Last week saw a very successful induction ceremony for our new Student
Representative Council. Again congratulations to all representatives and house captains who received badges and seem to be keen to help Morgan Street be a great
school with a proud tradition of student leadership. The Willyama High student leaders set a fine example and were all ex Morgies and proud to be back.
I hope the class page that appear now in our newsletter each week are well received.
I know the students who compiled this weeks page have created a very positive view of how they see their input into our school. I like the idea that they are assessing
their super hero strengths and acknowledging the team work that makes up a school is from Kinder student to Principal. Our team, as in all schools, is very complex but
in my position I get to see all its components and the efforts being made right across the board are second to none. For that I thank not only my staff but my students and
therefore their parents for the high expectations they have for MSPS. Sorting fact from fiction Help your child develop their “dodgy website” antennae when doing homework. Here
are ways your child can tell a good website – or any document – from a bad one.

Our trial of a paperless newsletter progresses. We are currently attending to some
technical issues– so far we have only entered two trial classes (6M and 1K) but we
have about 60% of parents in many other classes having elected to receive the
newsletter to their phone and by emails when the trial moves to a full implementation.
It’s a great result for communication efficiency as well as the environment and school
costs. Don’t worry if you wish to be part of this project and have missed out so far,
when we are ready to go fully over to electronic means, we will ask everybody who
wishes to come on board - including parents who might be absent and grandparents.
SENIOR CHOIR
It was great to see so many keen students auditioning for the senior choir. A very difficult task to choose from so many enthusiastic singers. A criteria was followed during the selection process, which involved:
Pitch, beat and rhythm, manners and attitude, concentration and confidence.
This year more places will be given to Year 6 students since it is their last chance to be in a Morgie choir. During choir time all students from Years 4 and 3 who are not in the choir will be participating in a singing session led by Mr Byrnes.
School Voluntary Contributions are now due.

6E CLASS NEWS
UPER HEROES IN TRAINING
It has been a super start to the year for 6E. Our class motto this year is Super Heroes in Training as Mr
Earl thinks that we all are gifted with our very own super powers!
We have been working hard to meet the high expectations that come with being in Year 6. We are leading
by example, trying to promote the use of our green Morgie bucket hats with everyone in Year 6 wearing
them at school. We have also been busy in the playground at lunchtime showing the new kindergartens and
younger school students how to use the equipment properly and while teaching them new, fun games to
play.
In class, Mr Earl has been teaching us the importance of teamwork and
bucket filling to make our class a super productive and joyful classroom
this year. Mr Earl taught us how geese in the wild fly in a ‘V’ formation to
help get them to their destination quicker. The leader of the ’V’
formation takes the full resistance of the wind, while the others behind
have less work to do. When the leader gets tired another goose takes
his position as leader while it goes to back of the formation to recover.
Geese communicate with each other and encourage the leader of the
formation to keep going and never give up. They also never leave a
member of the flock behind when hurt or tired and will keep them
company until they are ready to fly again. As a class, we are learning the
importance of teamwork and how encouraging others, working and
supporting each other makes the journey of learning in Year 6 a more
enjoyable and positive experience for everyone.
We have also been studying the artworks of Roy Lichtenstein. We watched a video of an auction where
one his original Pop Art artworks sold for over an amazing 40 million dollars! After the video and a lengthy
class debate on whether the art actually was worth it or not, we got busy creating our own onomatopoeia
artworks. Hopefully they will be worth a bit of money in the future!
Last week we started our class swimming lessons and OMG it was FUN!!!!! We learnt the proper freestyle
stroke and kicking technique. The most enjoyable part of the swimming lesson was when we got to have
free time. We only got 5 minutes but it was worth it and most of us played a game of Marco Polo.

“Proud Morgies learning together” What a fabulous start to the school year we have had
as far as the playground goes. Happy, cooperative
students actively involved in games, has resulted in
minimal entries in the playground book.
There are many opportunities for students to be
involved in during the lunch break. Lunchtime activities
include the Running Group, Chess Group, orchestra
and the Rugby League Clinic. There has been new
playground equipment purchased for the 3-6
playground and our K-2 students continue to enjoy
their sandpit and variety of playground games.
Our Year 6 students have begun their roles as
playground monitors. These students spend their
lunchtimes organising games and activities for the
younger students to participate in. The K-2 students
are loving the colouring in, obstacle courses and ball
games provided by our senior students.
Keep up the great work Morgies!
This is the final week of the Reading Challenge and you
should now be heading for your gold target.
Remember that it's not too late to catch up your silver
score this week if you need to in order to reach your
gold target this week. Your gold target will be counted if
you have read the total number of books targeted over
the 3 weeks of the challenge. (ie: If 5 books each week is
your target then 15 books = your gold target.)
You can also continue to collect sponsors throughout the
challenge. If you need any extra forms then see your class
teacher or Mrs Winders.
Your Reading Record and Sponsorship Forms are not due
until Friday of next week.
Reading tip: read a picture book to a younger sibling - this counts for their reading record and yours.
