que son necesarias para completar el montaje han sido colocadas en la bolsa de partes.Para asegurarse que su segadora funcione en forma segura y adecuada, todas las partes y losarticulos de ferreteria que se monten tienen que ser apretados seguramente. PARA REMOVER LA SEGADORA DELA CAJA DE CARTON1. Remueva las partes sueltas que se incluyen

con la segadora.2. Cortelasdosesquinasdelosextremosdelacaja

de cart6n y tienda el panel del extremo piano.3. Remueva todo el material de empaque, ex-

cepto la cuSa entre el mango superior y elinferior, y la cuSa que sujeta la barra de loscontrol que exige la presencia del operadorjunto con el mango superior.

4. Haga rodar la segadora hacia afuera de lacaja de cart6n y revisela cuidadosamentepara verificar si todavia quedan partessueltas adicionales.

COMO PREPARAR SU SEGADORAPARA DESDOBLAR EL MANGOIMPORTANTE: Despliegue el mango conmucho cuidado para no pellizcar o daSar loscables de control.1. Levante la secci6n del mango inferior hasta

la posici6n de operaci6n y alinee el agujeroen _ste con uno de los tres agujeros paradeterminar la altura en el puntal del mango.

2. Inserte el perno del mango a traves de estey del puntal y asegt3relo con la manilla.

3. Repita el procedimiento para el ladoopuesto del mango.

4. Levante la secci6n del mango superiorhasta la posici6n de operaci6n, remueva lacuSa protectora y apriete las manillas delmango en forma segura.

5. Remueva el material de empaque de alred-edor de la barra de control.

NTROL DE ZONA DEL MOTORPRECAUCION: Las regulaciones federales

exigen que se instale un control para el motoren esta segadora para reducir a un minimo elriesgo de lesionarse debido al contacto con lacuchilla. Por ningt3n motivo trate de eliminarla funci6n del control del operador. La cuchillagira cuando el motor est,. funcionando.• Su segadora viene equipada con una barra

de controles que exigen la presencia deloperador, Io que requiere que el operadoreste detr_.s del mango de la segadora parahacerla arrancar y operarla.

CONTROL DE LA IMPULSION• La autopropulsi6n se controla manteniendo

la palanca de mando operador presenteabajo hacia el mango y tirando la palanca deaccionamiento atr_.s hacia el mango. Cuantom_ts lejos se tira la palanca hacia el mango,m_.s r_tpida ira la unidad.

• El movimiento hacia adelante se detienecuando sea la palanca de mando operadorpresente o la palanca de accionamiento sesueltan. Para detener el movimiento haciaadelante sin apagar el motor, soltar s61ola palanca de accionamiento. Mantener lapalanca de mando operador presente abajocontra el mango para continuar a cortar sinautopropulsi6n.

AVISO" Si despu_s haber desenganchado de lapalanca de control, la segadora no roda haciaatr_ts, empuje la segadora un poco hacia adelantepara desenganchar las ruedas de la impulsi6n.AJUSTE DEL MANDOOcasionalmente, el sistema de mando puede"aflojarse", provocando una disminuci6n de lavelocidad. Hay un torniquete en la parte traserade la sede del mando para apretar la tensi6ndel cable. Proceder de la siguiente manera:1. Apagar la unidad y desconectar el cable de

bujia de la bujia.2. Vuelta el tuerca en la parte inferior del

mando de transmisi6n para aumentar lavelocidad del mecanismo.

3. Opere la segadora para probar la velocidaddel mecanismo. Reajuste segt3n Io requerido.

4. Si las condiciones no mejoran despu_sde los pasos descritos (la velocidad haciaadelante queda la misma), la correa detransmisi6n est,. desgastada y tiene que ser Ganchosustituida. 26 bastidor del recogedor

PARA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE CORTELevante las ruedas para el corte bajo y baje lasruedas para el corte alto., ajuste la altura decorte para que se acomode a sus requisites. Laposici6n del medio es la mejor para la mayoriade los c_spedes.• Para cambiar la altura de corte, empuje la

palanca del ajustador hacia la rueda. Mueva larueda hacia arriba o hacia abajo de mode quese acomode a sus requisites. Asegt3rese quetodas las ruedas queden igualmente ajustadas.

