Toxicity DEET: Neutotoxicity ‐ if used at higher concentration

i idi h li i d d il bl hi dPicaridin: The limited data available on this productsuggests that it has low potential for toxicity.

PMD: The synthesized version of oil of lemon eucalyptusshows no adverse effects except for eye irritation

Some Other Important Points

DEET Contact with plastics (eg watch crystalsDEET ‐ Contact with plastics (eg, watch crystals, eyeglass frames), rayon, spandex, and painted orvarnished surfaces should be avoided becauseDEET can damage these surfaces.

Picaridin: The repellent is cosmetically pleasantp y pand does not harm plastics or fabric.

Synthetic ‐Mosquito Repellent

Synthetic repellents tend to be more effective /Synthetic repellents tend to be more effective /longer. Lasting than "natural" repellents. Essential oilrepellents can be short‐lived in their effectiveness, since essential oils can evaporate completely.

In comparative studies, IR3535 was as effective orp ,better than DEET in protection against mosquitoes.

A test of various insect repellents by an independentA test of various insect repellents by an independentconsumer organization found that repellentscontaining DEET or picaridin are more effective than

ll h " l“ drepellents with "natural“ active ingredients.

‐ Use only small amounts of repellent onchildren.

‐ Do not apply repellents to the hands ofyoung children because this may result inyou g c d e because s ay esuaccidental eye contact or ingestion.
