ABOUT THE COLLEGE

Mount Carmel College, Bangalore, envisions a life-oriented education that empowers the students through a humanizing and liberative process, to be agents of transformation and

development at different levels of life. Enabled and empowered, they respond pro – actively to concerns and conflicts inherent in today’s reality, especially those of women

and persons who are unable to exercise their freedom to be human and work for the integrity of creation. The thrust is in the light of a “Civilization of love”, the Kingdom of

God, as envisaged and promoted by the Foundress, Mother Teresa of St. Rose of Lima.

Department of Humanities organizes “MANAN” a National level Inter-collegiate fest with

multiple events since 2015. MANAN brings the youth together to showcase their talents in various aspects of student life: be it art, academics, etc. It is a cultural

extravaganza, with various colleges taking part in areas of art, music, dance,

drama. Every year there is a historical/ cultural theme which the association decides on, based on which the events are held. Students from various cultural

backgrounds come together and interact in this two-day event, and it is a delight

to see them participate with enthusiasm. It encompasses all this knowledge and helps students manifest it in different methods such as panel discussions, paper presentations,

competitions, etc.

MANAN 2016

“MANAN 2016” is an annual all-India, inter-collegiate humanities fest of Mount Carmel

College representing a variety of academic and extra-curricular excellence displayed by

students. It is a cultural bonanza, with students from various backgrounds coming together

and participating with great enthusiasm. The fest was held on the 18th and 19th of

August, 2016. This year’s theme is “Vistara” inspired by the concept Explore, Expand,

Experience

The fest played host to 20 colleges with more than 228 humanities students witnessing

various events, ranging from “Personality” to “Treasure Hunt” to “Poster making”. Hence,

the fest was a great opportunity to integrate students’ energy, dynamic potential and

achievement. This year, MANAN – 2016 received overwhelming response in all its events

and was a magnificent success.

The humanities fest MANAN 2016, organized by the Humanities Association, MCC,

Bangalore, on the 18th and 19th of August, set out to Explore, Experience and Expand,

with the title theme itself being VISTARA. The two day fest was a flamboyant showcase

of multitudes of talent and vigor from students across Bangalore colleges, which kept our

Carmelites on their toes with plenty of sessions to organize, one after the other.

Our Chief Guest for the fest was Mrs. Shinie Antony, an Editor, author, and co-founder of

Bangalore Literature Festival and an Ex-Carmelite herself. With the formal welcome

address by our chief guest and other dignitaries, the event was officially inaugurated with

the lighting of the lamp. After which, we experienced the true spark and impulse of the

moment with a vivacious performance by the India Dance Association.
