Dear Faith Family of Our Lady of Grace,

Praised be Jesus Christ…now and forever!

Celebra on of Mother’s Day in our country is another beau ful opportunity for us, Catholic Chris ans, to honor our mothers and say thank you for their endless love. I would like to remind all of us the fi h commandment, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you (may be well and) live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you” (Exodus 20:12). To the sisters, mothers and wives who make up our community! Please accept our sincerest gree ngs on this Mother’s Day holiday! May you be abundantly blessed by God in your difficult and wonderful job of a mother, and in serving your children and grandchildren! Being a mother is not only a privilege, but it is a great responsi-bility because God entrusted you with a special posi on of influ-encing the world of your child. May the Lord be your helper, the source of wisdom and spiritual strength in this noble ministry! Thank you to all those who enrolled their mothers in our Mother’s Day Novena and if you have a chance stop inside the church to see some of the photos of our mothers.

We con nue honoring Mary during this month by crowning her this Sunday at all the Masses. Throughout history, Catholics have long honored the Blessed Virgin Mary during the month of May. To symbolize her significance in the Church and in our lives, the “May Crowning” is set up to display her queenship as the Mother of Jesus. We typically create a dedicated area to place a picture or statue of Mary, which is surrounded by flowers and candles. This tribute remains up throughout the en re month in order to memorialize the importance of our Mother Mary in Church and in our personal lives.

We have long honored Mary in May with special observances, tradi ons, and devo ons. This devo on led her to be known as the “Queen of May.” May being observed as a dedica on is linked back to early Greece when ancient Greeks dedicated the month to Artemis, the goddess of fecundity. In medieval mes, winter ended at the start of May because it was considered a

me of new growth and beginnings. During this me, the “Tricesimum” (“30-Day Devo on to Mary” or “Lady Month”) period began, when special devo ons to the Mother of God started in May. It spread from Italy all around the world. Parish-es tradi onally have a daily recita on of the Rosary during this month. The structure or image of Mary is taken back into the church during the final devo on on the last day of May, which is followed by a procession. We can relate the month of May to that tradi onal hymn sung to Mary during the May Crowning “Bring Flowers of the Rarest.”

O Mary, we crown thee with blossoms today! Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May. O Mary, we crown thee with blossoms today, Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May. Bring flowers of the rarest, bring blossoms the fairest, from garden and woodland and hillside and dale; our full hearts are swelling, our glad voices telling, the praise of the loveliest flower of the vale! Refrain Their lady they name thee, Their mistress proclaims thee, Ah, grant that thy children on earth be as true as long as the bowers are radiant with flowers, as long as the azure shall keep its bright hue Refrain Sing gaily in chorus; the bright angels o'er us re-echo the strains we begin upon earth; their harps are repea ng, the notes of our gree ng, for Mary herself is the cause of our mirth Refrain

Please plan on joining us for the upcoming Fa ma Mass on May 13th at 6:30pm with Mass, rosary and procession. We will be honoring Our Lady’s appari ons at Fa ma every 13th of the month un l October commemora ng the Miracle of the Sun. Invite family, friends, and neighbors to this wonderful oppor-tunity. OUR LADY OF FATIMA GAVE US 3 TASKS TO BRING PEACE TO OUR WORLD: 1. Be sorry for what we have done wrong; put God first in our lives. 2. Pray the Rosary each day for peace. 3. Make sacrifices for sinners so they will know and love God.

O Mary, our hope, and our joy, help us to pray with you for peace in the world. Unite all children with your Immaculate Heart. Make us strong in praying for those who have no one to pray for them. Keep us always close to the Sacred Heart of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

In Jesus and Mary,

Fr. Marinello Saguin