AVlSO: El ajustador esta correctamente colocadocuando las orejas de la placa est_.n insertadas enel agujero del mango. Tambi_n, los ajustes de 9posiciones (si equipado) permiten que el mangopueda ser movido entre las orejas de la placa.

troles que exigen la presencia del operador.PARA HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTORAVlSO: Debido a las capas protectoras del mo-tor, una cantidad pequeSa de humo puede es-tar presente durante el uso inicial del productoy se debe considerar normal.1. Para hacer arrancar un motor fifo, empuje

el cebador tres (3) veces antes de tratarlo.Empuje firmemente. Este paso normal-mente no es necesario cuando se hacearrancar un motor que ya ha estado funcio-nando por unos cuantos minutos.

2. Sujete la barra de controles que exigen lapresencia del operador abajo en el mangoy tire el mango del arrancador r_.pidamente.No permita que el cord6n arrancador sedevuelva abruptamente.28

AVlSO: En climas m_.s frios puede que seanecesario repetir los pasos del cebado. En cli-mas m_ts calurosos el cebar demasiado puedeproducir el ahogo y el motor no va a arrancar.Si se ahoga el motor espere unos cuantosminutos antes de tratar de hacerlo arrancar yno repita los pasos del cebado.

CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR_I_PRECAUCl6N: No utilizar dispositivos anti-paja de la hoja en la segadora ya que estosaccesorios son peligrosos, pueden daSar susegadora y anular su garantia.• Bajo ciertas condiciones, tal como cesped

muy alto, puede ser necesario el elevar laaltura del corte para reducir el esfuerzonecesario para empujar la segadora y paraevitar sobrecargar el motor, dejando mon-tones de recortes de c_sped. Puede que seanecesario reducir la velocidad del recorridoy/o haga funcionar la segadora sobre el _.reapor segunda vez.

• Para un corte muy pesado, reduzca el anchodel corte pasando parcialmente por encimadel lugar anteriormente cortado y sieguelentamente.

• Para un mejor ensacado del cesped y para lamayoria de las condiciones de corte, la velo-cidad del motor debe ajustarse a la posici6nde R,_,PIDO.

• Los poros en los recogedores de cesped detela pueden Ilenarse con mugre y polvo conel uso y los recogedores recaudar_.n menosc_sped. Para evitar _ste, rocie el recogedorcon la manguera de agua regularmente yd_jelo secarse antes de usarlo.

• Mantenga la parte superior del motor, alred-edor del arrancador, despejada y sin recortesde cesped y paja. Esto ayudar_, el flujo delaire del motor y extender,, su duraci6n.

• Evite cortar el cesped cuando est_ mojado.El c_sped mojado tiende a formar montonese interfiere con la acci6n de acolchado.La mejor hora para segar el cesped estemprano en la tarde. A esa hora _ste se hasecado y el _.rea reci_n cortada no quedar_.expuesta al sol directo.

• Para obtener los mejores resultados, ajustela altura del corte de la segadora de modoque esta corte solamente el tercio superiorde las hojas de cesped. En el caso de que elcesped haya crecido demasiado, puede sernecesario el elevar la altura del corte parareducir el esfuerzo necesario para empujar lasegadora y para evitar sobrecargar el motor,dejando montones de recortes de cesped.Para un c_sped muy pesado, reduzca el an-cho del corte pasando por encima clel lugaranteriormente cortado y siegue lentamente.

• Ciertos tipos de cesped y sus condicionespueden exigir que un _.rea tenga que seracolchada por segunda vez para escondercompletamente los recortes. Cuando se hagael segundo corte, siegue atravesado (enforma perpendicular) a la pasada del primercorte.

