There will be more splish-splashing at the MoorestownCommunity House pool comingsoon.

Recently, the YMCA of Burling-ton and Camden Counties an-nounced an expanded partner-ship with the Community Housein Moorestown. The Y will bemanaging the use of the pool atthe MCH and providing new pro-grams through the partnership,making the pool more open andaccessible to Moorestown and thesurrounding community.

“(This partnership) benefitsthe community by offering more

programs for the communitymembers and is good for the MCHbecause it provides usage of ourpool. We love the YMCA andthought this would be a greatpartnership for Moorestown,”MCH Executive Director BradKenney said.

“The Y is really just a commu-nity-based organization just likethe MCH … To be able to pull twogreat organizations together is a

great thing to do, and we’re look-ing forward to pulling it off in ayear or so,” Y President and CEOTim Kerrihard said.

The Y has enjoyed a strong his-tory with Moorestown. In 1926, itestablished its “home base” in thebasement of MCH. In 1927, the Yfirst became involved with MCHthrough the International YMCAService Club. The club – nowcalled the Y Service Club – stillmeets weekly at the Mt. Laurel Y.The Community House is alsowhere Adventure Guides got itsstart in the 1920s. Numerousother programs were launchedfrom the Main Street location.

“Before we had a physicalbuilding, the Y was based out of

the MCH for about 15 years. Butwe’ve continued to partner withthem; we’ve always done somethings in their pool when need-ed,” Kerrihard said.

To expand their communitypartnership and use of the MCHpool, Kenney and Kerrihardworked together to create thisnew expanded partnership.

A Moorestown High Schoolsenior has made it her mission togive back to those who haveserved in the military. To do so,she has organized a veterans’benefits and jobs expo.

MHS senior Madeleine Morli-no is leading and organizing,with a group of high school sen-

iors, the Veterans Benefit and JobExpo that will take place on Nov. 9at the Moorestown CommunityHouse, 16 E. Main St., from 9:30a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“Please come out; there are jobs. I know it can be hard to finda job. We put a lot of time and ef-fort getting things together, a lotof major corporations are comingout. The event is for (veterans) sowe’d really like them to come,”Morlino said.

Morlino grew up in a militaryfamily, her father being in the AirForce for about 23 years. Due toher upbringing, as well as her in-

terest in giving back to her coun-try, she became interested in at-tending a military academy. Start-ing her freshman year, she ap-plied for summer programs withmilitary academies all around theUnited States to learn about theschools and experience thelifestyle.

After attending three militaryacademies in the summer as wellas other military-minded organi-zations and activities such asGirls' State and the Washington,

D.C., National Young Americansfor Freedom Conference, Morlinofelt compelled to do something togive back to veterans.

“I came back from the acade-mies and wanted to give back inthe community and help veter-ans. My dad is a veteran, and I re-ally appreciate what they did andhave done, so I wanted to help insome way,” Morlino said.

Morlino started to prepare forthe expo by going to the MCH andspeaking to Executive DirectorBrad Kenney about hosting theevent there. Kenney was very re-ceptive of the idea and gave Mor-lino access to the facility.

She then started reaching outto different companies and organ-izations to get involved with theevent. The organizations are pro-viding a slew of things to veter-

ans, including important infor-mation, free products, discounts,benefits and, of course, jobs.

She also created a steeringgroup of other high school sen-iors that included Heather War-ren, Kelly Li, Jessica Fan,Michael Alschuler, Sierra VanGilst, Devin Lorusso, Sameer Par-ihar, Jackie Yuan and Craig Am-brose.

As a group, they were able todivide the work of food, advertis-ing and communications, among

other jobs to ensure the event issuccessful.

There are two goals of theevent: to provide veterans with

job opportunities, and to provideveterans with benefits and pro-grams available to them.

“My dad, from his experience,he found it difficult to go from

More than 50 Lenola residents,business owners and concernedcitizens came to the Lenola Fire-man’s Memorial Hall lastWednesday night to put on theirthinking caps and become plan-ners and developers to give feed-

back on how they would like tosee the Lenola section of Moorestown in the future.

Moorestown’s Lenola Ad HocCommittee, along with theBurlington County Bridge Com-mission’s Office of Economic De-velopment and Regional Plan-ning, hosted a visioning work-shop at the Lenola Fireman’s Me-morial Hall on Wednesday, Oct.14.

The point of the workshop wasto get feedback from the public onwhat they were concerned withand what they would like withinthe Lenola section of Moorestown.

“Tonight, we’re going to askresidents and visitors to be plan-ners and developers.

Planning is three ingredients:What do you have? What do youwant? And how do you get whatyou want?

“Our job tonight is to tell you a

little bit about what we found, orwhat you have; give you an exer-cise, what do you want; and comeback next time and talk about

how do we get there,” RegionalPlanning Coordinator Ed Foxsaid.

The workshop started with abrief history of Lenola and whathas progressed and what needs tobe worked on. The latter was di-vided into three sections: circula-tion (or traffic), land use (or zon-ing and redevelopment) andstreetscaping (or the look and feelof streets).

CirculationProgress was made when Cam-

den Avenue was restriped in 2013to provide safer on-street parking;council adopted a CompleteStreets Policy for 2015 for alltimes of vehicular, foot and bicy-cle traffic; the township workedwith NJ Transit in 2015 to desig-nate bus stops and bus sheltersalong Camden Avenue; and thetownship started working withthe county in 2015.

