M OV I E LO C AT I O N S M A P
Based on the powerfully moving true story of the
challenging relationship between “Old” Tom and
“Young” Tommy Morris, Tommy’s Honour recounts
the life of the dynamic father-son team who ushered
in the modern game of golf.
As their fame grew, Tom and Tommy, considered by
many to be Scotland’s Golf royalty, were touched by
drama and personal tragedy. At first matching his
father’s success, Tommy’s talent and fame grew to
outshine his father’s accomplishments and respect
as founder of the Open Championship in 1860 with a
series of his own triumphs.
But in contrast to Tommy’s public persona, his personal
turmoil ultimately led him to rebel against both the
aristocracy who gave him opportunity, and the parents
who shunned his passionate relationship with his wife.
Directed by Jason Connery, and starring Peter Mullan
(War Horse), Jack Lowden (’71), Ophelia Lovibond
(Guardians of the Galaxy) and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park),
this poignant drama serves as both a deeply affecting
tribute to a true sporting pioneer, and a testament to
the unique bond between father and son.
JASON CONNERY, D IRECTOR
“ It is a story that is truly close to my heart as I grew up with my father on a golf course. It is an extraordinary and intimate tale of love and family at the beginning of the great game of golf ”
Tommy’s Honour — The Movie
East Lothian and Fife — the places behind the movie
Just a half-hour drive east of Edinburgh, East Lothian
is known as Scotland’s Golf Coast. With 22 golf courses
within its stunning coastline and rolling countryside,
this is a golfing paradise. Discover one of the oldest
courses in the world at Musselburgh Links or the
location of the first Ryder Cup played in Scotland in
1973, at Muirfield – a course that inspired Jack Nicklaus
to construct Muirfield Village in Ohio.
Having all begun in 1672, East Lothian has created
some of the most celebrated golf courses in the world
and established the perfect golf destination.
The Kingdom of Fife is unrivalled in terms of golfing
prestige, with St Andrews renowned throughout the
world as the Home of Golf. Home to the British Golf
Museum, 11 golf courses and countless historic golf
shops, St Andrews dominates the golfing scene in the
region. But Fife’s golfing story doesn’t end there. It is
has plenty top-class golfing experiences – from peering
through a submarine periscope on Elie’s 1st tee to
learning about the Scots who introduced golf to the
US at Dunfermline.
A trip to Fife is to follow in the footsteps of the
greatest golfers in the game – and a chance to create
your own golfing history.
Tom Morris Senior and Tom Morris Junior, better
known as Old Tom and Young Tom, are the most
renowned golfing father and son duo in the sport’s
illustrious history and both played a crucial role in the
development of the modern game as we know it today.
Born in 1821, Old Tom is known as the Grandfather of
Golf, playing a prominent role in the creation of The
Open, the world’s oldest professional golf tournament,
which he won four times in his career. He was arguably
more prolific without a club in his hands, credited with
designing or influencing around 60 courses throughout
the UK & Ireland, many of which are still considered
among the world’s best. Perhaps his greatest legacy is
the Old Course at St Andrews, where he created the
famous 1st and 18th holes – the most famous starting
and finishing holes in golf.
Young Tom Morris was regarded as golf’s first superstar,
winning The Open on four consecutive occasions by
the age of 21 – a feat that has never been repeated
to this day. His exciting playing style brought new
spectators to the game, with thousands travelling from
all over the country to watch his challenge matches.
Young Tom died aged just 24 in 1875 months after
the death of his wife and baby during child birth.
Although the official cause of death was a pulmonary
haemorrhage, some say he died of a broken heart.
