What’s new at Mopra

ATNF Mopra Operations
• New software routines in ASAP and Livedata to minimise the baseline ripple.
• Characterisation of the antenna & MOPS at 12, 7 and 3 mm.
• Implement GUI interfaces within ASAP for easier quick-look data reduction.
• Implement the option within ASAP to write files in GILDAS format.
• New sky web cam to be installed at the telescope to give more information on how clear the sky is.

Mopra Observing Time
• Mopra APR08 Term• 48 proposals were submitted (33 in APR07)
• 3 proposals with Australian PI (ATNF, UNSW, JCU)• 45 proposals with overseas PI
• 28 proposals with only overseas investigators
• Call for Proposals for the OCT08 Term• For the OCT08 term (summer months) ATNF encourages medium-
large programs (e.g. large-sky maps, surveys, large samples) that require a time allocation of at least two weeks with 12-hour daily observing blocks.
• We expect to be able to offer remote observing on a regular basis starting October semester

Remote Observing - Requirements
• Reasonable size screen resolution (1280x1024 or larger)
• Monitor (TOAD) and Control• Stable connection, i.e.
• No planned outages on your end• No planned outages @ ATNF (check with Balt, Phil or Kate)
• Ideally several computers, but works with just one, too.
Remote Observing – Setting up
• Requires ATNF user account• VNC Sessions, using SSH tunnelling:
• SSH into venice.atnf.csiro.au, using this command:
• ssh [email protected] -L 5910:bigrock.atnf.csiro.au:5910
• Start VNC on your computer and connect to
• localhost:5910
