Welcome to the Winter 2018 Mosaic newsletterWe don’t usually send out a Winter newsletter, but this year we really wanted to express our appreciation to our supporters following a great festive season before memories of 2017 fade.

Our residential weekend was in November with 15 brilliant children and young people making great friends and supporting each other over an emotional and fun-packed weekend.

We held a Christmas party at the start of December with around 40 children and their families coming to meet friends and receive gifts from Father Christmas. The party was funded by 4Com who provided an entertainer and a photo booth which was great fun. Our children were also very lucky to receive presents from Wave 105 Mission Christmas and Sunninghill School in Dorchester.

Our first Christmas Concert was held with the male voice choir, Bourne2Sing in Ashley Cross where we had many mince pies donated by M&S and Iceland and a beautiful evening in St Peter’s church, so I hope you enjoy all our winter news.

New website for 2018 Keep your eyes out in the coming weeks for a fresh new Mosaic website for 2018.

Our friends and supporters at Coleman Insurance Brokers have donated their time and expertise in developing a great new website which should be simple and effective in showing children, parents and professionals how Mosaic can offer support to families in Dorset.

New date for Mosaic Conference 2018Please note our conference date for 2018 has moved. Unfortunately we had to cancel the February date, the new date is Tuesday 6th November 2018.

We will be hosting another full day of speakers and workshops with the focus on supporting children and young people through bereavement.

Family Christmas Party 2017Mosaic held our Family Christmas party in December – with around 40 children, which was funded and jointly planned with ourselves and 4Com, a Dorset based communications company, who provided an entertainer and a photo booth which was a great success with the families and funny props.

Father Christmas also made an appearance and distributed gifts donated by 4Com, Wave 105 Mission Christmas and Sunninghill School in Dorchester.

Sunninghill Prep teams up with Mosaic this ChristmasSunninghill Prep School in Dorchester parents, pupils and staff provided beautifully wrapped gifts for children and young people who are being supported by Mosaic.

John Thorpe, Headmaster at Sunninghill Prep said

“The team at Mosaic are doing really important work and we felt that by supporting this wonderful charity, the Sunninghill pupils are thinking about other children and young people, especially at Christmas time. It doesn’t matter what your background is, where you grew up, or even which school you go to, sadly you never know when you might need the love and support of a charity like Mosaic.”

7Supporting bereaved children & young people throughout Dorset

Kim’s First CampOne of our regular volunteers Kim, helped at her first residential weekend in November 2017. “I have been volunteering for Mosaic for 2 years, mostly in the office doing all sorts of jobs ranging from sorting out files, updating computer records and helping with preparation for their Camp Weekends.

I did my first camp volunteer weekend in November 2017 and it was an amazing experience. Firstly I have to say I was totally worn out by all the youngsters energy, it was scary! I helped with the arts/crafts activities which involved organising the work area as well as providing hands on help for painting memory stones.

The stories these young people have and the open way they shared them with me is the one part of the weekend I will carry with me for a long long time. The idea behind the weekends is that these children can get together with others that have had a loved one die. They get to share good memories with each other. They get to quietly remember their loved ones during the candle ceremony. This touched me deeply and I feel very privileged to have shared this weekend with such a fantastic bunch of individuals big and small.

What’s it like being a volunteer – priceless to me. It brings me great joy to see so many young people being helped by Mosaic. They say the proof is in the pudding and volunteering gives me that precious insight.”
