Casablanca is home to the Hassan II Mosque, designed by the French architect Michel Pinseau, situated on a promontory on the Atlantic. Its minaret is the world's tallest at 210 metres. The mosque is also the largest in North Africa, and the third largest in the world. The location of the Mosque was inspired by a Koranic verse declaring the “Throne of God is upon the water”. For a fee visitors are welcome be they muslim or not. This is one of the only mosques in Morocco that non-muslims may enter. There are several tours a day. The tour includes a look at the ablution pools besides the great prayer room
For finishing and religious objects, artisans throughout the kingdom assembled more than 10,000 m2 zellige representing 80 original patterns. Details of tile mosaic
Coverings marble and granite Moroccan origin represent 50 hectares in size with an average thickness of 14cm
There is a series of stairs leading down to the ablution pools. No ramps or elevators give access to this part of the Mosque