1. Desconecte el alambre de la bujia y p6n-galo en donde no pueda entrar en contactocon esta.

2. Haga descansar la segadora en su lado.Asegt3rese que el filtro de aire y que elcarburador queden mirando hacia arriba.

3. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchillay la caja de la segadora para evitar que lacuchilla gire cuando se le quite el perno.

en el sentido contrario en que giran lasmanillas del reloj.

5. Remueva la cuchilla y los articulos de fer-reteria adjuntadores (el perno, la arandelade seguridad y la arandela endurecida).

AVISO" Remueva el adaptador de la cuchilla yrevise el cubo interior de la ranura del adaptadorde la cuchilla. La ranura tiene que estar en buenascondiciones para que funcione en forma adec-uada. Cambie el adaptador si est,. daSado.PARA CAMBIAR LA CUCHILLA

1. Ponga el adaptador de la cuchilla en elciguehal del motor. Asegt3rese que la ranuradel adaptador y que el chavetero del cigue-5al est_n alineados.

2. Ponga la cuchilla en el adaptador de estaalineando los dos (2) agujeros en la cuchillacon las salientes elevadas en el adaptador.

3. Asegt3rese de que el borde de salida dela cuchilla (opuesto al borde afilado) estehacia arriba hacia el motor.

4. Instale el perno de la cuchilla con la aran-dela de seguridad y la arandela endurecidaen el adaptador de la cuchilla y el cigueSal.

5. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchillay la caja de la segadora y apriete el pernode la cuchilla gir_.ndolo en el sentido en quegiran las manillas del reloj.

• La torsi6n para apretar recomendada es de35 - 40 pies libras.

IMPORTANTE: El perno de la cuchilla estratado a calo. Si es necesario sustituir lospernos, sustituirlos s61o con pernos aprobadosmostrados en la secci6n Partes de Reparaci6nde este manual.

Ponga el agujero central de lacuchilla sobre la cabeza del clavo. Si lacuchilla ester balanceada debe permaneceren la posici6n horizontal. Si cualquiera delos extremos de la cuchilla se mueve haciaabajo, afile el extremo pesado hasta que _staquede balanceada.

RECOGEDOR DE ClaSPED• El recogedor de cesped puede ser rociado

con el agua de la manguera pero tiene queestar seco cuando se vaya a usar.

• Revise su recogedor de c_sped a menudopara verificar si est,. dahado o deteriorado.Se va a desgastar con el uso normal. Si senecesita cambiar el recogedor, c_.mbielosolamente por uno que sea aprobado por elfabricante. D_ el nt3mero del modelo de lasegadora cuando Io ordene.

CAJA DE ENGRANAJES• Para mantener el sistema de impulsi6n

funcionando en forma adecuada, la cajade engranajes y el Area alrededor de laimpulsi6n tienen que mantenerse limpias ysin acumulaci6n de basura. Limpie debajode la cubierta de la impulsi6n dos veces portemporada.

• La caja de engranajes se Ilena con lubricantehasta el nivel adecuado en la f_.brica. Lat3nica vez que el lubricante necesita atenci6nes cuando se le ha prestado servicio a lacaja de engranajes.

• Si se necesita lubricante, use solamenteGrasa Texaco Starplex Premium 1, Parte No.750369. No use substitutos.

4. Quitar el conjunto de la palanca detransmisi6n del bastidor quitando la tuercahexagonal; luego quitar la correa de mandode la polea de mando, los dispositivos defijaci6n de la correa y el conjunto de lapalanca de transmisi6n.

7. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchillay la caja de la segadora para evitar que lacuchilla gire cuando se le quite el perno.

AVlSO: Proteja sus manos con guantes y/oenvuelva la cuchilla con una tela gruesa.8. Remueva el perno de la cuchilla.9. Quitar la cuchilla y todos los dispositivos de

fijaci6n (perno, arandela de freno, aran-dela templada), adaptador de la cuchillay pantalla de los escombros. Noten quela pantalla de los escombros tiene unalengQeta que se introduce en un orificio delbastidor.Quitar la correa de polea del motor; eliminarla correa vieja.

