At the time of print, the lifetime energy generated by the pan- els was at 114 megawatt hours. That energy is enough to offset 10,000 gallons of gas or charge 4,730 electric cars. It is enough to power to light up the Christmas tree at Rockefel- ler Center for 3,379 nights. Aside from the environmental savings, the solar panels in the parking lot are providing some much needed shade to a few of those lucky guests to Splash City Waterpark. Clean Energy Fun Facts Solar panels first appeared on the market in 1956. One kilowatt is equivalent to 1,000 watts. 170 thousand billion watts from the sun hits Earth every moment.
