Principal’s MessageMr Peter Edmonds

First of all, congratulations on your graduation!

Hopefully you will look back fondly on your years at our school. From my experience, the primary years are when you develop life-long friendships. Some of the students in your class will be your buddies forever.

I have really enjoyed getting to know you over the past couple of years. We’ve had some chats, had some fun and I have appreciated the opportunity to share a part of your journey.

It is now time to enter the next chapter of your life.

There will be truly fantastic times ahead but there will also be some challenges. Always remember to make good choices - it is much easier that way.

You have been a great group and we are all very proud of your achievements.

So, good luck, always remember to follow your dreams, be the best you can be and hopefully there will always be a special place in your heart for Morpeth Public School.

P.S. You’re always welcome to call in and say hello!

Year 6 Teacher’s MessageMr Mike Hamilton

For me the highlight of the year was the performance of our whole year 6 class at the University of Newcastle Science and Engineering Challenge day held at Maitland at the end of Term 3.

You worked in small teams at a range of complex challenges involving finding practical solutions to engineering problems. You were in competition against many other Year 6 students from public and private schools across Maitland. You won.

I believe this is evidence of the quality of the

educational experience you have enjoyed at Morpeth Public School.

The skills and attitudes needed for life and work in this 21st Century are not just academic grades, test scores and factual knowledge. They are communication skills and the ability to cooperate and work together to solve problems. They are the emotional strength to stay calm and focused when some around you are off task.

I am sure that as you grow and mature you will appreciate the value of the things you have experienced here. Keep on learning.

Message from School Leaders Luke Knight and Rachael Sinclair.

We have been very proud to be the school leaders at Morpeth Public School this year.

It has been an honour to represent the school which is such an important part of this community.

This year the school has had a busy time with sporting events, excursions, special events both here and in other places as well as some interesting visitors, music and fun.

Kate Ramage, Luke Knight, Rachael Sinclair and Cameron Klumpp with Principal Mr Edmonds.

Our SchoolLeaders

The visit from the Burwood Girls’ High School band was a fascinating look at how the many instruments blend together to make music.

We all remember the three days at the Great Aussie Bush Camp, the cold nights sleeping in layers of clothes and the busy days filled with exciting activities. Who doesn’t remember the thrilling giant swing, the fun raft building and lifting each other up over that two metre high wall.

Representing the school at the Anzac Day ceremony in Morpeth was a high point of our Leadership. It’s such an important time for all Australians and we will always remember that Anzac Day.

It was also a huge honour to be able to attend the National Young Leaders Day in Sydney earlier this year. We were able to listen to many famous speakers including internet guru, Brett Lee, rugby league legend, Nathan Hindmarsh, Canoeist, Jessica Fox who were sharing their experiences and thoughts with thousands of young leaders from schools from all over NSW.

We learned that Nathan Hindmarsh was faced with difficult choices during his school career that could have affected his sporting life. Even though he chose to attend a school close to his family and not attend a sporting high school, he still created a great sporting career by going that extra mile.

Jessica Fox also showed great determination by achieving an Olympic gold medal in canoeing. Her message was to “never give up and always do your best.”

Our school badge encourages us to “Strive to Excel.” Whatever our backgrounds and chosen paths for our future, our school, Morpeth Public School has been a great start on our journey of life.

AussieBush Camp

Years 5 and 6 enjoyed 3 days of outdoor activities at The Great Aussie Bush Camp this year.

Rafting, fencing, a rope giant swing, canoeing and climbing activities showing the students how to work together as a team. Even the “low ropes” proved to be a challenge and a little help from a friend made all the difference.

A rafting challenge was fun and difficult with several makeshift vessels not quite up to the stresses of nautical navigation across the pond. Many a hand was lost - in a fun way.

“The camp was a new experience for me.”

- Jack Wallis

“Building the raft showed me how important

teamwork is”- Kurt Hollis

CanberraExcursion

In November 2012, both years 5 and 6 travelled to the Nation’s Capital to see Parliament House, The Dinosaur Museum and Questacon as well as The National Art Gallery and the High Court of Australia.

The students were accompanied by Mr Scanlan, Mrs Petersen and Mrs Davies.

The visit to Parliament House showed how the process of governing the nation worked. A tour guide explained the details and the students were able to participate in a mock government.

At the Australian War Memorial, the students saw the many displays, aircraft, vehicles, weapons and uniforms from our military past. Some were able to experience a helicopter simulator and a submarine display.

“Canberra, as the Nation’s Capital gave us the chance to see the very important things that make Australia’s Government work.”

- Rachael Sinclair

“There are so many things to see and discover. Seeing the place of Government and the Memorial was so interesting.

- Hope Johns

Being able to wear the uniforms at the War Memorial and seeing the different displays was interesting.

- Aliah Field

“Seeing Canberra was a real eye-opener.”

- Hope Johns

Anzac Day2013

Anzac Day this year was commemorated with an official march in the streets of Morpeth and a ceremony of remembrance at the school.

It was an honour both as individuals and as part of Morpeth Public School to participate in the event. Some of the students wore the medals their relatives had earned as soldiers fighting in past wars.

School Captain Luke Knight delivered the school’s message to the gathered locals as part of the official proceedings and also shared a brief statement about his own uncle who had served.

Representatives of several local schools, the armed forces and Government address the crowd who gathered at the courthouse in Swan Street to remember the fallen.

Vice Captain, Cameron Klumpp laid the schools wreath at the memorial.

A ceremony was held at the school which was conducted by the School Leaders. During the ceremony, the school observed a minute of silence in the traditional act of remembrance.