PARA CAMBIAR LA CORREA DE IMPULSION1. Colocar la nueva correa de polea del motor.2. Colocar la otra extremidad de la nueva

correa de mando a traves del orificio en elbastidor.

3. Volver a colocar el cortacesped en posici6nvertical.

4. Instalar la nueva correa de mando en elconjunto de la palanca de transmisi6n,luego alrededor de la polea de mando. Ase-gurarse de que la correa se halle al interiorde los dispositivos de fijaci6n de la correa.

5. Volver a colocar la conjunto de la palancade transmisi6n con el tuerca hexagonalprecedentemente quitados.

6. Haga descansar la segadora en su lado.Aseg_rese que el filtro de aire y que elcarburador queden mirando hacia arriba.

7. Fijar otra vez la pantalla de los escombrosal bastidor con la leng0eta de la pantallade los escombros se halle en el orificio delbastidor.

8. Ponga la cuchilla en el adaptador de _staalineando los dos (2) agujeros en la cuchillacon las salientes elevadas en el adaptador.

9. Aseg_rese de que el borde de salida dela cuchilla (opuesto al borde afilado) est_hacia arriba hacia el motor.

10. Instale el perno de la cuchilla con la aran-dela de seguridad y la arandela endurecidaen el adaptador de la cuchilla y el cigueSal.

11. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchillay la caja de la segadora y apriete el pernode la cuchilla gir_.ndolo en el sentido en quegiran las manillas del reloj.

• La torsi6n para apretar recomendada es de35 - 40 pies libras.

IMPORTANTE: El perno de la cuchilla estratado a calo. Si es necesario sustituir lospernos, sustituirlos s61o con pernos aprobadosmostrados en la secci6n Partes de Reparaci6nde este manual.12. Volver a colocar el cortac_sped en posici6n

vertical.13. Volver a colocar el cable del mando y el re-

sorte de vuelta en el conjunto de la palancade transmisi6n, luego fijar el cable de mandoal ancla.

14. Volver a colocar la tapa del mando con lostornillos precedentemente quitados.

15. Conectar el hilo de la bujia de encendido ala bujia de encendido.

PARA AJUSTAR EL MANGOEl mango de su segadora cuenta con tres (3)posiciones de altura - aj_stelo a la altura que leacomode.1. Remueva la manilla y el perno portador en

un lado del mango inferior.

2. AI mismo tiempo que sujeta el conjunto delmango, remueva la manilla y el perno porta-dor del lado opuesto, alinee el agujero en elmango con el agujero deseado en el puntaldel mango y vuelva a montar el perno y lamanilla y aprietelos en forma segura.

3. Alinee el lado opuesto del mango con elagujero de la misma posici6n y asegQreloscon el perno y la manilla.

VELOCIDAD DEL MOTORLa velocidad del motor ha sido ajustada enla f_.brica. No trate de aumentar la velocidaddel motor pues se pueden producir lesionespersonales. Si cree que el motor est,. funcio-nando demasiado r_.pido o demasiado lento,Ileve su segadora a mas con su centro deservicio Sears o con un otro centro de serviciocualificado.CARBURADORSu carburador no es ajustable. Si su motor noest,. funcionando en forma adecuada debidoa problemas que se sospecha vienen del carbu-rador, Ileve su segadora a contacto con su cen-tro de servicio Sears o con un otro centro deservicio cualificado para repararla y/o ajustarla.IMPORTANTE: Nunca manipule el reguladordel motor, el que ha sido ajustado en la f_.bricapara la velocidad del motor adecuada. Puedeser peligroso hacer funcionar el motor a unavelocidad por sobre el ajuste de alta velocidadde la f_.brica. Si cree que la velocidad alta regu-lada del motor necesita ajuste, contacto con sucentro de servicio Sears o con un otro centrode servicio cualificado, el que cuenta con elequipo adecuado y la experiencia para hacerlos ajustes necesarios.