Tom Wilkinson’s learn-to-swimprogram, a hands-on group swimprogram focused on teachingproper swimming fundamentalsand stroke mechanics to children3 to 10, will remain intact. Learnmore about the program online atthe website www.twlts.org. The Ywill also rent space to swim teamsthat have relationships withMCH. Rental groups, large andsmall, will be under the supervi-sion of the Y’s certified life-guards.

As temperatures cool down,basketball is heating up.

That’s right, Recreation YouthBasketball registration is open,and this year, there are morechoices than ever. From clinics toleagues to tournaments, Recre-ation Basketball has somethingfor every level of play and experi-ence. Basketball is a great sportthat helps develop both the indi-vidual and the team. A fast-pacedand intricate sport, basketball canbe played one on one or full courtand provides cardio and strengthtraining for everyone.

The Basketball Pre-SeasonClinic kicks off on Oct. 28 forgrades three through nine at theChurch Street Recreation Center.Under the direction of Ted Flick,young people will learn the funda-mentals of basketball and will begiven instruction on refining tech-niques. Flick, who played for theUniversity of Pennsylvania,

brings more than 25 years of play-ing and coaching experience tothe table. Following the pre-sea-son warm-up, the boys and girlsFirst Grade Basketball Clinic will

be offered at the Upper Elemen-tary School on Wednesdays star-

ing Jan. 6. The clinic will focus onfundamentals and will offer inter-clinic scrimmages.

Recreation Basketball Leaguesbegin in second grade this year.The Second Grade BasketballLeague will take place at the UESbetween 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. foran hour and a half each Saturdaystarting on Jan. 9. Teams willpractice with a trainer/referee for30 minutes prior to league gameseach Saturday. Boys and girls willplay separately and will enjoyplaying in an instructional set-ting. Grades three through eightwill continue the RecreationYouth Basketball leagues. Prac-tices begin on Jan. 4 and gameswill begin on Saturday, Jan. 9 toMarch 5. Games will occur on Sat-urdays and times will vary de-pendent upon the league.

The boys High School Recre-ation Basketball League contin-ues to be widely popular for thosehigh school students wishing to

play casually or in addition toother leagues. Games will beplayed between noon and 5 p.m.on Sunday afternoons. Playerswishing to practice informally

may attend open basketball nightsat the Church Street Recreation

Center. Games will begin on Sun-day, Jan. 10 through March 13 atthe Church Street Rec Center.

In addition to the clinics andleagues, the Department of Parksand Recreation is proud to part-ner again with local non-profitLive Civilly to provide the annualTournament of Giving. The firsttournament of the 2015-2016 sea-son will occur on Saturday, Dec. 6.This tournament is open to bas-ketball players of all ages – thirdgrade through adults. The tour-nament will be held in the ChurchStreet Recreation Center and willoffer players a minimum of threegames. Streetscaping

“Imagine what you want (theLenola Business District) to be,your ideal situation,” Fox said.

The first survey addressed thepublic realm, which includedcrosswalks, bicycle travel, side-walks, Camden Avenue pocketpark, street trees, street lighting,

bus travel, automobile parking,vehicular travel, street furniture,corridor gateways and signage.The survey asked about things

such as adding additional struc-tures, the look and feel of thestreets, and speed limit changes.

use, which included Jeff YoungPark and community center; re-development; architectural stan-dards; bulk standards; and otherland uses. The survey askedabout the maintenance and ade-quacy of the park, tax questions

The following reports are onfile with the Moorestown Police

Department:

On Oct. 5, police charged a 23-year-old man of Maple Shadewith two counts of burglary andtwo counts of theft. The man en-tered a home with force on RevereAvenue on Sept. 24 and stole jew-elry, cash and coin. Approximatevalue at this time is $500. On Sept.1, he entered a home with force onHaines Drive and stole an AppleMacBook, which the value is un-known at this time. The suspect’s

bail is set at $5,000 full. He is in-carcerated in the Camden CountyJail where he was served withthese charges.

On Oct. 5, a 41-year-old man of Cherry Hill was arrested forshoplifting. The man selected onepair of men’s black Haggar pantsat Boscov’s Department Store in

the Moorestown Mall, entered thefitting room then exited the fit-

ting room wearing the new pantsand carrying his old ones. Thevalue of the pants was $50. Hewas released on a summons.

On Oct. 5, a victimreported the theft of anecklace valued at$2,500 taken from thebuilding of a businesson the 100 block of Marter Avenue.

On Oct. 6, a 41-year-old male of

Willingboro was arrested for in-vasion of privacy. The man en-tered the women’s restroom at theMoorestown Mall food court. Hewas watching the victim throughthe crack in the stall door whileshe was using the facility. The vic-tim witnessed this and subse-quently the suspect was arrestedand charged.

He was released on a sum-mons.

On Sept. 30, due to a domesticsituation, a 47-year-old man of Moorestown was arrested andcharged with violation of a re-

straining order andcriminal mischief forcausing damage insidea residence. The manwas transported to theBurlington CountyJail on $75,000 bail.

On Oct. 1, a victim reported the

theft of their Apple iPhone val-ued at approximately $500, whichwas left in the restroom at theMoorestown Mall food court.
