  • 1. Move like JaggerTextual Analysis The establishing shot is a long shot of an entrance to a theatre; This shot helps to establishthe location of the video. This location conotates performance, recreational dramatics andother aspects of the entertainment industry. The video is in black and white, this is amemorable feature the audience will be eager to watch on and see why this is. We see thecamera cut to different shots of people preparing a stage. Theres writing placed in thecentre of the screen which informs the audience that this is currently taking place in 2011.We then see a close up of a sign saying auditions, the close up tells the audience that this isan important part of the narrative of the video.Intertextuality is heavily embodied in this video. The fact that auditions are being stagedwhich are similar to the popular talent TV shows X factor or Britans got talent links to thisconcept of intertextuality the benefit of this is that music videos are meant to be amarketing tool. The fact that the audience can now link this video to a highly popular TVshow makes it more engaging but also interesting.The shots are also accompanied by the synchronous diegetic sound of the people working inthe background to add the effects of a busy environment within the theatre, this build theaudiences anticipation as they want to know what all the buildings for.The mise-en-scene along with the title suggest that the videos narrative and promo is goingto be based on The Rolling Stones front man Mike Jagger and the 1960s we see clothingsimilar to what was worn in the 1960s which also emphasizes this.We then see females getting dressed and attended to by making artist wearing 1960scloths. They also have the 1960s free atmosphere with some of the ladies messing about.This develops the narrative keeping the audience engaged.We then see a close up of Mike Jagger when he was young, this type of shot creates anintense mood and provides interaction between the audience and the viewer, the shotshows very little background, and concentrates on his face, and so is very intimate shot. 2. camera is then played with, using the zoom lens in order to get the required framing. Whilethis is taking pace mike Jagger is being interviewed by someone (a synchronous non diegticsound). Showing that mike Jagger is the main priority in the video.We then see cuts of different woman, even though the women are part of the narrativethey are still a key selling point in the video, the different close ups on certain features andangles emphasise this. Theres a medium shot of a female is dressed in clothes which relateto the 1960s she is holding a sign which signals to start the performance.The music starts with an up tempo beat which reflects on the dancers moves and facialexpressions. The atmosphere changes and the music video has now changed from black andwhite to colour. This change shows there is going to a change in atmosphere.We then see comedic imitations of jagger and his famous quirky dance moves this is alsoshown in the mise-en scene of the clothes choice and wigs. This also indicates that thenarrative for the video is based on Jagger and his famous presence on the music industrythis is the unique selling point (USP) and the videos promo. This videos target market wouldbe Jaggar, Maroon and Christina Aguilera fans and those who enjoy this genre of music.We see comedic impersonations of Jagger which elaborates on the narrative of auditions.Which relate to the lyric and whole content of the songs which is Can you move like Jaggarthe images have a coherent andThroughout the video you have different shots selling the artist which is the lead singer ofMaroon 5 with close-ups being dominate this is essential as the audience feel they have apersonal connection with the artist. The lead singer is topless and is moving in a similar wayto how Jagger would have back in his days. Although we still see woman being objectified inthe video, The shirtless Maroon 5 front man dances throughout the video, displaying hisMick Jagger-inspired moves, moving topless like Jagger this would interest his lady fans alsobeing a selling point in the video.
