Pastor’s Message: From the Mouth of Lyons
Praise the Lord! To the church of Rome the Apostle Paul closed his letter with these words, “ Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I rejoice because of you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.” (Romans 16:19) This too is my prayer for you – the Morris Chapel family of God and you personally – that we may live faithfully according to God’s call and instruction. We hold on to this simple truth of the Lord, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11).
Last week, I taught a group of church leaders from our Yadkin Valley District on making decision based on values – “a person's or group’s principles or standards of behavior; one's judgment of what is important in life”. A well-defined set of values enables us to say “YES” to the important things we believe in as well as allows us to say “NO” to the less important, thus guiding us to decide where to spend our precious time. There are many “good things” in which to give our time and attention, but true fulfillment of our life’s purpose comes when we are engaged in “God’s things”.
“If you do not define who you are, others will tell you who they want you to be.”
Papaw Frank was a member of another church I served years ago. One afternoon while standing in his driveway, he told about his “values”. He said, “Every morning before I get out of bed I recite three things: The Lord’s Prayer, The Ten Commandments, and the twelve points of the Boy Scout Law.” This had been his morning ritual since the morning he got his draft notice for World War II. It was important to him to define who he was and the ideals for which he stood. His language reinforced his values which guided his behavior. His life was aligned along according to his values. Papaw Frank was beloved and respected his church as a man of consistent principles.
Do you have a well-defined list of values at your core? If you cannot quickly name them off the top of your head, I encourage you to takes some time make such a list. Then, allow those your words and actions to be filtered through those values to empower you to live a defined life that achieves the important God-things placed before you.
Live for what is important!

NOTES FOR WESLEY / WALL FOR WESLEY
One of our youth, Wesley Fishel, was involved in a serious bull riding accident
on Feb. 4th. He remains at Baptist Hospital (Sticht Center) as he continues
his journey of healing and rehabilitation.
As his church family, we would like to show love and support for Wesley, his
parents, Neil & Karen, and his sisters, Clara and Melanie. One opportunity to
do so is to write a note for Wesley. He has made tremendous strides and can
now read these letters on his own. Our ministry staff visits the hospital daily and would be glad to deliver these
notes directly to the family. Cards or letters of encouragement for the family are also welcome.
A prayer board has been placed outside of the church office. Please take a moment to write a note for Wesley
and/or the family and place it on the prayer board. Small slips of paper and pens are provided near the board.
Please help us surround Wesley and his family with love, prayers, courage and strength
during the time of his recovery.

March 7, 2017 6:00pm - A Call
to Prayer and Self Denial Program
and Meal in the Family Life Center.
A Call to Prayer and Self Denial is an annual
observance during which members and friends reflect
on the gospel of Christ, pray together and make an
offering to missions with women, children and youth in
response to God’s love and grace.
Morris Chapel United Methodist Women alternate
years. This year, the Wesley Circle will host the meal.
Guest speaker will be Mrs. Verda Hennis.
The Wesley Circle U.M.W members are asking the most
needed supplies be donated to the Food Pantry (toilet
tissue, paper towels, soaps, detergents, hair shampoo).
Thank you for all the cards, food , and prayers during the passing of my sister Linda McLain. This church means a lot to me.

Don’t forget your college student in March. Students have a spring break this month and some will travel with friends so pray for their safety. This also marks the halfway point of spring semester. Many will be contemplating whether to take summer classes, find a job or take a break. Be in prayer for this as well. St. Patrick’s Day is this month. Don’t forget to send a card, text or call them. Continue sending good wishes and prayers their way. College Student Sponsor Committee.
