PSALM 119

Page 6: Morning Praise

Antiphon:

Law finds its

fulfilment in love.

Page 7: Morning Praise

Choir 1

Lord, how I love your law!

It is ever in my mind Your command makes me wiser than my foes;

For it is for ever

Page 8: Morning Praise

Choir 2 I have more insight than all who teach me for I ponder you will. I have more understanding than the old

for I keep your precepts.

Page 9: Morning Praise

Choir 1

I turn my feet from evil paths

to obey your word.I have not turned away from your decrees

You yourself have taught me.

Page 10: Morning Praise

Choir 2 Your promise is sweeter to my taste *

than honey in the mouth. I gain understanding from your precepts; * (stand)

I hate the ways of falsehood.

Psalm 74

Page 12: Morning Praise

Choir 1

Why, O God, have you cast us off for ever?

Why blaze with anger against the sheep of your pasture?

Remember your people whom you chose long ago,

The tribe you redeemed to be your own possession,

The mountains of Zion where you made your dwelling.

Page 13: Morning Praise

Choir 2

Turn your steps to these places that are utterly ruined!

The enemy has laid waste the whole of the sanctuary.

Your foes have made uproar in your house of prayer:

they have set up their emblems, their foreign emblems,

High above the entrance of sanctuary.

Page 14: Morning Praise

Choir 1

Their axes have battered the wood of its doors.

They have struck together with hatchet and pickaxe.

O God, they have set your sanctuary on fire:

they have razed and profaned the place where you dwell.

Page 15: Morning Praise

Choir 2

They said in their hearts: “Let us utterly crush them:

let us burn every shrine of God in the land.”

There is no sign from God, nor have we a prophet,

we have no one to tell us how long it will last.

Page 16: Morning Praise

Choir 1How long, O God, is the enemy to scoff? *

Is the foe to insult your name for ever? Why, O Lord, do you hold back your

hand? Why do you keep your right hand

hidden? * (stand)Yet God is our king from time past, the giver of help through all the land.

A TEACHER’S PRAYERLord Jesus, when you lived

and worked and talked amongst men in Palestine, they called you Teacher.

Help me to remember the greatness of the work which has been given to me to do, that I worked with the most precious material in the world, the mind of the youth. Help me always to remember that I am making marks upon that mind which time will never rub out.

A TEACHER’S PRAYER

Page 29: Morning Praise

Give me patience with those who are slow to learn, and even with those who refuse to learn. When I have to exercise discipline, help me to do so in sternness and yet in love. Keep me from the sarcastic and the biting tongue, and help me always to encourage those who are doing their best, even if that best is not very good.

Page 30: Morning Praise

Help me to help my pupils, not only to store things in their memories, but to able to use their minds, and to think for themselves. And amidst all the worries and the frustrations of my job, help me to remember that the future of the nation and of the world is in my hands. Amen.
