Reading AreaMay 20, 2014
INVITATORYLeader: God, come to my assistance. +
All: Lord, make haste to help me.
(Bow your head.)
Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
is now, and will be forever.
Amen. Alleluia
OPENING PRAYER
PSALM 119
Antiphon:
Law finds its
fulfilment in love.
Choir 1
Lord, how I love your law!
It is ever in my mind Your command makes me wiser than my foes;
For it is for ever
Choir 2 I have more insight than all who teach me for I ponder you will. I have more understanding than the old
for I keep your precepts.
Choir 1
I turn my feet from evil paths
to obey your word.I have not turned away from your decrees
You yourself have taught me.
Choir 2 Your promise is sweeter to my taste *
than honey in the mouth. I gain understanding from your precepts; * (stand)
I hate the ways of falsehood.
Psalm 74
Choir 1
Why, O God, have you cast us off for ever?
Why blaze with anger against the sheep of your pasture?
Remember your people whom you chose long ago,
The tribe you redeemed to be your own possession,
The mountains of Zion where you made your dwelling.
Choir 2
Turn your steps to these places that are utterly ruined!
The enemy has laid waste the whole of the sanctuary.
Your foes have made uproar in your house of prayer:
they have set up their emblems, their foreign emblems,
High above the entrance of sanctuary.
Choir 1
Their axes have battered the wood of its doors.
They have struck together with hatchet and pickaxe.
O God, they have set your sanctuary on fire:
they have razed and profaned the place where you dwell.
Choir 2
They said in their hearts: “Let us utterly crush them:
let us burn every shrine of God in the land.”
There is no sign from God, nor have we a prophet,
we have no one to tell us how long it will last.
Choir 1How long, O God, is the enemy to scoff? *
Is the foe to insult your name for ever? Why, O Lord, do you hold back your
hand? Why do you keep your right hand
hidden? * (stand)Yet God is our king from time past, the giver of help through all the land.
Antiphon
Lord, remember your people, whom you chose from the beginning.
GOSPEL READING
John 14: 27-31
We pause for some moments
of reflection
Blessed be God, our Father, who protects His children and never spurns their prayers.
With Mary, our mother let us humbly implore Him:May you be glorified, Lord, for all ages.
Intercessions

needs of all men, fill us with brotherly love.
May you be glorified, Lord, for all ages.
( ) Commit each teacher,
administrator, and school to the care and nurture of God, that God’s plan will be accomplished in bringing out the best in each of the pupils.
May you be glorified, Lord, for all ages.
( )Inspire teachers for creative and fresh ideas and to not allow them settle for mediocrity that they may be able to see the God-given potential in each pupil.

Remember us Lord in your kingdom as we sing
“THE LORD’S PRAYER”
A TEACHER’S PRAYERLord Jesus, when you lived
and worked and talked amongst men in Palestine, they called you Teacher.
Help me to remember the greatness of the work which has been given to me to do, that I worked with the most precious material in the world, the mind of the youth. Help me always to remember that I am making marks upon that mind which time will never rub out.
A TEACHER’S PRAYER
Give me patience with those who are slow to learn, and even with those who refuse to learn. When I have to exercise discipline, help me to do so in sternness and yet in love. Keep me from the sarcastic and the biting tongue, and help me always to encourage those who are doing their best, even if that best is not very good.
Help me to help my pupils, not only to store things in their memories, but to able to use their minds, and to think for themselves. And amidst all the worries and the frustrations of my job, help me to remember that the future of the nation and of the world is in my hands. Amen.
LEADER:
MAY THE LORD BLESS US, MAY HE KEEP US FROM ALL EVIL, AND LEAD US TO LIFE EVERLASTING. AMEN.
THAT IN ALL
THINGS GOD
MAY BE GLORIFIED
