Protection Time

The clothingshould then be allowed to dry for 2‐4 hours beforebeing worn. Its potency for at least 2 weeksOil of Citronella: 30‐60 minutes.


Peadiatric Use

DEET: The American Academy of Pediatrics currentlyrecommends that children older than 2 months canrecommends that children older than 2 months cansafely use DEET up to 30% concentration.

Toxicity DEET: Neutotoxicity ‐ if used at higher concentration

PMD: The synthesized version of oil of lemon eucalyptusshows no adverse effects except for eye irritation

IR3535: not harmful when ingested, inhaled, or used onskin. Eye irritation could occur if the chemical enters apersons eyes.


Toxicity

Permethrin: Likely to be Carcinogenic to Humans” bythe oral route Very high doses will have tangiblethe oral route. Very high doses will have tangibleneurotoxic effects on mammals and birds, includinghuman beings.“

Oil of Citronella Oil of Citronella has been usedextensively since 1948 without any reports of adverseeffects of concern.


Some Other Important Points

DEET Contact with plastics (eg watch crystalsDEET ‐ Contact with plastics (eg, watch crystals,eyeglass frames), rayon, spandex, and painted orvarnished surfaces should be avoided becauseDEET can damage these surfaces.

Picaridin: The repellent is cosmetically pleasantp y pand does not harm plastics or fabric.

Synthetic ‐Mosquito Repellent

Synthetic repellents tend to be more effective /Synthetic repellents tend to be more effective /longer. Lasting than "natural" repellents. Essential oilrepellents can be short‐lived in their effectiveness,since essential oils can evaporate completely.

In comparative studies, IR3535 was as effective orp ,better than DEET in protection against mosquitoes.