Inmediatamente prepare su segadora para elalmacenamiento al final de cada temporada o sila unidad no se va a usar por 30 dias o m_.s.SEGADORACuando se va a guardar la segadora por ciertoperiodo de tiempo, limpiela cuidadosamente,remueva toda la mugre, la grasa, las hojas, etc.Gu_.rdela en un Area limpia y seca.1. Limpie toda la segadora (Vea"LIMPIEZA"

en la secci6n de Mantenimiento de estemanual).

2. Lubriquela seg0n se muestra en la secci6nde Mantenimiento de este manual.

3. Aseg0rese de que todas las tuercas yclavijas y todos los pernos y tornillos est_napretados en forma segura. Inspeccionelas partes que se mueven para verificar siest_.n daSadas, quebradas o desgastadas.C_.mbielas si es necesario.

4. Retoque todas las superficies que est_noxidadas o con la pintura picada; use unalija antes de pintar.

MANGOPuede doblar el mango de su segadora para elalmacenamiento.1. Suelte las dos (2) manillas del mango en

cada lado del mango superior y permita queel mango se doble hacia detras.

2. Remueva las dos (2) manillas y los pernosde cada lado del mango inferior y pivote elconjunto entero del mango hacia delante ypermita le que se descanse sobre la sega-dora.

3. Vuelva a poner las manillas y los pernos almango inferior o a los puntales del mangopara la seguridad.

• Cuando prepare su mango a partir de laposici6n de almacenamiento, el mango infe-rior nesecitara cerrarlo manualmente para laposici6n de sega.

IMPORTANTE: Cuando doble el mango para elalmacenamiento o el transporte, asegOrese queIo doble segOn se muestra o purde daSar loscables de control.

MOTORSISTEMA DE COMBUSTIBLEIMPORTANTE: Es importante evitar que seformen dep6sitos de goma en partes funda-mentales del sistema de combustible talescomo el carburador, el filtro del combustible,la manguera del combustible o en el estanquedurante el almacenamiento. Los combustiblesmezclados con alcohol (conocido como gasoholo que tienen etanol o metanol) pueden atraerhumedad, Io que conduce a la separacion y a laformacion de acidos durante el almacenamien-to. La gasolina acidica puede daSar el sistemade combustible de un motor durante el periodode almacenamiento.• Vaciar el dep6sito del carburante poniendo

en marcha el motor y dej_.ndolo funcionarhasta que el carburante termine y elcarburador est_ vacio.

• Nunca use los productos para limpieza delcarburador o del motor en el estanque decombustible pues se pueden producir daSospermanentes.

• Use combustible nuevo la pr6xima tempo-rada.

AVlSO: El estabilizador de combustible es unaalternativa aceptable para reducir a un minimo

SEGAR Agregue estabilizador a la gasolina en elestanque de combustible o en el envase para elalmacenamiento. Siempre siga la proporci6n demezcla que se encuentra en el envase del esta-bilizador. del agujero de la bujfa en el cilindro.3. Tire la manilla de arranque lentamente unas

cuantas veces para distribuir el aceite.4. Cambie por una bujfa nueva.

OTROS• No guarde la gasolina de una temporada a la

otra.• Cambie el envase de la gasolina si se emp-

ieza a oxidar. La oxidaci6n y/o la mugre ensu gasolina producir_.n problemas.

• Si es posible, guarde su unidad en un recintocerrado y c_brala para protegerla contra elpolvo y la mugre.

• Cubra su unidad con un forro protectoradecuado que no retenga la humedad. Nouse pl_.stico. El pl_.stico no puede respirar, Ioque permite la formaci6n de condensaci6n,Io que producir_, la oxidaci6n de su unidad.

IMPORTANTE: Nunca cubra la segadora mien-tras el motor y las areas de escape to daviaestan calientes.
